Eternal Sonata PS3 Not Coming to US
06.04.08 - 11:11 AM
Speaking to videogaming247, a Namco Bandai Games America representative said his company currently had no intention to release the PlayStation 3 version of Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume in Japan) in North America. While this statement certainly is no definite confirmation yet, it is possible that the PlayStation 3 version of Eternal Sonata will suffer a fate similar as the PlayStation 2 release of Tales of Symphonia. The PlayStation 2 port of the highly popular GameCube title has never made it out of Japan.
Eternal Sonata for PlayStation 3 will hit Japanese retail store shelves sometime later this year.
SourceThat's a real shame because it's a quality RPG which the PS3 desperately needs - I'm not sure on how well that bodes for a western release of a PS3 version of Tales Of Vesperia in the future either. Makes me feel very lucky I own both consoles.

Tbh I was never really holding my breath over a stateside release of this one, I hoped it would but I think Namco have already shown their true colours regarding remake releases numerous times before. Suppose it just makes me picking up the 360 version in the sale that much more of a bargain now. Here's hoping that the Tales fans might be able to kick up enough of a stink to get the supposed PS3 version, there's absolutely no question about me picking up ToV (360) on launch now.

it is unfortunate to see yet another RPG thats not making it stateside but releasing in japan... I dont see why they wouldnt do it, the game was already made in english for the 360 so it cant take that much effort to get it in english for the ps3..
oh well, was never that interested in playing this, i just want a PS3 RPG badly...

Here's an actual updated Videogaming247 article -
QUOTE ('Videogaming247')
Namco Bandai US has told videogaming247 that as far as it’s aware, the PS3 version of tri-Crescendo’s JRPG Eternal Sonata won’t make it out of Japan.
“I can’t speak for any other territories, but I believe Eternal Sonata is only announced for the PS3 in Japan right now,” said the spokesperson.
“We have no plans to release the game on the PS3 in the US at this moment.”
We reported earlier that there was “no news” as far as this title is concerned. Well, now there is some.
By Mike Bowden
"At this moment" sounds promising enough. It could be that Namco simply isn't allowed to speak of a future PS3 version in the West if there's a timed exclusivity in effect.

Admittedly, I wasn't all that interested in Eternal Sonata from the getgo, however, this really does start to beg the question of which console really will be the RPG-dominant console in the coming years. With Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia currently slated to be Xbox 360 exclusives, it's starting to look like I'm going to need both a PS3 and Xbox360 in the future. x_x

there will be plenty on both fences..
PS3 still holds the cards for Valkryia Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Final Fantasy XII and Versus, and White Knight Story.. so they are going to have good looking RPG's coming out, its just taking them a bit longer.

Hopefully the same fate will befall to PS3's ports of Star Ocean 4 and The Last Remnant?
Timed exclusive on 360 equals no NA release for PS3?

I remember I was so pissed that they were adding more characters to the PS3 version that I decided not to buy the game for the 360 at all. I'm still not going to either

. This doesn't surprise me either. The game was success when it came out right? I guess the devs felt like being an #####.

Bandai Namco Games announced that its Xbox 360 RPG Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume (Eternal Sonata in the US) will be available for PlayStation 3 in Japan in mid-September. More than a year has passed since the game's release on the Xbox 360 in Japan, but the developers have apparently used this time to make significant changes to the game. As previously reported, two new playable characters, a new quest and the option to change a character's outfit had already been confirmed to be part of the PlayStation 3 release's feature set. Further improvements announced today include a new dungeon, a revised scenario with multiple endings as well as new songs by pianist Stanislav Bunin and composer Motoi Sakuraba.

Aww...

I was really looking forward to this release too, as I didn't want to get the X-Box 360 one finding out that the PS3 one will have more features in it than the X-Box 360's version. Well if it doesn't get localised, I'm going to import it.

NAMCO BANDAI GAMES ANNOUNCES ETERNAL SONATA™ FOR THE PLAYSTATION®3 SYSTEM
Award-Winning Role-Playing Game Arrives on the PLAYSTATION 3 System with New Playable Characters and Quests
Santa Clara, Calif., (July 15, 2008) – Leading video games publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., today announced Eternal Sonata™ for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. An award-winning role-playing game inspired by the life of legendary composer Frederic Chopin, Eternal Sonata is set to arrive on the PLAYSTATION 3 system this fall with new quests, new playable characters, new music and more.
A unique role-playing experience, Eternal Sonata lets gamers travel with 19th century composer Frederic Chopin as he explores a magical dream world during his final hours among the living. Utilizing a breathtaking cel-shaded graphics engine that gives form to the ethereal beauty of Chopin’s music, the game transports players to a vivid world inhabited by brave heroes, fearsome monsters and stunning environments. The game’s fast-paced battle system features an innovative “light and dark” mechanic which allows players to execute different special attacks depending on whether they stand in light or shadow, and transforms enemies into new and fearsome forms. Combining turn-based and real-time elements, this system allows for creative strategy and engaging action in each encounter, breaking new ground in the role-playing genre.
Originally released for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Eternal Sonata arrives on the PLAYSTATION 3 system with a wide selection of new game content, and new cut-scenes and features. The game’s roster of playable characters expands with the addition of Serenade and Crescendo, and players can now customize the look of members of their party with a variety of new outfits. Players can also enjoy several all-new dungeons, and even experience different endings.
Critically acclaimed upon its original 2007 release, Eternal Sonata was selected as “Best Role-Playing Game” by GameTrailers.com and received “Best Artistic Design” honors from IGN.com at E3 2007. The game was also chosen as a runner-up in the role-playing game category at the Spike TV 2007 Video Game Awards.
Eternal Sonata will launch for the PLAYSTATION 3 this fall and is currently available in stores for the Xbox 360. For more information, please visit eternalsonata.namcobandaigames.com.

I recently picked up this game again ( got some Bonus Dungeon Achievements

) and I had forgotten how beautiful the game looks. I also really enjoy the soundtrack. I will say however that the battles due tend to get a bit repetitive (you button mash a lot), but I still had fun while playing through the game. I doubt I would get the game again, but what exactly was the added content?

Crescendo and Serenade are playable characters in the PS3 version. Another new feature is the ability to change the characters clothes. I don't know what else there is though, since the scan wasn't translated when I found it. There's probably more info to be found now.

Looks like I'll be giving this a miss until the price comes down. In october, I'll already be picking up dead space and bioshock for def, with games like LBP, farcry 2, legendary, Golden Axe, SOCOM, Motorstorm and fracture all also on my list depending on my $ situation, and thats not even mentioning the sheer amount right around the corner come november; this is simply at the bottom of a very long list. It looks good though and got good reviews first time round, so I'm sure I'll be happy with the bargain when I get it later and cheaper.

Info:
On October 17, 1948, Frederic Chopin, one of the most influential composers for the piano, succumbed to sickness and died at the young age of 39. Three hours prior to that, in the world according to this RPG, Chopin saw a dream of a fairy-tale land populated by people with incurable diseases but also magical powers. Eternal Sonata takes place in this dream world. Chopin comes into contact with Polka, a young girl who resides with her mother in the village of Tenuto. Polka is near her death, and Chopin, Polka, and her young friend Allegretto as they look for some way to make use of Polka's great powers to help save her. It's a whimsical fantasy, but this RPG designed by developer tri-Crescendo also a complex and combo-based battle system of swords and magic weaponry. In keeping with inspiration, music and story play a big part in Eternal Sonata.
