I'm surprised there hasn't been another topic up here about this, maybe I'm just missing it but whatever.

So some new trailers have been released and I'm really liking the look of this game. It reminds me a lot of Resident Evil 5. The graphics seem decent although the animation leaves something to be desired. I'm not sure how well the game play is going to be but it looks like there is a lot of variety. Apparently the game has said to be very open ended and expansive.

I love the setting, it reminds me of how Resident Evil II should have been like. It'll probably start off quite small but I think... from the sounds of things the first part of the game is about outing some cult or something in underground tunnels, but I can't wait for everything to kick off and affect the city above.

Apparently it's being released on the 360, PS3 and the Wii...

Any thoughts?

I saw the newest trailer for this game maybeeee 2 night ago? It looks freakin awesome, the game looks very good and some of the features are very cool. I watched a tech video where they showed all the combinations you could do with the items etc, and it looks pretty fun. Definetely planning on picking this up.
Noonstalker
I might check it out. I need a horror/survivor to play now. This looks like a good play too. Im waiting for the new Silent Hill more than anything. lol

I think I'm the only one here really stoked about this game...

Anyway a new trailer has come out for it, nothing special or particularly new but it's a decent enough trailer. There are a few locations I saw that look really awesome and the car sections look a lot of fun. With this and Metal Gear coming out, I think June might be the month I buckle for a PS3 >.<

might be.. i am interested from a rent standpoint, but thats prolly it. Looks good and it might end up being a very solid title, but just not high up on my list of games i need to get

I just watched the driving gameplay, and it's put a real downer on the game. It was one of the sections which really looked the best, but sadly you are basically driving a pre-determined path and the driving mechanics looks awful. I'm starting to think that if the rest of the game is like this then I'll only rent it as well. I know it's not a driving game, but they still should have taken more care over it or just left it out entirely. I loved the idea of driving around a city that was collapsing around you with all these other cars around you as well, but it hardly turned out that way. The plot doesn't seem too interesting either, reminds me a lot of Resident Evil 5.

'Tis a shame...
The Evil Dead
This game is the death of Atari.

Like... Seriously it is.

As you can tell, I'm from Alone in the Dark. Jack in the Dark to be precise. laugh.gif

I ordered this from eBay. I'll get it sent out to me in June though. wink.gif

Well so far quite a positive (but not a glowing) review from Eurogamer who are known to be notoriously harsh with their scores.

I love a good yarn, and I was hoping to find one in Alone in the Dark. Instead I was introduced to yet another amnesiac fighting demons and carrying around a spooky stone. It doesn't help that our hero is challenged in the dialogue department, having been endowed by the game's writers with a nasty blue streak. You can count on hearing the words f*** or s*** nearly every time our scarred-up hero opens his mouth, an attempt at gritty realism that comes off as adolescent and trite.

The problem is, who – if anyone – at the publisher or developer actually played this game and decided it was a good thing to unleash on gamers? Did they not realize how horrible the game is to control or how screamingly annoying the camera is switching from third person to a fixed shot is? Did no one say, guys we really need to make this game less of a frustrating mess, even for people who play lots of games? The answer to these questions seems to be “no”.

For a game set in an eerie looking Central Park, with monsters around every corner, Alone in the Dark isn't really very scary. You'd assume this would be a given. You even have the trademark torch that runs out of batteries, yet there are few scares. When a monster lands on the roof of your car for the first time you might jump, but then when you've seen another magically fly 100 metres in order to do so it ruins the mood somewhat. There's a constant fear of death, but this isn't down to the setting but the inevitable fumbling in your inventory. One of the scariest moments occurred early on when Carnby appeared to be having some kind of seizure, his body uncontrollably gyrating on the spot. Alas, this was a bug, just one of many that occurred during my play through of the game.

As a lesson in ambition and creativity, AITD is an awkward (but welcome) role model. Though no one element is particularly polished, the game's plenty varied, and it happily defies genre characterization wherever it can — racing segments, rappelling, and a handful of great ideas keep things fresh. Though with such methodical, purposeful design every step of the way, it's tough to sit back and enjoy what's otherwise an engaging, surprisingly cinematic caper. You likely won't be thrilled by the time you sit through both of the equally lame lose-lose endings, but I can't imagine you'd regret your time in the Dark.

Wow, that's some seriously negative criticism. I was considering to get this game, as it seemed to have potential. But now I'm quite sure I'll pass on this one. Too bad.
Crimson Cloud
What the hell happened? I though this game was gonna rock for sure. The only thing that didn't appeal to me, from the info and watching the trailers, was the fact that your enemies had to be burnt to stay dead. But man, talk about bad criticism. Anyone rent it and thought that was good?
Crimson Cloud
Sorry for the double post, but I have to make an announcement. This game is nowhere nearly as bad. I had my doubts about the reviews so I decided to check it out personally on Xbox360. And you know what, I'm glad I did.

This game rocks so hard that the certain points made me shed a tear. You climb down while the ruin parts falls from the calapsing building above. I was at the edge of my seat.
Those who are interested in this game already know who is the main dude, so no use explaining it. The graphic is good, the animation of Edward is good accept when he is walking on the edges and some other parts where he would look like he is floating on the damn thing. The in-game menu where you want to use items are Edward pockets which you access in real time making the already tough battle even harder, but you can select weapons in quick equip menu so no problem there.

You can combine various items, like your flashlight and a gun or you can just hold just a flashlight in the hand. Same goes for a lighter which can be combined with some items making it a weapon, but also it is a stand alone item that you can equip. I know that this isn't important but it's a really nice touch. When Edward gets hurt he will have scars and burnts who will stay there (yeah, even in cutscenes) untill he heals them with a spray or bandages to close an open wound. Oh yeah, the spreading fire makes your decisions to be done in a hurry.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with reviewers, because the only bad parts would go to controls who are really crappy making a fast decisions quite painful combined with a bad camera angle. And driving a car could have been better.

There are so many other good parts to say about this game but I shouldn't do it. You just rent the game and see for yourselves. Epic fail my ass.

if you read most of the reviews cloud, the thing they all have in common is they all said the controls are just OMG bad, from what ive read they all said the game looks good, but overall the controls are just too sloppy to make up for and that though you can combine a lot of items, you hardly use most of them and that fire is overused. So really they all say its not that horrible if the controls were just better and if the combat didnt suck.

i dont know, from the reviews to what ive seen, i think ill pass on this and pick up Siren.
Crimson Cloud
I agree about that, and even I have to say that the controls couldn't been worse. You swing a chair in 3rd person with analog stick but shoot a gun with one button in a first person. But once you get a hang of it, it's ok to play with. Although yeah, the fire is overused. You can't kill a single thing without dragging it afterwards in the fire. You can imagine the frustration when there are more enemies then one...

All I'm saying that game didn't deserve a crappy 3.5 from IGN, for a example. I mean the game has to be so darn bad with nothing in it to give a score like that. All in all, it's a fun game. I was a fan of the series and I love this one.
