Square Enix has announced that they will be releasing the DS title Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift on June 24, 2008 in North America. The follow-up to 2003's Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, A2 is the third title in the "Ivalice Alliance" series. FFTA2 will feature stylus-based control, as well as more jobs than its GBA cousin.
"Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift makes the tactical RPG genre accessible to fans who may be unfamiliar with the grid-based battle system," said Director Yuichi Murasawa. "While maintaining the classic functionality of the much-loved gameplay, this newest release boasts upgrades that enable a more engrossing and fulfilling tactical RPG experience."
Players will follow the story of Luso, a boy who stumbles upon a magical book that transports him to the land of Ivalice. Luso will meet up with characters from Final Fantasy XII, as well, such as Vaan, Penelo, and Al-Cid. FFTA2 will launch at the MSRP of $39.99 and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2008/1086.htmlI'm moderately interested in this title, but I haven't heard good reviews on the original title. Still, I liked what I read about Tactics A2 and will try to pick the title up when it's released. I'm just curious when S-E will announce Final Fantasy IV for the DS.

Yay! Even though I'm not really a fan of the first game, I'm still going to play this one. *_*

I wonder if, in the history of press releases, there's ever been a quote of more obvious, PR fluff-uppery.

I skipped Tactics Advanced just because I never heard much good about it. I’ll probably get this one though, since I can’t foresee ever getting a chance to play Tactics for the PS1, or Tactics on the PSP, so I’ll take this one simply because I actually have the DS, haha...So yeah, good news for me personally.

Eh, took them long enough to announce this.
I enjoyed both FF Tactics incarnations a lot, so I don't see how this will disappoint. After all, it's another game set in Ivalice.

Thats ashame you guys didn't here much good about FFTA, that game was freakin awesome, a really good enjoyable game, solid mechanics, and a nice light story for a change. I really liked it. I'm even more psyched for this since its set in the real Ivalice.

The first game was all right, but the Judge rules were a pain in the arse. Plus I wanted a freaking Dark Knight class, and the Paladin wasn't cutting it for me. Bah, I'll probably get it the sequel, the gameplay was still enjoyable in the first game.

Hahah, fair point. They were more annoying than challenging. They were a nice gimmick at first though, and sometimes you could use them against your opponent.
Epic fail on the paladin class though. Mostly because he looked really poncy XD
And Voyou, you must acquire a ds my friend. The FFXII game was badass too.

My friend has a DS and loved the first Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, so I am definetly going to tell him about this and I am sure that he will be pretty psyched about it. I am amazed that it is being shipped so soon as I didn't know it was even in development. That is quite amazing. Way to go Square Enix.
I am not much into handheld gaming for some odd reason. I never really play "gaming on the go", so I guess the concept has always been lost on me. However, I do enjoy it when I am traveling for long periods of time. And if I ever would in the future, the first Tactics Advance would be a game I would definetly want to borrow.

Its actually been n development for a good while now, i remember E3 covering it last year. Its been weirdly low profile though. SE have had some BIG handheld titles lately though, what with CC, FFXII RW. Hopefully this gets its due, because it seems the last one didnt.

Definately something I'll be getting for the DS. That little thing is very quickly becoming one of my favorite RPG consoles/handhelds.

Amen to that. Although it made battles "interesting", they could have done without them...
My next system purchase will be a DS definitely now
