QUOTE

Parent-oriented video game site WhatTheyPlay.com had a poll earlier this week which caused the site's own editor to post W.T.F. on his personal blog. The results of the unscientific poll showed that respondents were almost equally disturbed by the idea of a "graphically severed human head" as they were by "two men kissing" in a video game. Respondents were actually far more offended by a man and a woman having sex, which received 37% of the vote, while dropping the F-bomb only received 10%.

As GamePolitics points out, the results are in line with traditional American values and legal precedent, which holds sex to a different First Amendment standard than violence. We're not judging one way or the other, but we know what actions might cause us to pause (possibly take a photo) if we saw them on the street and which would have us calling the cops.

It's Amerca. We love violence but hate the sexytime.

I'm not really surprised by this poll at all. It just goes to show you how our culture is.
fullmetal
it's pretty dissapionting if you ask me. I mean honestly, if I was a parent I wouldn't care, down to a certain age limit. but I wouldn't want my 3 year old child (not saying I've got one) playing a game where two men are making out. or where one of the most famous moves is to jump and decapitate your enemy while flying through the air to do the same to your second foe. I'm not saying that I'd rather them being watching a couple of people have sex either, but they've got to learn sooner or later, and america these days, it's usually sooner.
Peach
That is why we have our game ratings in our games in America. happy.gif
blazing passion
i agree with celine and fullmetal. the games ive played in the u.s are pretty ****** up:rolleyes: but most of them are cool by my word. tongue.gif
Mushroom
hahahah thats hilarious. What if you hack someones head off then make out with them? That must be the ultimate offence XD
Noir
That poll disgusts me more than any of the options. 22% of the people who voted think two men kissing is more offensive than a severed head? ##### them.

Too bad most parents are idiots and buy their children whatever they want so they will be quiet.

I worked at Gamestop and this father came up with GTA. The 10 year old was right next to him, so I knew he was going to buy it for him. I pointed to the Mature Rating and discussed everything that was wrong with the game and how it might not be the best game for his son. The father shrugged his shoulders and said, "He wants it." I couldn't do anything.

When the hell did children start controlling parents?
Mushroom
*shrugs* I would not only give GTA to my son, I would teach its ethics to him like it was prayer.

Here in Canada,we're cutting down sex ed class and on violence at the same time. We view sex as a huge taboo in North America, yet its everywhere. Violence is around us, and 90 % of the time we'll turn a blind eye too it.
Pesmerga
Hahaha, American culture =P.
Why am I not surprised.

I'd simply refuse to sell it. Get a complain from the customer and probably someone else will sell it to him, but at least you have a clean sheet.

On that note, in the Netherlands people aren't too fussed about age limits. You see it at the theatres, but I never really see it happening at gamestores. Usually, people aren't fussed about these kind of things. Then again, you don't hear stories about dutch kids stabbing each other for playing Manhunt 2.

Here in England, however, people are extremely picky about age limits. I even got refused to buy Saw III, because I had no "valid" proof in Virgin Megastore (now known as Zavvi).
Reason, my European ID card, valid in all of Europe, was not valid in Zavvi, because the ##### idiot didn't recognise the card. Backwater village twat only knows drivers licenses and Passports and so didn't accept it. Funnily enough, HMV did accept it.
Got, Virgin has some of the most retarded people on the planet.
Mushroom
hahaha, thats retarded man. It is ridiculously strict in the UK though. I don't drive, so I had to shel lout £80 on a passport, because no-one would take any of my several valid ID's with the pass logo on them.

Man, thats its just like buying liquor for minors, yet it doesnt carry a huge fine in Canada.
Flame
These kind of moral decisions are out of the Cashiers hands. You've done everything you can by advising him that it's not a good game for his son, but you can't refuse sale.

I once sold an axe to a man in a suit with a twitch in his eye... he later came back and bought a spade...

I really can't believe that parents would rather have their children see someone have their head graphically severed off then watching two men kiss. It's just plain ridiculous.
Denim
Men can heterosexually kiss too, but I suppose no one thinks that's possible.
Mushroom
Thats just crazy talk.
Denim
Brothers Karamazov can't possibly have gay incestuous undertones. It's just Russian.
