So yah, just an entirely nosey thread here. I went and donated blood for my second time today, and I was wondering how many of you people have done it, or considered it, or even why you wouldn't. Personally both times I've had a great experience with no side effects so I can't really justify to myself why I wouldn't do it. It takes 5 minutes and it could ltierally save someones life. I'm an A Neg, so I'm going in another 4 weeks to give platelets, which i've never done. They're cells in your blood if your O or A that can help cancer and lukemia patients etc, and again, I can't see why I wouldn't go and do that.

So ya, just interested. ^^
Dragon Brigade
I’ve actually never donated blood before...It’s not something I oppose, I just have never done it. >.>.
Pesmerga
I never did and I don't want to.
DxS
I've only given blood once so I could get out of a class I really didn't want to be in.

I have O Negative blood, so they really like me. I might end up donating again sometime. Free cookies are the best.
AbYsS
I tried to donate once. They pricked my fingers twice to test my iron and it was too low so I couldn't give any. I want to try again sometime soon.
My mom gave some but it took so long, something was wrong, and they had to throw away the blood.

Free snacks ftw though
Voyou San
never have and never will..
Death
Given the stuff a few times now. Thursday I will be again. Last time I did, we had a school blood drive. I gave in the morning, ate cookies and drank apple juice with the same 4 people for 5 hours. We were "woozy".

A Pos.
Valince
I don't think I have "enough" blood to give or something like that. I'd have to stay overnight tongue.gif I wouldn't have the energy to walk home.
YourSweet666
Can't say I ever have no, it's something I've thought of though, over time. I'll likely go ahead with it some day soon, I see no reason not to.
Noir
I've just been subjected to several blood tests, so I now have a pretty extreme needle phobia. I do plan on donating quite a bit though.
SpikeJr
We had a whole SE period about this in school a few months back which lasted about two hours, so I know the basics now and even if its just once I probably will give blood at some point because it really does save lives, right now I'm to young to give though.
Markies
I can't.

I have a terrible fear of needles that I couldn't give blood. I never get flue shots and I don't go to doctors because of that fear. So, I don't think I will be giving blood anytime soon.
The Evil Dead
I would. Something tells me they wouldn't want my blood though.

Noble of any one to do so.

So what, I am too. That's just stupid, letting someone die because you're afraid of needles.

We kill people everyday with things that we don't do. Such is life. I'm not the only one. I don't need a guilt trip on what I don't do.

The people who do give blood or anything is a better person than I am. There are other ways of helping people besides giving blood, so I will do one of those things. I could always donate money to a Cancer Research Institute. That is easier for me to do and it's the same thing.
Noir
Indeed, I'm just wondering how someone who seems to actually want to help people is thwarted by a little ass needle, lol.
Death
I get my teeth worked on without Novocain because I HATE NEEDLES.

You ever know what it feels like when they ##### up at the dentist and you don't have Novocain? Yeah.

Donating blood, with the needle used, it doesn't hurt. I don't look at them while they put it in, and all I feel is as if a bug just bit me.

Quit your bitching
Bubble
I donated blood for the first time the other week. It hurt, I felt faint and got left with a bruise, but its all for a good cause =). I'm not overly sure about organ donation so I figure I can at least donate blood.

In an ideal world everyone would be doing it, but of course not everyone agrees with it or wants to, which is fine. Its easy to say you are afraid of needles, but, realistically, who the hell does want a needle poking through their skin?! I certainly don't, but I just got on with it. I imagine I will continue doing it.
Mushroom
Thanks for the responses guys ^^ The plan wasn't to inflict anyone with a guilt trip haha, just to see what your stances are on it, and maybe put the idea in your head if you've never really thought about it before. Alot of people I know, simply don't do it because they literally have never thought of doing it or considered it, and when you say about it to them, they're like "oh, I never even considered it before".

On the needle thing, I personally hate them, but just like bubble said, is there anyone who actually likes getting needles stuck in them? XD Welll....in this sense anyway XD. Point is, its not nice, but the pros far outweigh the cons for me.
Dr Whippy
Kinda sad to see so many people say no mainly cus they just don't want to.
That said, I haven't donated blood yet, was going to last month actually but turns out you gotta book a time to do initial tests and stuff, who knew =P

I should really organise myself and do it though, the olds tell me that I have a really rare blood type like mum. It's not like I won't make more of it anyway.
True Rune
I haven't, but I'm sure I will someday.

Haha, that comment is just funny. What do you think is worse? A guy being afraid of needles and therefore terrified about giving blood, or soldiers killing innocent people?
Seriously, I think your comment is well out of place here.

Edit:

Oh, there are people that like getting needles poked in their skin, though for other reasons. So, that kinda of takes away points made earlier.

>_>

I tried to donate blood, but they asked for my social security number. I don't remember it, and I don't carry around the card, and there's absolutely no reason as to why they should want it anyway, so I ended up leaving before I could donate blood, since they wouldn't let me without an SS#. It's seriously ridiculous.

When I was a little kid in Soviet Russia, my parents couldn't afford to pay for novacaine, so I had my teeth drilled without any anesthetic, at all. Dude, the needle is so much better than any of that, seriously. While I have no problems with needles, I do have a problem with things being put in the back of my throat, especially sharp things, and I'll take a needle in the back of my throat for a second rather than half an hour of my teeth being drilled without any sort of anesthetic.
Souls
To the people who never have and never will, why?

I used to have that kind of attitude. Never have and never will! Then a friend of mine talked me into it. I was so nervous, because seeing large amounts of blood, or even my own blood makes me sick to my stomach. Nevertheless, I did it, and it went extremely well. I found out I have O Positive blood. After giving blood the first time, I couldn't stand up or walk and I was pure white, my lips and everything. I had to lay down for a half an hour before I was allowed to leave and even after that I was dizzy.
Valince
I don't. not afraid of needles either. Doesn't hurt like say having a 4inch needle jammed in your gum line at the dentist tongue.gif.

It's because you're a Ginger and you're contagious.

Anyhow. I wanted to donate blood, but I don't weigh enough to do so. As it is when the doctors have to draw blood from me I'm prone to fainting and such.

Ah, maybe when I grow up.

I totally missed this, lol. That was a joke. People at Dreamers are so easy to ##### with, I don't know if it's the culture difference or what.

But no, I think someone not donating blood is worse. Soldiers killing innocent people isn't that bad, it's just like GTA and Pokemans.
Raincoat
I don't.
First off, they won't let me because of my tattoo and several other factors. I actually tried once when my school was having a blood drive.
Second, I most likely wouldn't anyways in the future if they let me. I can barely have my blood drawn for checking for diseases and whatnot. The doctors hate drawing my blood. My veins suck, and I go into shock afterward and am completely useless for a few hours. Silly endorphins don't work =)
Needles... ugh.

Yeah, I'm a sissy.

And I know several people who do like needles stuck in them. Acupuncture, anybody?
Dr Whippy
Ok so i've finally given blood now, and i'm b pos - which is only 8% of the nation so it's good i'm giving I guess. My girlfriend nearly passed out, she couldn't feel her arms and went all white so they had to stop taking her blood about half way through. I think it's cus she didn't have much to drink before hand though O_o
We had to do a questionnaire about recent medical history but nothing else.
Servant Saber
I donated blood my second-to-last week of basic training with the Air Force. It was the first time for me, and to be honest, I have a deathly fear of needles. Of course, I changed my mind when I was told the blood would be diverted straight to the frontlines in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Not pleasant, but hey..
-Vincent-
I donated once in high school because we were given two days free from school.

Donating blood from time to time is good for donors as well. Something about cleansing the system and new, fresh blood being generated. I'm not really sure.
Gemini_Bloodian
O- Blood. So... yeah.

I've donated blood once or twice before and I though little of it. I didn't do it out of moral righteousness or anything, far from it; I guess I just felt: "They're here, I get a cookie, it helps saves lives, What the hell!"

Gemini_Bloodian
The Evil Dead
They don't like evil stoner blood.
Rhadamanthus
I'm not allowed to donate blood, so I don't. Obviously.
Bomb
Type AB+, so they don't tend to let me because it's pretty rare, so it likely won't be accepted by the person needing blood, and people who DO have it are "the universal recipient" anyway, meaning they can take any kind of blood into them without a big deal or something. Or so they explained to me in high school.
Orpheus
I did it once, it was for the cookie. I could care less about the people who needed it, I wanted me a cookie.
