Dragon Brigade
Here’s a new game for the DS (that my sister kindly pointed out to me). There isn’t much behind it yet, but I think it should be interesting, personally. They aren’t done making it yet (as it says in the quote), but so far I can say I’m interested in it.

New From Square Enix: Sigma Harmonics
An original adventure from the folks behind Dirge of Cerberus.
by John Tanaka

March 26, 2008 - Square Enix has an all new game in the works for the DS. First featured in this week's Famitsu is Sigma Harmonics, an original adventure set for Japanese release this summer.

A bit removed from a typical Square Enix game, Sigma Harmonics has a somewhat dark art style, looking a bit like the Persona series. Even the plot is a bit twisted. You play as Sigma, a normal every day student. One day, someone rewrites your past, causing some major chaos with all areas of your present. Working with your friend Neon, you've got to use your puzzle solving skills to return your world to normal.

Sigma Harmonics offers a mix of RPG and adventure gameplay. As you explore and conduct detective work, you make use of a new type of progression system that's being kept under wraps right now. All we know is that it involves more than just selecting your path, and it does use the stylus.

On the RPG side of things, as you explore, you end up facing off against enemies in battles. We're not sure of the specifics, but it seems that Neon does all the fighting in these sequences, with Sigma standing in back and issuing commands. Clearing battles earns you experience, which you can use to build up your characters.

This latest DS title from Square Enix has some major names behind it. The game is being produced by Yoshinori Kitase and directed by Hiroki Chiba and will feature character designs by Yusaku Nakaaki. The common link between Hiroki Chiba and Nakaaki is Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.

Development on Sigma Harmonics is currently at 60%.

Hopefully this gets outside of Japan (they just say a Japan release later this summer), but we’ll see. Just have to wait until they get farther along with it.

Major bump.

A video was on DS Fanboy, and I thought I’d share it:

Only around ten percent of this Sigma Harmonics trailer features actual gameplay from Square Enix's "adventure RPG." Normally, we'd be deflated about this, but not in this instance. That's because the other ninety percent consists of some brilliant cut-scenes, as accompanied by the powerful vocals of Aya Hirano. There's a rather shocking ending as well, when the main protagonist's co-adventurer, Neon Tsukiyumi, meets a grisly end. We can't imagine Square Enix would be silly enough to include a game-harming spoiler in its trailer, so there must be further twists to that Neon's tale.

Oh, and are we the only ones who were reminded of Moogles at 1:52?

Personally I’m pretty interested in this title. It looks interesting, though I almost wish they used the screens the “normal way”, but it doesn’t look too bad.

Anybody else have thoughts on it?

I read up on this earlier and it looks and sounds awesome. The battle system sounds a bit foreign to me, but not to much if you get me. Glad that SquareEnix are giving the DS a lot of love lately.

I'm guessing that what happens to Neon in the trailer is another thing you can solve in the game.

Anyway, here are a few scans I forgot to post before.

The game sounds pretty interesting. The DS is getting a lot of great games lately. (I'm also interested in that other one where you can travel back in time.) Sigma Harmonics is out in Japan so I could try it out, but I'm not sure how much I'd be able to understand. Especially since it seems to have a unique gameplay concept.

Nice scans. =).

Does anyone know if there's been a release date confirmed for territories outside of Japan? I've been trying to think, but I don't know that anyone's confirmed it'll be getting released elsewhere...I'm rather hoping it will though, as I don't really do imports. >.>.
