Some more information has made its way to PlayStationLifeStyle.net…
Whether or not this information is true is unknown. However we felt it is our duty to give fans a heads up on a HUGE announcement that MAY be coming @ E3.
Please take this as a rumor as that’s all it is at this point. No solid information on the subject yet.
From what I have been told, Microsoft is looking to pay Capcom an undisclosed amount, for timed exclusivity of Resident Evil 5. It is still not known if Capcom has accepted the offer… The information we got, was only that Microsoft has made the offer.
If this is going to be announced it will be @ E3. Similar to the GTAIV “showing of the tattoo” a couple of years ago.
If this is true, all of you petition fanatics out there better get to work.
Remember this is just a rumor, and nothing is known for sure at this time.
Personally I am hoping that this is NOT true.

Oh dear. If it turns out to be true then I feel sorry for the Sony fans that will miss out of this gem. It won't bother me either way as I will have both systems in the future. I doubt it would be true anyway as they would probably make more having it on both consoles.

it would still come out for both systems, it would just be a timed exclusive for 360.

Well it's not too much of a lost for me, considering I wasn't really interested in the RE series to begin with, though I was hoping to get a taste of the new tweaks they did to the game since the fourth installment. Well in anycase, we don't know if Capcom accepted the offer or not, we shall see how things play out.

Ah, apologies, I misread it.
It would still be a massive blow to Sony owners who would have to wait extra for Residen Evil 5. I for one hate waiting for early released games so that would be painful.

Oh man oh man oh man. Going to get this as soon as it comes out, which is a while away, but I can wait. My friend and I are going to go through the game in one sitting.

That will probably be a long sit, Rag. Yeah, the game feels far away, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. As for the rumor, I'll take it with a grain of salt until there's something more concrete.

While everyone may be arguing back and forth about JRPGs being able to sell successfully for the system or not, I think that Resident Evil definitely will. I am very confident that many Xbox 360 owners will buy that game when it hits the market, so perhaps this deal would not be a very bad thing for Capcom to accept. If anything, if Capcom does except a timed exclusive deal for the 360, I am willing to bet that they will do the same thing they did with the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 and add a bunch of content for the PS3 owners that would have to wait.

well it looks like this truly was a rumor..
very good to see this being debunkd!

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that Microsoft was waving money in the face of Capcom to secure a timed exclusive for upcoming Survival Horror title, Resident Evil 5.
It was suggested that timed exclusivity might possibly be related to the "huge" announcement that Capcom plans to make at the upcoming E3 Media and Business Summit next month.
However, Capcom’s Corporate Officer and Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Christian Svensson, has quickly dispelled the rumor on the company’s official blog.
“The assertion is false. RE5 is a multiplatform release that fits with our oft-stated cross-platform strategy,” wrote Svensson.
With the rumor debunked, it still remains to be seen just what Capcom has planned for the highly anticipated horror sequel when E3 kicks off on July 14.

Where's the rumor that MGS4 is coming to Xbox 360? I haven't heard that one in a while. They used to come out every other week. Maybe RE5 will be their new target for rumors from now on.

To go off topic for a sec, I can understand why that hasn't happened for 360. After playing MGS4, I realize it's more of a Blu-ray movie than a video game. It's filled with hours... upon hours... upon hours of HD cut scenes, which eat up that Blu-ray disc pretty fast. It seems like there's an hour of scenes for every 40 minutes of gameplay, so yeah... it's understandable why it wouldn't work well on DVD.
And as for RE5, I doubt there was ever any real ground to this rumor. The ONLY thing I can see setting back the PS3 version could be possible complications in developing, given that it's said PS3 specs are harder to work with... but Capcom would likely just delay both versions in that instance. I'll keep on assuming it'll hit both consoles at once, but it doesn't matter too much to me. I own both, but I'll be playing it on 360.

So basically, lazy Japanese programmers attack again. In anycase, like you stated for yourself, owners of both systems don't have too much to worry about. Though I think I'll play it on my PS3, considering my lack of options to pays for X-Box Live.

Um... I don't see what a Gold Xbox Live account has to do with RE5? Unless there's multiplayer that I'm not aware of? Other than that, I don't see what difference paid Xbox Live would make over your default account for RE5, whether online or off.

From watching the stuff that my friend downloaded for NG II, I was pretty amazed at some of the downloadable content available for X-Box live users, as opposed to what we PSN users have.

You don't need a paid account to download content. You can use your default silver (free) account to DL anything that doesn't have a point cost. And if it does have a cost, it will cost the same thing on PS3.

Still it would be nice to have a gold account.

lol no. It seems a lot of people think that. A gold subscription is generally just for playing online multiplayer, for the most part. Everything else works the same with silver, downloads or otherwise. And you have that by default, as long as you're connected to the internet at sign-on.
