Gimmick or an Interesting Add-on?

"Their details tell of a device using licensed Gyration patents—the same firm Nintendo scored much of their tech—that utilizes an LED sensor bar, accelerometers and gyroscope, as well as separate 2-way wireless communication (just like the Wiimote uses Bluetooth, the 36mote would probably use Microsoft's proprietary frequency)."

Gay as fuuck as I am not one of those people that do not lean to the right to have my character walk to the right. I use the controller to move.

why microsoft?? are you that desperate? Does the ps3 scare you that much that now you need a gimmick? tsk tsk
Noonstalker
I ( a 360 user and abuser) think MS needs to grow some balls and stop makin ####### products. They need to set their eyes on something that is not done by the other 2 consoles.

What's desperate about it?

How exactly makes this a gimmick?

Why do you bring up PS3 and Sony in every topic? I don't see how Microsoft planning to use a motion sensing controller as a gimmick and have no clue why you even brought up Sony and PS3 in this discussion. I just see a company expanding into a different style of gaming. You don't have to like it, but just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bad idea.

Sony taken ideas from Nintendo and Microsoft. Microsoft done the same. Nintendo, too. I don't see what the problem would be. Most people want the company they prefer to be innovated. Still, people backlash at a company trying to be innovated by calling their ideas a "gimmick".

Wow, Nintendo is winning and suddenly Microsoft jumps on the band-wagon. I guess that is what happens when you decide to release all your "A+" titles during one holiday and then have nothing besides GTA4.

For me, this seems like Microsoft is scared and doing there best to compete with the other companies. Microsoft shouldn't do stupid little things like this. They were the ones that mocked Nintendo when they did the motion-sensor controls and now they are following suit. As long as Microsoft is beating Sony, they should be happy. That is their main competition. Nintendo is doing something completely different.
The Evil Dead
Gimmicky piece of ##### like the original Wiimote.
Mushroom
Meh. #### this idea. They should, I don't know, spend some time making their consoles less faulty instead.

Nintendo in the same field as Microsoft and Sony. They're onto top. Microsoft competition is Sony and Nintendo. It's just odd that people keep talking about competition and leaving the company that's on top in the console and handheld department. It's because Nintendo doing something completely different that might be reason why they're ahead of the competition.

Again, why is it a gimmick? Are people even going to attempt to state why they think it's a gimmick or just split on the idea that doesn't fly with their interest. I could make fun of the idea myself, because it's not a feature I likely won't like, but doesn't make it a gimmick or bad idea, because I don't like it.

Sony and Microsoft have stated on NUMEROUS ocasions that they don't see Nintendo as a competition. Both of the representatives have stated that they only see each other as a competition. They are the bigger companies and have much more money, so they are the big players. They see Nintendo as the whole different entity doing something completely different. Plus, the 360/PS3 are realitively the same price with the Wii so much less. They see consumers either buying a PS3 or 360 AND a Wii. Hence, the competition between the PS3 & 360 for the major console. In reality, they saw the failure of the Gamecub and wrote them off forever.

And them doing something different is the reason that they are ahead. That and they targeted the billions of people who never play games besides the same, small gaming community that Microsoft/Sony is after.

The reason that it is a gimmick is because Microsoft is copying Nintendo. It's like when a knock-off game comes on the market right after a successful one. It's gimmicky. For example, GTA was huge, so you saw all these knock-off "sandbox" style games with too much swearing and stupid violence. Hence, it was gimmicky.

Also, Microsoft/360 aren't known to do something like this. It's like Nintendo releasing a bunch of M-rated FPS. That is not what they are known for, so it is kind of fake of them to do it.

The only company that should be afraid of the PS3 right now would be Hoover. Because my PS3 collects a lot more dust than any vacuum cleaner ever has. And let's not forget that Sony also felt the need to have motion sensing added to their console as well.

It's a useful technology... It sometimes makes for crappy "gimicky" games, but whatever. When a gaming feature works for one console company, others follow suit with their own twist on it. It's been the case with controller designs, features like rumble, etc. etc... Microsoft isn't the first company to "copy" something, so really, get over it.

Besides, I'd be happy to see the technology used in some FPS titles, but done RIGHT. Microsoft seems a little more likely to do that than Nintendo, so it could be interesting to see if MS can make good use of it. It has a huge chance of flopping, yeah, but I'm open to the possibilities.

You should be careful there, don't want to go voiding your warranty XD

And to be fair, the sixaxis was a poor attempt at cashing in on the wii's ideas too. So thats not much of a justification XD

How isn't it? Why do you need a 3D mouse to game? And game poorly? It just doesn't fly ( As any third party title will show for the Wii ) and if it ever becomes the norm I'm done with gaming. Give me my controller, please.

Sell it now before the next price cut.

I was honestly just planning on bashing the idea, personally XD

Mr. Wonderful
Hm.

Gimmicky, and unneeded if you ask me. The 360 is doing just fine without out this, I don't see the need to add another type of controller.
Noonstalker
