This is strictly RUMOR. Nothing more. I however would not be surprised to see such a project come to light. When you have such a large cash cow like Halo, you may as well milk it while it's fresh. I doubt I'd bother with the title myself because I don't see why it has to go to third person, but it may be a refreshing change to the series IF it comes to light.

Microsoft Xbox 360 When Red Storm creative director Christian Allen (of
Ghost Recon fame)
joined Bungie last year, we speculated that he'd be working on a
Halo-themed squad game. Lending further credence to our mutagenically induced prescience, EGM's Quartermann rumor column reports that Bungie's first game
post-Microsoft will be a third-person
Halo prequel "chronicling early skirmishes between the ODST troops and the Covenant" (read: no Master Chief). They're not sure if this is the same as Peter Jackson's mysterious Halo project, though it would appear that they're
hiring a team specifically for that. EGM says that Microsoft will be ready to reveal all once the hype-train for
Gears of War 2 has come to a halt.

I think it could be cool. Thats a wicked rumor too. If it does see the light hopefully it's something different than what the Halo games are doing, story wise.

The point is the same as it is for every game. To make money.

Wow really?
I was talking about in the context of the storyline.

How wouldn't it work with the storyline? The universe for the game is huge and you'd be taking the role of a marine, not a Spartan... Probably in a squad like title or in a third person title GoW style. There's plenty of room for any story about your average Halo marine within ANY of the games released so far, or separate from the stories of Master Chief and Halo itself.
I think it'd make plenty of sense.

I suppose what I meant to say is that it seems odd that they would spend time on a normal marine rather than the Spartans since thats what Halo has been about thus far. I suppose it would be in the same vein as something like Star Wars Battlefront where you play as a normal soldier instead of a Jedi.

as long as people will pay for the same game, different name, they will keep making them..wouldnt be suprised

Not a necessary comment, man. You wouldn't think a Peter Jackson helmed Halo project is happening... But it is. There's no reason to dismiss an idea like this.

If you followed the novels recently, apparently the shift of focus is not only the super-soldiers but the ordinary grunts who fight alongside them (see Contact Harvest).

Hmmm, only reason why I would EVER take a game like this seriously would be if it had game mechanics similar to that of Jet Force Gemini (for N64... only GOOD third person shooter I've ever played)
O wait!!!! X-box sucks on all fronts.... forgot about that little fact... mwahahaha.

Hey Theferrell how's hating working out for you...
I'm just curious as to how many 3rd Person shooters you've actually played since the best response you could come up with was Jet Force Gemini. (not the worst game out there, but far from memorable)
Yea Halo seems to be taking the same route as Final Fantasy, Mario, Megaman, etc. Popular franchise status and all. You know something is popular when it has haters.
Personally I'm not anticipating this game, but Halo Wars does look pretty sweet.

Oh the hating is working out quite nicely due to the fact that Play n' Trade won't buy back my bro's X-box since it was opened. Jerks...
