Great, good job. Keep ruining good movies. No way they will be able to capture the graphic imagery of the original movie DX

Hard to be positive when one of the rumored actresses' biggest roles was " Superbad (2007) .... Period Blood Girl "

I'll still be sitting through every grueling moment of it. I really don't mind Joseph Gordon-Levitt at all. I enjoy the work he's done in both the mainstream and indie circuit. I'm also interested in seeing how Ruairi Robinson is going to handle an adaptation of this magnitude with his own style and affinity for sci-fi.

Why can't they get japanese actors to be doing this stuff? I mean there are japanese americans who are acting, or at least people who can pass off as japanese.

I'm not sure if I ever saw Akira, at least not in its entirety, but I just have to say that anime should stay anime. Maybe CG, which is still animated anyway. I don't care what a person does with a particular anime title; a real-life adaptation will never live up to the original anime, and I think I can say that quite confidently... for most anime titles, at least. I'm sure there're a few out there that could get decent adaptations, but for the most part, as I already said: anime should stay anime.

I doubt we'll get any big names... If anything Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be Kineda. I just don't see any big names showing up on here but just some familiar Hollywood faces ( IE Clancy Brown ). I don't see them paying whatever Leo's salary is for what could be a potential bomb.
I mean unless Leo is a die hard Akira fan and is willing to sacrifice his 20 mil a film or something.

i dont know if you can say that.. i mean big name actors do Uwe Bowl films which are auto bombs. If the studio thinks the big actor will help sell their movie, they will shell out for them

it wouldn't really work, akira had to much going on to put into a live action movie, the sort of violence and awesomeness that can only be shown in anime. i think it will crash for the same reason SPEED RACER! crashed. it was too old an anime to attract the younger movie-goers, and the people who actually watched the original, and enjoyed it, will simply go, wow, way to hop on the bandwagon. you just raped my childhood memories.

Well to be fair, Speed Racer is an implied homosexual. I mean look at those pants, even in the 70s no one wore their pants that tight.

have you seen any led zeppelin live vids? robert plant wears pants so tight you can see outlines of... things. and it's based off an anime, there had to be a bit of that over the top stuff in it.

LOL, So true, that just goes to show you on how weird the time period was back then. Though I must say that time period is more intriguing than the eighties, everyone overhypes the eighties.

Kanye West's Stronger video had a clip right out of Akira. Kanye is walking down a hall in a hospital/asylum, wearing a hospital gown with bandages around his head, staggering against the wall. It's ascene where Tetsuo tries to escape, and just goes insane. It's a pretty good rendition, I thought. I could instantly tell where it was from.
Anyway, I'm... going to see how this plays out. I'm not excited about it, but I'm not totally turned off either. This has a chance (albeit a small one) to be good. Here's hoping.

FORMER big name actors and maybe some minorly well known ones ( Jason Statham, I guess. ) do Uwe Boll films, for money. He isn't associatd with Hollywood and privately produces all his own films.
Leo will not commit career suicide, the studio will not be spending a huge budget on what could potentially be a bomb. The only possible way I see him involved is maybe as a producer or extremely unlikely, acting in the film because he's a die hard fan.
Your expectations had best be very low.
