I know when I first started playing Kingdom Hearts, I was a bit disappointed, but that disappointed was quickly banished as I started going through the first few worlds. I loved the gummi ships, although the second one had a much better system for them. As I started up on Agrabah, I was simply stunned. Sure, the disney characters were kind of annoying, but the storyline was great and the fighting system was just a lot of fun. The kiddiness to it was something refreshing considering I had never played a game where the idea of the stereotypical Lawful Good character remained so.
So what I want to ask all of you, who've actually played the game in full, when was it that you finally decided that what you had was a good/terrible game?
As I already stated, my time was when I went into Agrabah. At that point I was just enjoying the battle system and I actually enjoyed some of the platforming, however limited it may have been. Following all of the disney scripts was somewhat annoying, but the twists that were put into it all were kinda fun.
I'm sure even those who can't stand the game at least tried to play it. I'd like your input as well.

The battle system WAS nice and all...And I liked the game overall, but the lack of usefulness for the worlds brought it down for me. By which I mean, though there are plenty of Disney worlds, with different storylines and villains, once you conquered each world and beat the bad guy, there really wasn't much reason to ever go back to that world unless it was for synthesis materials.
I think...Though the environments were nice, the lack of villages, and consequently, lack of PEOPLE, led to each world being utterly useless, and rather boring once it's story line was finished. Even Traverse town, though it was a proper town, it still amounted to a simple cluster of background buildings with a complete lack of NPC interaction except for the shop keepers.
Granted, the Colosseum was fun, but that was really the only non-storyline thing to do in the game apart from Gummi ships.
And that's what brought the game down for me. It was still a nice game, but could have been much better if it had things to do outside of the storyline.

I was in and out of the first game for quite a while, from a combination of skepticism over the whole Disney aspect, general lack of interest (i.e. other games had my attention), and even just getting stuck at some points. The first point I decided that I really liked the game... It must've been around Halloween Town. I stopped playing again after I got there (due to getting San Andreas for Christmas), but eventually picked it up again. When I started to get really into it was at Hollow Bastion (first visit, even), and I think it's obvious why. =P (Y'know, original world, some of the most important story development, and how can you not love having Beast at your side?)

I decided I liked the game when I was in Destiny Island. Of course, I’d seen my sister play a little bit, but even then, I thought it would be a good game after watching her play just that far. When I got to the Tarzan world though (I got stuck, haha. Yeah...sad...but I realized in my “second” play through that I had always been trying to go the wrong direction, so naturally things didn’t work well.), I stopped and didn’t pick the game back up for a very long time (equal to about a year, maybe). So, I had to start over, and then I played through the game and went to the second (just beat them both last summer, actually.).
What really kept me playing was the story. I mean, I did lost a bit of interest in some worlds once you were done with the story, but the incentive of learning more about things (albeit in the kiddyish fashion most of this was displayed in) was enough to keep me trudging through the worlds.
So yeah, I liked the whole game, but I admit I’d seen my best in Hollow Bastion (and Halloween Town, actually). I usually get into games more near the end worlds, but that usually only happens if I’ve managed to get myself interested in the game up to that point in the first place. So yeah...I liked the whole game personally (with some places less than others...ie; Alice in Wonderland...just seemed so...dull.).

Not to mention the Alice in Wonderland world was so damn complicated. I seriously hated that world, having to twist and turn all of the rooms at so many different angles to get each of the things you needed, both for the story and the extras. I got bored with it very fast, as well as frustrated.

The complication was one of my favorite parts about both Alive in wonderland and Hollow Bastion in the first one. Granted, Hollow Bastion was rather straight forward in actuality, but it definetly had it's moments.
I just couldn't stand Alive in wonderland for the heartless selection and the story. There were very few unique enemies, and I can't even remember if there was a single unique enemy, and then the story for the world was just short and lame. Nothing good came out of the world outside of the Lady Luck.

Hah, well, I hate places that have 4 different entrances at all different angles. And as you mentioned, the heartless and the story didn't do the game any justice either. Personally, I aways get it out of the way as soon as possible, just to save the heartache later on, as all those hidden entrances and tricks and such are just....gah.

I've actually played KH2 first. The contros were easy and the battles fun enough for me to add it to my favourite list even before playing with Sora. And it only got BETTER!! The aerial battles are so COOL (after certin level there are so many combos and enimies you can stay mid air fighting for MINUTES!!)!!

And the story was a lot deeper and mature than I'd expect. Heck! Even Donald and Goofy and most (but not all) Disney characters were cool enough and funny. Very few characters were annoying.
I don't know if I'd becam a straight away fan if I had played KH1 first. Or perhaps the problem is that I played the second, that had much improoved controls. Seriously, on the hit of the moment you can't select a special action from a menu!!
But KH1 story's is interesting too, although at first looks like pure cliché with nothing much than Disney's villains teaming up to cause trouble!
