QUOTE (Yahoo Movies)
What happens when a wisecracking, homeless, alcoholic superhero meets a determined PR exec? Hancock, who just saved the life of idealistic Ray Embrey, is about to find out. Embrey is determined to rehabilitate the down-and-out Hancock, clean up his image, and make him into a true hero the world can adore. Embrey's wife Mary, on the other hand, isn't so sure it's a worthy endeavor, particularly when Hancock starts hitting on her in the midst of his big comeback. The "Big Blue Boy Scout" he ain't.
Basically, Will Smith and Jason Bateman in a superhero movie. I'm sure you've seen the commercials. If you went to see Jumper, you saw the trailer (honestly, best part of the whole experience >_>;), though the title may have been different. I'm interested in this, Will Smith is pretty solid in my book, and Jason Bateman is alright. It's a pretty good time to release a movie like this, considering the slew of superhero movies that've been coming out in the last couple of years (all the Spiderman flicks, Superman Returns, the new Hulk movie, the old Hulk movie, Iron Man, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight [which comes out only a week after this]), and the trailers make this look very promising.
I don't know, I may be building this up, so if this is a disappointment, I'll be very upset, but obviously, I'm not thinking it will be.

I saw the trailer of this, it does look like a movie I'd enjoy. I'll wait till it comes out in the theatres over here. Most likely that I will see it.

Uwe Boll catches ##### but when the " summer blockbuster " movie hits each year I don't hear anyone bitching.
Looks like a mainstream attempt to be clever. Should be great times.

I think the idea itself of a hobo-superhero makes it worth watching.

I'm not usually into parody movies (except Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) but I do have an interest in this (Will Smith is in it, so it must be good (although I can't say I liked I Am Legend)). Hopefully will get around to seeing it in theaters.

Shawn of the Dead is hardly a parody, neither was Hot Fuzz really. I think you're misinterpreting the word parody for a movie that's basically a humorous version of a particular genre. Parodies are self referential, sometimes nonsensial, and have very little actual seriousness to their plot or whatever, rather than mockery of the seriousness: Shawn and Hot Fuzz both had plots that took themselves seriously and were funny while doing it. It's quite the same with Hancock, etc.
Parodies are basically movies like Airplane!, anything Monty Python, Scary Movie, Spaceballs, etc.
Eh, I'm just saying.

Shaun and Hot Fuzz stand on their own and definitely have some satirical moments that poke at the genre and shows tribute to other films but they're definitely not parody films.

When I saw Narnia yesterday, I saw a preview for this as well. Originally when I was reading this topic I didn’t know what my thoughts were, but after seeing a preview I’m sort of interested in it now. Not sure yet if I’ll go so far as to see it in theaters, but I’d imagine I’ll try checking it out at some point in time.

I saw this movie. Twice, actually, not because I liked it so much that it warranted a second viewing in theaters, which like, no movie is. But I sort of promised a girl that I was going to see it with her, and my friends dragged me to see it with them before she came back and this isn't important. Either way.
There's a bothersome genre shift near the middle of the movie and the hobo thing wasn't as prominent as it was made out to be in the trailers. It's still amusing, mostly in the first half, in the second half becoming more run of the mill superhero movie, though props for making up their own mythology and stuff.

Just came from watching it and must say, I enjoyed the flick. It has some cheap laughs and most of them are the ones you see on the trailers. I dont think this is a superhero movie, it was pitched like that in the trailer but its actually sort of a character study and it showcases how feelings and relationships work although it felt it needed a bit more screen time.
Funny thing, I dont know if this is a spoiler but just in case dont read unless you want to:
I thought the kid that gets thrown up by Hancock was a girl but its actually a french little #####. It made me feel good to watch the little french prick get thrown by Hancock. ##### french.

From what I heard, the title of the movie is fitting. But maybe it's not that bad. I was going to see it a few days ago, but forgot about it. I think I'll watch it soon though. If anything, it'll at least be good for a laugh.

Well will smith is the king of the 4th so no surprise that its a decent movie I am going to see it and I most likely will like it but I am not in any rush looking more forward to seeing Hellboy II and of course the Dark Knight.

For all people interested in this movie, the trailer does the movie no justice. The trailer points it out as a superhero comedy flick, but isn't anything like that at all.
This movie is much more melodramatic than I expected. There are some jokes here and there and they do made me laugh, but I wasn't expecting quite a serious story. In my opinion a good surprise and I enjoyed this movie, although it maybe could've used some more fighting. I mean, we see a few fight scenes, but most end in 20 seconds or so. It could've used longer, or more fightscenes.
However, they created their own history, which is pretty nifty. I also agree with Raz, that guy that gets launched into the air was funny. Stupid French ###### x'D. Ahs hohl, or however he pronounces Arsehole =P.

This movie was ok. It's a one time see movie and it's not worth seeing it in the theaters. It wasn't even that funny except one scene in the kitchen.

I am actually going to see this tomorrow, the adverts and the hour show making of Hancock looked pretty swish. Hope it lives up to expectations.

meh wasn't crazy about the movie. I think Will Smith's past his prime in his "kickass" days such as Men in Black, Wild Wild West, and Independance Day.
It was entertaining I guess, I found the special effects to look really fake almost, like when he was flying and whatever, that wasn't something I was expecting. And the villain in the movie sucked, and just something about it wasn't GREAT. i cant explain.

Again? My main problem with I Am Legend is that the zombies looked really unnatural, especially the way they moved.
I guess I'll check this one out on DVD or something.

Haha, the villain wasn't great? I think you missed the whole point of the movie, LW. It is not about Hancock fighting badguys and such. It is about Hancock finding out who he is and facing the consequences of the choices he makes.
As I said before, this is a melodramatic movie and this is something the trailer doesn't justify.
The trailer makes it look as some comedy hero flick, but it is the complete opposite. Hancock isn't even considered a hero, but is hated by the people.
It has nothing to do with a "villain", silly LW xD.

Nono i know, but I just thought the PREMISE of hte movie that they were SPOILERS
Thousands of years old, former lovers, etc etc. I expected like, lots of old history stuff to come back to haunt them and whatever. such as old villains, old scientists, etc But it just didn't pan out. I guess an idea for the sequel lmao

Jul 13 2008, 05:53 AM
That is indeed a thing they could have implemented in the movie, but I believe the focus point is what I said.
So, to do things, as you said would make things too much, as we would have two, or more things to focus on.
Maybe they would have gone for a sequel, but so far it got pretty bad reviews. In my opinion, this was a pretty solid movie, but whatever.
And on the digital effects note: IT IS NOT SMITH'S FAULT, IF THE GRAPHICS ARE BAD, OR NOT! He doesn't do the digital effects, so saying that you won't watch the movie, until it is out on DVD, is saying, I don't want to play Final Fantasy VI, because the graphics don't look good.

How is that comparison the same? Maybe if you had said I'd skip paying money to play FF6 on a super giant 200 inch wide screen because the graphics weren't impressive, but rather save my money and buy it later to play on my TV.
I'm saying that I won't pay for a 10 dollar movie ticket to see special effects that look crap, but rather rent or borrow the DVD later. And I never said that the graphics are Will Smith's fault. Where did you get that idea? lol
