http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/04/24/disgae...e-dlc-in-japan/Nippon Ichi hasn't released Disgaea 3 in America yet, but Japan is already getting its first taste of DLC for the popular SRPG. On April 25th (that's today in Japan), ten more playable characters will be added to the game. According to Siliconera, "If you clear the game and Mao's level is higher than one of the additional characters he/she will join your party. One character joins at a time and Nippon Ichi has not announced what level Mao needs to be to recruit any of them."
Unlike DLC in many other games, this update will cost absolutely nothing. Free. Hopefully, NIS America will be just as generous when this title eventually makes its way stateside.

I'm kind of confused about what DLC is. Has Disgaea 3 been released already? I've never heard of individual games getting free upgrades, or upgrades at all for that matter, except a few PS3 games I think.
Well despite my confusion, a few of those characters look pretty cool. The far right middle one reminds me of an undead Laharl.

DLC means downloadable content. Some games do get free updates, but it's usually fixing bugs in games and such.
Disgaea 3 was released for PS3 in Japan at the beginning of the year. August 2008 is the US release date.

I'm not sure what his/her name is supposed to be. Poriima or something like that.

This one looks a bit like Kakashi from Naruto.

Aren't those just avatars of character classes from Disgaea 3?
The first three images are Geo Master, Ninja and Thief. The last image in the second column a gunner. It's the same type of artwork for the Gunner class used in Makai Kingdom. The last image in the third column is a witch, which I believe is from Makai Kingdom. I don't remember if that style of witch was used in Disgaea 2.

Free DLC is always good... And I think it's really awesome that things like extra characters are included in an RPG such as Disgaea. I hope many other RPG developers follow suit in some way or another... Whether it be added new areas to explore, new items to get, or even new characters.
Sweet stuff.

Well I don't know for sure, but I got it from here:
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20080424/dg3.htmIt talks about the extra content that will start on the 25th, and that the download will either start automatically when you start the game, or the game will ask you if you want to download it. (Not sure about that part)
As for the characters, I have no idea since I haven't played Disgaea 3. But the names of the first three images you mentioned doesn't match what I'm reading. At leats the first two. (I can't read the third one)
The first one is Gorou the Animal King. The second one that looks like Kakashi is called Circle Gorilla.
Perhaps they use the same avatars for these new job classes, or maybe it's something else.

It's not even released outside of Japan yet, but Nippon Ichi has been steadily planning Disgaea 3 expansions for consumption. While these updates and such may just be for Japan, it's likely we'll either see them incorporated into our game from the start or will see them on the PlayStation Store shortly after the game is localized. Anyway, starting June 27, there will be one pack per month until January of 2009 -- contents vary. In June, a new character will be available and sometime in Winter, new scenarios will open up. These aren't free, but only cost the Japanese fans 100 yen per pack. We'll find out in August what'll become of these updates outside of Japan.

The first DLC for Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice in Japan was released back in April for free, but now Siliconera is reporting that the next DLC pack will cost 100 yen (about $1 US) and will feature Adell and Rozalin from the previous Disgaea game on the PS2 as extra characters. The pack will also include a PlayStation 3 theme illustrated by Haruda Takehito, the character designer from the Disgaea series. Also announced are a summer/fall pack which will feature a new ranking system and a winter pack which will feature new scenarios.

They'll keep releasing downloads of characters from past NIS titles. It's not that difficult with a game like Disgaea 3. At least, I figure it isn't.

I'm almost done with Disgaea 2. There's only 12 chapters, right? I just hit 8.
The plot so far is nothing spectacular, though. It's funny, and has it's moments, but I've called a few plot twists that I think will be happening soon. For example, i'm pretty sure I know who Zenon's two assistants are/were. =p I'm enjoying the story, but I want to be surprised, damn it.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Disgaea 3, especially after hearing about all this DLC. If the DLC comes stateside, I will be rather pleased. =)

They're the Ten Gentlemen or something if I recall correctly. Or that could be a later update, it's the first time I've seen them myself.
I want to see some Soul Cradle guys personally. Or integrate gameplay from Phantom Brave into Disgaea 3 somehow. Would be interesting to see how that would work out, even for just one map.
Also, I'm sad to see the convict class gone and turned into the Male Cleric. No love for convicts in the Netherworld these days?

Many gamers have already asked me if Disgaea 3 will have full trophy support. I am sad to report that NIS America had confimed to me a few weeks ago that they were looking into it. However, as of now, there will be no Trophy Support.
As for the DLC, the extra character DLC will indeed be coming to the US through the Playstation Store, but there is no definite release date.

Good news. By then I'll probably have a PS3 (Have to get one for RE5. Wait is not an option there) so I'll probably pick up the gane, I skipped Disgaea 2, so I haven't played a game in this series for a while.

Disgaea 3 is listed with a release date of August 26, 2008. Yet the local GameStop won't have the game until tomorrow at noon. How disappointing. I keep forgetting that release date is the day the game is shipped to retailers, while a couple of retailers get the game today, while others get them the following day. Of course, the more popular games tend to be released on the day they're listed as being released, not the next day.
Oh well, I just have to wait another day.

yea my gamestop told me the same thing, game in tomorrow, but then last night i got a call from their automated biatch saying it would be in today. So i called my gamestop back and had them check again and they confirmed it would be here today. So they better be right. But it is wierd because other gamestops told me they would have it on the shelfs today but some told me wednesday, weird stuff.

I called my GameStop again and the store did receive Disgaea 3 copies today, so I went and got one.
First up the first chapter. So far, I like what I see. The plot and characters already seem interesting compare to Disgaea 2 cast, so that's a plus. The battle system is the same system from the previous game with a couple of features changed, but otherwise, it's the same.

I love the tower moves. I absolutely love them. There's no easier way to level up a bunch of people at once (that I've found so far). Haha!
Mao... seems off. I'm in the middle of Chapter 2, but I'm not connecting with his character yet. Maybe after a little more time it'll be better for me, I've no idea. And at first, I hated the intro video. I loved the violin and the strings used in the music of the last two games, but music wise, this game seems to be going off on a tangent. The singing in the BGM is a neat idea, I loved it with Persona 3, so hopefully D3 can pull it off just as well. Did anyone else get the "special" soundtrack thing? I've got the unofficial three disk soundtrack from the original game, but it's neat to have this copy with select songs from each game.
And was I the only one that loved Disgaea 2? Plot wise, it wasn't as good as 1's, but it was pretty darn close. There weren't any huge plot twists, but I rushed through it to see the rest of the story. The last battle was rather anti-climactic, I'll admit.
I have to beat this game quickly, Tales of Vesperia comes out tomorrow. =/

onto 3 though, I love this game so far, I am only 3 hours into it but its good and funny which is always a plus. I do wish they could have polished it a bit more to really use the PS3 hardware but its not a huge deal.

Reached the final chapter. Since I haven't done much in the Item or Character World, my characters are not as powerful as I would like at the final chapter, but I might be able to defeat the game with my current party, but I might need to level up more and purchase better equipment. After I'm done, then post-game begins, where I begin the quest to unlock Laharl, Etna, Flonne, Marona, Asagi and Axel. That's when I need to grind my characters levels up. Post-game should keep my occupy for the next couple of weeks.
I also manage to download Disgaea 3 Media Disc and have all the images from the game, including all cut-in and window art.
Edit - 8/30/2008 3:30 PM -
http://scrawlfx.com/2008/08/disgaea-3-asia...ing-pucellenessAdded:
Classes:
Angel Soldier (Disgaea 1)
Characters:
Prier (La Pucelle)
Tink (Disgaea 2)
Yukimaru (Disgaea 2)
I'm wondering when more characters from games other than Disgaea 2 will start being added to the game.
If you haven't been following, the following classes and characters have been added to Disgaea 3 since DLC began
Classes:
Nekomata (Disgaea)
Characters:
Sergeant Souichirou Kogure (Hayari Gami)
Tarou (Disgaea 2)
Hanako (Disgaea 2)
Adel (Disgaea 2)
Rozalin (Disgaea 2)
I do hope characters outside of Disgaea 2 are added next month. I'm do hope the NIS starts releasing DLC by next month, but I doubt it. I figure Mid-Boss, Zetta, Majorly and such should be added to D3 down the road.
