I think I have posted about this before, but I'm not sure.

But Do you think the summons should have a side plot?

I mean a more in depth side plot for the summons.

Usually they don't have much plot accept Ramuh(spelling) and Mog in FFIX

Also... I because a total fan boyish when I saw Ifrit talked about shiva in FFVIII(just one line).

I was like Oh My GOSH!

But then the rest of the game didn't even mention a thing at all ._. sad.

So do you think should there be plots about them? =p

Edit : Oh and Odin being destroyed by seifer and that gimalashehfshjfhsndjk(useless guy)'s defeating seifer is not considered okay lol.

It would have been nice to know where Summons, GF's , come from in each game and what their purposes were. FFX did so that was cool.
Nash
I seem to recall 2 having some kind of side quest to obtaining the summons... then we had Rydia in 4.

It's quite obvious that the summons in 6, 8, 9 and 10 played a major part in shaping the plot, right? Individually they don't have much, but collectively the Espers, Guardian Forces, Eidolons and Aeons do have large impact on the respective games' main plot.

Ivalice's summons also have a sort-of main plot surrounding them in FFT, too.
Theferrell
Ya, they usually "explained" a little about how espers/summons came to be.... but never had a "backstroy" as to how humans could control them.... MAYBE it would be cool to create a game that went into that.... maybe.

And Nash, the spanish phrase for your sig should read: No me llamo Nash. FYI

I think it really depends on the Summon.

Some would have some great stories while others are pretty one-dimensional. Like Ifrit wouldn't be rather interesting, but somebody like Anima would be cool to have a backstory.

I would like a little more in-depth in them as characters. Having them waiting in a cave to be recruited seems kind of cliched. It would be more interesting that you would have to prove yourself worthy of having the summon besides beating a dungeon or a boss. Like, mix the good/evil asthetic of fable and if you are good, you only get the good summons while the same works with the evil side.

i think it would be a very cool little bit of information to learn about, as i am sure a lot of them could have some pretty interesting backstory.
YourSweet666
Wouldn't hurt to learn a bit about some of the summons, they are basically characters themselves so tghey should have some story to them. Though, they've played a part in several games already, mostly FF IV and VI.
Pesmerga
I think the Espers in XII had a background story. Something about Ultima taking over the world or something... kinda odd. I read on Wikipedia some time ago, but can't find it anymore.
Chalryn
FFX and XII probably touched on this idea the most. X had the whole Aeon/Fayth thing going on, though I personally think they could've done a bit more with that than they did. (Not that I have anything in particular in mind.) As Pes said, the Espers in XII do have a sort of background, though you never really hear about any of it unless you bother to read their pages in the bestiary.

I guess VI had somewhat of a background for the Espers, though, again, I'm sure they could do something more with the ideas used in that. Actually, if they'd take the idea of a main character being related directly to the summons (like Terra), I think that could definitely open up the opportunity to get a really involved story about the summons. I'd like to see something like this, but even without much of a background, I like just having the mythological references and such.
Noir
Yes, I think they should have plots. It's boring how it's just like, "Here's a big monster, summon it whenever you want, later".
The Evil Dead
There's a lot of the Espers/Summons whatever you want to call them in the 6th. They play a major part of the story.
Theferrell
True that TED. If you ever want backstories on espers, you need to check out the strategy guides. They have backstories on all espers... but I digress...

I would like to see Summons more useful in boss battles. The summons were GREAT in FFVII and 9, but not as much in 10... and A LOT LESS in 12. I rarely used my summons in 12 because my stupid summoner kept getting Jacked in the battles I wanted to use them in... They helped me out ONCE and that was when I was going for that stupid mark that kept spawning skeletons in the marsh area... that's about it.

Summons = goodness, just want to see them used more...
Noir
They were pitiful in XII. I remember fighting Zodiark, pain in the ass fight, but once I got him I was like "This is going to kick ass". So I summon it, and it dies with in 2 minutes.

But VII did have some great summons, like Hades and Knights of the Round.
marushio
Well, some of my favourite FF had the main story centered on the summons, but I'm ok if not. But, either way, summons are always a strong and important part of FF games and world, so I think they should explain their origins/role, be by sidequest or sidestory.

FFXII, for instance, had interasting background for the summons in the bestiary, however the summons itself were nothing worthy of the title "summon". Seriously, for things that defied the gods, they sure are weak! ohboy.gif

LOLS, I totally forgot they existed until now.

But yeah, they did play a major part in the storyline, but in the other or future games I would love to see more use of the Espers and Summons as actual side characters of the story. Pretty much along the lines of Ramuh in FFix, but with the others as well.

I don't even know what summons were like in FFXII, but it sounds disappointing that they weren't really useful much. :\ FFX had interesting summon-character relationships, but really only with Yuna since she was summoning them. @_@

Only Valfore(Spelling) anyways The Jumping summon in mid air scene was awesome.

Sigh.. Shiva Ifrit ._.

Despise the fact that only Yuna can summon, the sumon-character relationshiop and summon battle of X is the best in the whole series!!! <3

I've never really bothered to open the bestiary in XII, so because of that I'm missing out on a bit of their back story. I don't really mind them in XII, but they are kind of useless. They used to be alright when I used them early on in the game, but after a while they just become kind of pointless. They're still cool in my opinion, but their value is almost negligible. Quickenings are much more effective for what they're worth.

The only other game I've played in any length was IX, and even then I didn't see much on Espers/Summons. Got to disc two, and I think they were only really mentioned once (or maybe it was just one summon that kept being brought up. I honestly don't remember, it's been a while since I've touched on that game.).

It's be nice if they put more into the summons. Being able to have them for battles and whatnot is nice, but it's even better to have a point to them being there other than for tradition's sake. >.>.

Well, there's a bckground story about how the summons wen't um agains the Undying (gods), seemed an interesting story, but isn't narrated very deeply, just the bckground of each one of them and their punishment for their arrogance.

As for battle, it's just insane waht you've got to go through to aquire a summon, and it's just not worth it!!

I was lost for hours in that Crystal Maze from HELL untill I've bumped into Ultima (I didn't knew it would be there, although I had a feeling that there should be a summon there), battling it was one of the hardest -- if not the hardest -- battle I've fough! After much suffering (I was always at the brink of anihilation!!) I won and of course was crazy to test it out! And this one really did nothing! NOTHING AT ALL!!!

Only later I've found that Ultima's gambits only activate if both the Summoner and Ultima are on Critical! It's suposed to havy a really strong special, but seriously, it's just too hard to activate it and waaaaaaayyyyyyyy too risky!!
