Synopsis:
QUOTE (IMDb)
An American teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kung-fu classics makes an extraordinary discovery in a Chinatown pawnshop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King. With the lost relic in hand, the teenager unexpectedly finds himself traveling back to ancient China to join a crew of warriors from martial arts lore on a dangerous quest to free the imprisoned Monkey King.

QUOTE (Apple Trailers)
A 21st Century American teenager takes a spellbinding, dangerous journey into martial arts legend in the new action/adventure epic FORBIDDEN KINGDOM. Shot on location in China, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM marks the historic first-ever onscreen pairing of martial arts superstars Jackie Chan (RUSH HOUR, DRUNKEN MASTER) and Jet Li (FEARLESS, ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA), and features the awe-inspiring action choreography of Wo Ping (THE MATRIX, CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON). While hunting down bootleg kung-fu DVDs in a Chinatown pawnshop, Jason (played by Michael Angarano - “24”, “Will and Grace,” LORDS OF DOGTOWN, SEABISCUIT) makes an extraordinary discovery that sends him hurtling back in time to ancient China. There, Jason is charged with a monumental task: he must free the fabled warrior the Monkey King, who has been imprisoned by the evil Jade Warlord. Jason is joined in his quest by wise kung fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and a band of misfit warriors including Silent Monk (Jet Li). But only by learning the true precepts of kung fu can Jason hope to succeed - and find a way to get back home.

Take note that the movie is based on the novel "Journey to the west".

===================

H'okay, I know there was a recent topic made before. but now the movie is out, I thought I'd make another topic with all the info and for people who have seen the movie.

UK doesn't get the movie until frickin' July - JULY! - which I think is seriously stupid dude, Russia gets it before the UK!? >_> I'll most likely get my cousin to send me a VCD copy of the movie, this is why asian cinema isn't as big in the UK as the US is.

Anyways, when I heard that Jackie Chan and Jet Li were going to star in a movie together, my first thought was meh. Ever since I found out its based in the ancient China time period I really want to see it ~! ;D I'm happy that its set in ancient China (the old raggy clothes, the heavy gold armour, wooden sticks as weapons <3333 it makes me miss the good old chinese drama with that setting), it just fits more with Kung Fu and it actually makes Jet Li look better than when he's in a present time movie doing kung fu (hence why I like him in Wong Fei Hung and Fearless). The only thing that I find sucky about the movie, is the fact that they're speaking english... people in those days would SO not be able to speak english =_= unless they were rich and had lessons... but even then, the time period is still alittle unsuited, but whatever (it's a movie!).

Funny how they don't even show the teenage kid in the commercials for this. I wonder why they would ever do such a thing? Hmm

Just want to mention that "King of kung fu" is the chinese title for the movie translated into english, but was given another english title instead. Though, you can consider them "kings of kung fu" in your own opinion xP.

Right now it's the #1 movie in the US. I'll see after all the stuff needed for me to graduate is done.
Voyou San
i enjoyed this flick, i really did. Good humor, very good action and a good enough story. This is really a must see in my opinion for the fight scenes and the funny humor between jet Li and Jackie Chan.

a point?

I was just making a note for people not to be mistaken that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are being labelled "Kings of Kung fu" (incase they don't agree with the title) and that it is just another title for the movie. I didn't mean anything else by it, if it seems that way, it was unintentional x_X.

he must have because while he does have a big part in the movie, jackie chan and that white kid take up a bit more screentime than him.

saw it, enjoyed it, will get it when it comes out on DVD.

though i now know why Jet Li doesn't have many speaking roles.

LOLS, I got a kick out of Jackie Chan being a thrift store owner. WIN!

anyways, I kind of want to watch it. My brother told me it was a really good flick to watch, although at first he was so confused about the white kid being in it lols.

I also heard the Jackie Chan and Jet Li fight was not as epic as it could've been . =_=

the white kid at the beginning does throw things off, made me think i had stepped into the wrong movie theatre..

i thought the fight was pretty damn good, yes it could have been a lot better, but it was still damn good fight

I only liked the fighting scenes and the visual effect, and the white haired lady's look. The rest of it I didn't like, and I honestly find some of the parts ridiculous and suspiciously like scenes of a certain epic movie (not that Epic Movie, sorry). But then again, I only watched it to see Jet Li and Jackie Chan fight each other, so I wasn't expecting very much. Turn out that it didn't exceed my expectations after all.

They really shouldn't speak English. It sounds so out of place.

The Warlords is a much much better movie.
Razael
I'll watch it when I get the chance.

I read Jet Li and Jackie dont fight though, i wanted to have Jackie kick his ass, I hate Jet Li

I'll still go see this movie just for kicks. I wanna see if Jackie and Jet Li still have any spark in them. I personally always liked Jackie more, even if he necessarily wasn't as "Badass" as Jet Li was.

Like it should!

I'd pay to see a movie that's an hour and a half of those two fighting. :3

Mandatory white kid put the movie down a notch, but at least it wasn't a bad movie.

I liked it. =p
Natsuki
I didn't like it very much...

It was SO not as epic as the trailers made it out to be and the fight between Chan and Li was sucky. They fought about 5-8 minutes or so and then kind of just stopped. Nothing flashy and the setting they were fighting in wasn't that great either. The movie in general was cheesy and moreso a Hollywood movie trying to self-orientalise itself too much =/. The only thing that kept me entertained was Jackie's funny lines and fighting ;P.

If you choose to make them speak english then make the whole cast speak english! No-one in China in those times could speak english at all then! D; It just looks silly to make the people that met the american kid speak english and everyone else speak mandarin. =/
