SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - A Sheboygan man is behind bars after being arrested twice for drunken driving within two hours early Tuesday. Police say the 24-year-old driver was stopped by an officer about 1:50 a.m. after he was spotted driving the wrong way on a one-way street in Sheboygan.

The man was arrested, cited for driving drunk and released to his brother about 3 a.m. at the police station.

Police say about 40 minutes later, an officer saw the same man, driving the same vehicle at 20 mph over the 30-mph speed limit.

He was pulled over and cited again for operating while intoxicated. This time he was taken to the Sheboygan County Detention Center.

Now, I've been drunk plenty of ... well ... let's just say I'm drunk rolleyes.gif, but I have never been arrested for a DUI. I don't understand why laws on drunk driving are not much stricter in PREVENTION rather than DETERRMENT, because it's pretty ##### obvious from reading this story, that fines are not enough to deter some stupid-ass drunks from getting behind the wheel.

Trust me, alcoholics will drink themselves into oblivion without giving a ##### about responsibilty. The only thing a hardcore drunk is concerned about is getting more alcohol of choice --- he/she could care less for a designated driver.

When will the law realize that some ppl just CAN'T hold thier liquor? It's not going to change, and it's a danger to us all.

Ugh, hate hate hate when people do this. Sad thing is I know plenty of people who drive while either drunk, stoned or both. A few of those 'plenty of people' are my cousins nocomment.gif They even brag that they're better drivers because they're "concentrating more".... It shouldn't take a drunken driving idiot to kill someone in order to learn their lesson, they should already know.
Theferrell
Drinking = bad.... once the general public knows this, we won't have problems like this...
Noir
Drinking is bad is just as much a matter of opinion as "Pink is pretty".
Voyou San
not a big fan of the drink, makes people even dumber than they already are, but to each his own.

Though how many more drunk driving accidents do we have to have until we come up with stricter laws. DUI should carry a stiffer penalty than it already does, get these idiots off the road.

It's bad for you physically, it's bad for you mentally and financially unless you can somehow get it for free. I'd say it's much more then just an opinion, unless there are any benefits to drinking... is there any?

....Eh, I could say the exact same thing about junk food rolleyes.gif I guess it's just a matter of handling it properly.
Noir
Yeah, there are. And many people think the effects are worth the downside.

Noir

Yes, there are health benefits to drinking in moderation. It's been proven that a couple glasses of red wine with dinner can actually reduce your risk of heart attack and extend your life.

Of course, that's not my 'idea' of moderation --- I don't EVER think I've had enough until I'm physically incapable of grabbing another bottle rolleyes.gif. The only benefits I'm interested in are the dizzy tingles. Still, as much as I drink, I have never had the desire to put my life or someone else's life in danger by getting behind the wheel.

If I'm short a beer in the 12-pack, I usually just risk a public intox. ticket by walking down to the corner gas station.

Ugh, wine's disgusting.... What about midori? tongue.gif

I always have respect for the 'sober drivers' of parties.

This is why you smoke pot and don't drink.

This guy is clearly an idiot. I'd say the whole situation has more to do with his IQ than throwing a few back.

Grape Juice does the same thing.

Yes, it does .... but .... throwing back a cup of Welchs grape juice is not as tasty or satsifying as nice mellow glass of Mad Dog 20/20 laugh.gif ... or you know, Merlot or something ....

I'm guessing that your distaste for drinking also comes from your Mormon belief? I know that Utah has the strictest, most goofy drinking laws of any state in union.

We really need to get drunk / stoned / drunk & stoned / whatever drivers off these roads. It's getting really bad because so many lives are being lost and so many people are getting seriously injured. In a nearby town from where I live a little girl was killed by a drunk driver. Things like this really make me angry. A little girl being killed because of some dumbass. Personally, I don't drink or smoke anything. I don't see the point in it, but that's just me. I don't have a problem with people smoking and drinking whatever they want because I believe in personal freedom but if you're going to do it at least be responsible about it and please don't put someone else's life in danger. That's all I ask.
The Evil Dead
There's already laws against drunk driving... What more do you want? How do you propose we " get them off the streets " ? When there's penalties already for driving drunk if you're caught. There's not much more we can do as a society outside of have laws and common sense and maybe a good friend who can say " Hey man, you shouldn't drive tonight. ". Unfortunately as a society the majority of our members lack that wonderful thing known as common sense.

As for driving stoned you'll find little correlation with drunk driving. I've been driving stoned for nearly 8 years, and in fact I'm pretty much stoned all day every day ( I'm not trying to say it's " Cool " Or whatever, so don't pull that card on me, thanks. ) and my driving stoned is just as good as my driving sober.

Sorry. Gotta break out the stoner defense. I think you'd have a hard time finding any pot related car accidents at all, or at least to the level of drunk driving accidents.
Nocinderella
I still wouldn't trust a stoned driver to be honest, I know that being stoned and being drunk are 2 different things, but you're still not 'sober' when you're stoned if you get me happy.gif but meh, that's just my opinion. Even though you're probably right TED, I'll still never get in the car with a wasted driver.
The Evil Dead
You wouldn't even know I was stoned unless I told you.

I've also never been pulled over by a cop while driving, and I often smoke pot while I drive. :: shrug :: It really doesn't mess with your mental mechanics enough to have any effect on your motor skills as alcohol does.

But whatever though. If you don't feel like getting in a car with a stoner, then I guess you shouldn't.

It's moments like this that remind me why I'm an outcast to society though simply because of a simple life choice that doesn't hold any impact on others.

Er... Sorry... Got me going off on another tangent. tongue.gif
Nocinderella
Haha outcast for being a stoner? Just move to NZ and you'll fit right in happy.gif I'm an outcast for being a non drinker/smoker/stoner sad.gif Where's the love for the 24/7 sober people?
The Evil Dead
Haha. Maybe it's just where I live then. tongue.gif

I got love for sober people. <3 Whatever floats your boat.
Finn
I don't think you're an outcast TED. Like I said I don't judge people. I guess there really is nothing more we can do but that little girl getting run over really upset me that's all.

Red bull/Lift Plus and junk food <3

Peacelover87: I'd be really upset by that too, just the stupidity and the unfairness of it. I'm lucky that where I live, we don't have a huge problem with it. Cops usually patrol the roads around my area, there's an abundance of taxis and there's always a sober driver to rely on if you're partying, or everyone else usually walks home with a buddy or group. Not to mention we have a heck load of 'If you drink, then drive, you're a bloody idiot' ads on tv.
Hugo
I agree with TED on the stoned driving thing. I've driven stoned more often than I can count. I've never hit anyone and up until recently I had a clean driving record.

I did get a DUI, and what pisses me off about it, I wasn't that drunk. You know why I was pulled over? "A ciggarrette butt flew out the window." Not swerving, not speeding, a ##### ciggarrette. That's pretty much fishing, which is pretty much harrassment.

I've driven drunk a lot, there are times I've driven where I KNOW I should not have been behind a wheel. Plenty of times actually, I just wish I was at that point when I got slammed. I mean if you're gonna do something do it right, right?

As for the penalties, make them stricter? They are already strict enough, you wouldn't believe how much of a pain in the arse it is to not be able to drive when you live in a area that lacks mass transit and whatnot. How hard it is to find good work, and how much it sets the common person back financially. The laws are strict enough, if not too strict in my opinion.

I know someone's could say "you could have hurt someone!" and trust me when I tell you that would not have happened, but also know that I'm not saying hey, go drink and drive! I know people that have been killed by drunk drivers, but I also know quiet a few people that have been killed by sober drivers. *shrugs*
J-5
I've never driven stoned or drunk, but having my experience with both (and much more sadly) I can safely say that I would gladly be in a car driven by a stoner over a drunk ANY DAY.

Once again, I'm not from Utah....

I also am strongly against drinking/drugs/smoking because I'm an athlete. I have heard about buddies of mine going to other universities and having their teammates totally hung-over when they went to Monday Practice. Drinking and drugs totally mess up your athletic ability when you're in heavy competition in college and stuff, so I never wanted to do that stuff anyway.

Also, our theological belief about health (known as the Word of Wisdom) stems from our belief that our bodies are like temples (they should be clean on the outside and inside) so we shouldn't take stuff in that could damage our bodies and impair our sense of judgement. This also means moderation for normal foods so you can be healthy, wealthy and wise smile.gif.
(more on it... http://www.mormon.org/mormonorg/eng/basic-...word-of-wisdom

@Nocinderella: Don't worry about being an outcast because you don't drink or smoke, I'm more of one because I have NEVER drank alcohol or smoked anything.
The Evil Dead
I hope you don't enjoy Reeses Pieces, then.

or Mountain Dew, you must surely hate that stuff.
