19-year-old girl, Alia Sabur, world's youngest professor

BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Alia Sabur, 19, was announced the youngest full-time college professor in history by the Guinness Book of World Records, media reported Tuesday.

That happened last month, when the venerable publication named Sabur the world's youngest college professor.

It's no surprise if you take a look at her life: The child prodigy from Northport enrolled at Stony Brook University in America at age 10 and played clarinet with the Rockland Symphony Orchestra at 11.

When the New York child genius was 14 she earned her bachelor's degree. Sabur was 18 when she was hired Feb. 19 as a professor in the Department of Advanced Technology Fusion at Konkuk University, in Seoul of ROK.

"It's really a great honor to be in the company of such great scientists," the now 19-year-old said.

Sabur is set to start physics studies and teaching next month at Konkuk. For now, she is teaching math and physics courses at Southern University in New Orleans. She said classroom teaching in Seoul will be challenging because she doesn't speak Korean. "I can speak math and music," she said.

The previous record was held by a student of physicist Isaac Newton, Colin Maclaurin, who set the mark in 1717.

That's absurd. I'm 19. What am I doing? RPing on an RPG forum and struggling through my freshman year of college. What am I doing with my life? XD
Denim
Haha. She's the age of the kids she's teaching.

Though, Advanced Technology Fusion? WTF is that? It's in Korea, so I bet she's going to be building giant robots. WHO IS DRIVING! BEAR IS DRIVING HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!
Dragon Brigade
ATF has more to do with nuclear fusion reactions and that sort of thing...
Noir
I feel so lazy all of a sudden, sweet.

*laughs* I wonder if they have ten-year over in China. Before he hits 30, he could have a job where he could not get fired from. His enter life is set for him. That is pretty cool if he doesn't get tired of what he is doing.

I always thought it'd be great to be a professor. However, the schooling to get it is a bit insane and I was not prepared to be in school for a couple of more years.
Denim
A lot of people work before they turn 18. Many people get full time jobs at that point. It's not uncommon to enter "the job market" at that point. What is uncommon is that a teenager is a college professor.

Wow, I just graduated wth my bachelors in Civil Engineering at 24 (well, I took two years off from college though... so I did technically graduate within four college years). More power to her.

Figured she'd be asian though...
MightOfKerghan

Well done. Don't feel too bad, we all can't be geniuses. *cough*
