I'm not sure if any of you aware of the (to me anyway) legendary anime Macross, who is also known as Robotech in US. Few Macross series came out a while back, but I wasn't active in watching them so I can't actually say if and were they better then the first who came, if my memory serves me, in 1982. This is a pic from MF, with it's three main characters and three love triangles.

The series are now celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime, the story is set on the year 2059. The series features the 25th colonial fleet, the Macross Frontier. Fans know that the main mechs of this anime are Variable fighters (VF), a fictional transforming aerospace fighters primarily designed by Studio Nue's Shoji Kawamori and Kazutake Miyatake. Their most notable feature is the ability to transform from it's Fighter form into a humanoid giant robot called Battroid and an in-between mode called Gerwalk. And yeah, that was straight taken from wikipedia. I'm lame to make my own words...

Here is a VF-25 type for example.

The anime is actually pretty new so finding pics was a bit pain, but I didn't search for them deeply anyway. The story seems great, from what a normal thought can come from a single episode. The ships and mechs are all cel-shaded, and I know that some would be discouraged by this info but in here, it's not bad at all. Action is sick and I think it will totally beat Gundam. If you are a mech fan I recommend you to watch this, I know I will.

Haha, nice to see you sharing your love with everyone else. I haven't ever really looked into the Macross series. It's really only been something I've heard about in the ether. It looks interesting, from what you've described. Might be something for me to watch while I eventually catch up with Gundam 00.

Actually, it appears that there are no Macross fans here so I'll have to discuss with ones on other forums who are making the major watchers of these great series. But from what I saw, even non-fans are hooking up fast with this one.

The problem is that other people don't understand that Macross series is not about the mechs, they are merely a tool which they use just as people take guns. And when there is a fight, Macross is known for it's fast dogfights. It's never one mech against many, it's team VS team, raging battles filled with music and songs, a love story and a lot of development for the characters who are great in my book.
The music and composition is done by Yoko Kanno and for some performance Maaya Sakamoto is also there.

I watched the episode 4 and I have to say that this anime will be my favorite this year. The people have no idea what they are missing. Well, not really, if you only like super god-like mechs that is.

What is up with the main characters design? If they wanted to make the main character look like a girl, they should have made the main character a female instead. I thought Tiera Erde from Gundam 00 was pushing it when it came girly looks, but the main character in Macross Frontier is just ridiculous.

Yeah well, the main character is named Alto and yes he is too girlish, but you get used to it, others are quite normal though. Even his friend Mikhail calls him ''Princess Alto'', and everyone else is labeling him as a girl which is quite funny. But believe me, there is a reason as a part of story for him to look like that.

EDIT:

Here, as a new recruit one of his new buddies refreshed his face to look like a real girl lol

Wow, it's already episode 20 and I have never been hyped about waitting for another episode of anime as I am now. Amazing, truly amazing. Although, you have to like musical battles and listen to songs in every episode to fully appreciate the show. I loved Macross series even before Gundam was born, so I can safely say that even though every mecha anime has it's beauty, romance and character development (only for mecha kind) is what Macross does the best.

It's a shame that none of you are watching this, but I guess you have your own shows to watch. I won't brag again with this topic, but if you ever have the time or you finished all the episodes of recent anime, give this one a shot.
Oh, and sorry for the double post.
