Cool, didn't expect to see any gameplay for a while. This seems to be the first Resident Evil where you interact with normal humans. Not sure what he was talking about, but he mentioned light and dark, and not being able to see things, many times. Not being able to see items, enemies, 'bio', etc. Not sure what that means, but I hope there will be more videos like this. I want to see Clair soon.
LunarMaster
He's playing with the XB360 controller. XB360 version FTW biggrin.gif

I heard this game is Wii only. Is it true or not? the video shows the 360 controller, but what is it comming out for?

haha like the Wii could handle this game? it would ##### its pants and then self-destruct

Wow, I'm so impressed with the exact same motion capturing as Ganados...
Seems like Capcom decided to switch setting and give more of the same, AGAIN. You'd think a different virus/parasite/disease/magic would have them be different. But nope.

Anyway, I'm hoping that's just beta or alpha version and that that will change, and that Ganado animations are being used as stand ins while they get new motion capturing done. I mean, since I don't see a HUD this game is probably not done. Unless it's not gonna have an RE4 HUD.

I also noticed the same animations that were from RE4 for the Ganados especially how their bodies disappear. Hopefully they are only place holders.

I think the quote above from Athrun makes it obvious that the answer is "true."
Mushroom
Ahhhh, I see, I see. They're using the GB's exclusive features to their advantage with this one. Thank you for the clarification. XD

Here's the full version of that interview, and translated.
I think I understand where they're going with that light/dark aspect. Stepping into a dark place from a bright place will make it hard to see what's ahead of you for a few seconds until the characters eyes adjust. Sounds like it might be an interesting feature, and probably used in more ways than we expect. Good thing that the action button is back again, and improved.

And apparently the origin of the virus seems to be from Africa.
I can see the angry black blog owners making new entries about that one. lol
The Evil Dead
Ever since this footage was released CNN has been shitting themselves over it.

Highlarious.

Like the transition of panic mode in "Hunting Grounds" where it's hard to see ##### when in panic mode and gradually goes back to normal as the main character calms down and eyes readjust.

I like it - its going to add to RE's creepiness.
Mushroom
Its a cool idea, and if they're honestly wanting to take advantage of the power of the new consoles and continue to move towards more and more realism, these are necessary steps. I just hope its done well. ITs definetelya coo lidea though.

Ah, so it is a racist thing.

But seriously, HDR lighting has been available since before RE4 came out - which is surprising that they couldn't add it to the PC version of RE4, at the least.

Here is an interesting note: Much of Wesker's research prior to RE games was of the ebola virus which lead to progenitor. Ebola originates in Afrique.

UK magazine Xbox World 360 (we are not dyslexic) and GamesRadar (link seems to lead nowhere now, but just in case we've got it for you) revealed quite a few juicy bits about Resident Evil 5. Do you remember the new female character seen in Famitsu scans? She's guided by AI when playing solo, but like in Army of Two, if you're online, anyone can jump in at any time and play some co-op with you.

Also revealed to return is the "Mercenaries" mini-game from Resident Evil 4. A few more features/tweaks were mentioned as well: still no strafing, but a cover system has been implemented so you can press against walls and/or shoot around corners. You can now also dodge and duck using the right analog stick.

Stop now if you don't want to read any spoilers at all about the game. We don't want to write them, but we feel obligated to. Consider a small part of us dying as we type these. The game takes place in a small African country near a line of active volcanoes stretched across Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Volcanic activity is what unleashes the virus upon the masses. Classic characters abound -- Sherry Birkin and Albert Wesker have been confirmed -- with playable flashbacks to fill in some story bits otherwise untold.

Look for the game in 2009, the preview concludes. We said it would be out in fiscal year '08, which goes into March of '09. So, look for the game in March. Then delayed to September. Just kidding!
Theferrell
Wooo, pretty graphics, but I kinda say no to horror games. (Last one I played was Silent Hill 2, never picked up one since). So, looks good, but I'm not buying it.
Phisix
Sherry Birkin will be in it? Hmm that screenshot of a blonde girl in a giant tube or whatever it was may be her then. I hope we also find out finally all there is to know about Wesker and what he is up to. Interesting stuff.
Voyou San
some rumors..so a november release date, that would be really cool if it was true... also i wonder what the countdown on the site is..

QUOTE
In March, we posted a rumor on how Resident Evil 5 was expected to hit as early as October (possibly Halloween). This was in support of the rumor that released in April's issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Well, we've received an update from our source stating that Capcom has now pushed the title back to release in November.

We've also been told that Sherry Birkin (the young girl who assisted Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2) will play a role in Resident Evil 5. Since the game takes place 10 years after Resident Evil 2, that puts Birkin at about 22yrs. Old – the perfect age for killing zombies.

Could she be the second playable character for the rumored Co-op? Only time will tell, however, this role may be reserved for the female mercenary recently shown in Japan’s Famitsu magazine.

With a new trailer set to debut May 31st, we hope some of these rumors will be answered. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information.

UPDATE:

A mysterious countdown has recently surfaced on Resident Evil's official website.

new trailer and it looks pretty cool

Xerno
Nice trailer. Of course, it didn't confirm much storywise. I am mostly thinking of wether or not there will be a grand showdown with Wesker at long last, or if he just makes another appearance but stays at a safe distance. Then again, let's not forget that Wesker has promised Chris a final encounter: "Until we meet again... hahaha... MWUHAHA!" =p
AnimePaul
From what I can tell from the new trailer RE5 is basically RE4, but with a new character, melee attacks, more enemies, and it is set in Africa. Somehow the plaga survived and spread to Africa. I guess more RE4 isn't a bad thing, but I was expecting RE5 to do something new and different since it was the first next gen Resident Evil game so I was a little disappointed. From what I can tell the fact that there are more enemies on screen chasing you in groups really gives the player a sense of desperation because your really outnumbered and knowing that there will be co-op is great.
Flame
I pretty much agree with Paul... To be honest, after all the hype I've heard over this trailer in Invisible Walls (The most biased podcast EVER), I ended up being quite disappointed. Yeah it looks great, but it also look like Resident Evil 4 just built up a little more. It's not a bad thing, but I really thought there might be something ground breaking.

Wikipedia (Which I don't trust but is interesting anyway) has said that Sherry Birkin will be in RE5. It's only set 10 years later from Resident evil, but I guess that makes her old enough to be that women we keep seeing in trailers.

UGO has landed an interview with Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi to discuss the upcoming survival horror sequel. Takeuchi begins by defending the RE5 team's decision to use Africa as a backdrop, insisting it is not a race issue. In fact, Chris will not even leave Africa for the entirety of the game. Gameplay-wise, he tells us in the current version of the game, it will allow you to "switch weapons in real time but we can't 100% confirm that that's how the final game will end up." Another gameplay element highlighted is destructible environments -- seemingly safe hiding places can be eliminated by getting knocked down.

Takeuchi also speaks of utilizing next-gen console technology to create "bright, outdoor environments" with an "action-based, a different kind of horror." Quick-time events will also remain in the game, but will "be much more active." Takeuchi then teases everyone by glancing at a PR representative when asked about a co-op mode and responding with "Right now I don't have anything to say about that. All I can say is just wait for E3." He is right, we can't wait for E3 to find out more!

Athrun
Co-op mode sounds awesome, if true. But as for switching weapons in real time, I prefer the lightning fast switch from the menus. Equipping the shotgun in the last second has saved me many times. lol

New scan.

I can't say this new girl seems interesting, but who knows.
Athrun
Bumping for new screens.

You just made my day with those new screens, but then it has not as I realise there is still no release date set yet. Still, those are mighty fine screenshots and I cannot wait for this damn game.
Valince
Wesker could be plotting to awake the dormant G-virus strain that sleeps inside of Sherry Birkin(supressed by the vaccine she took back in RE2). Nice to see that he is still the definition of cool with those shades heh.
Demiurge
Wow....just...WOW! biggrin.gif I can't wait for this!

So it seems the tag-along character is actually going to be useful and hopefully less annoying this time. Why can't 2009 be over with already...

By the way, where did you find those?

Yeah, especially since a second player can control the other character. They showed some co-op action in E3 this year. Looks really promising. I can't wait to play this game.

From what has been shown of the AI co-op player it does look promising like Athrun says, but if she tends to get in the way and make bad judgements then I will not be a happy bunny. I have yet to play a game with a good AI, so lets hope RE5 is the first. Another good thing with this is that a mate can pick and play from the spot or wherever you playing too.
Sarc Griffinheart
The game looks promising, I just wish it took place in a city environment rather than a remote village. Oh well. As for the AI, hopefully it will be a lot better than RE Outbreaks AI. At least the new sidekick won't be as annoying as Ashley.
Hoodman
Eh the remote thing, makes it creepier. I mean RE1 was in a house that was scary.
RE 2 was in Raccoon City which I'll admit also had it's scary moments.
But we've seen the urban city in RE games before.

That's why RE4's village and subsequent castle gave a chance for the game to really utilize the environment and the effects of that world are great.
In RE5 another remote village works just fine for me.
Sarc Griffinheart
Still, they could of at least made Alyssa Ashcroft as the main character. Fanservice please!

Two RE5 Trailers

....They have had a lot of videos at TGS, haha...Was expecting more text-based info on some of these games, but whatever...For now I guess we get videos. ^^.

QUOTE
Speaking to Eurogamer, producer Jun Takeuchi hinted that a playable demo of Resident Evil 5 will be announced soon. Hopefully, that demo will include co-op play when it finally comes our way. Takeuchi had also said that DLC for RE5 is also "possible," but did not disclose whether Capcom is actually working on it.

One thing in particular for PS3 owners, Takeuchi suggests that Capcom has opted not to include a mandatory install for Resident Evil 5. The company has noted that consumer's Majini-like reaction to Devil May Cry 4's space-eating install and are changing their ways. "We're still working on those technical elements in the last couple of months, but we can tell you that if users are dissatisfied with that kind of thing, then it's certainly something we keep in mind when we develop," said Takeuchi. Resident Evil 5 is four months away and will release on March 13, 2009.
