I did a search and there doesn't seem to be a topic for this yet. Dead Space(PS3, 360 and PC) is a few months off though(Halloween) but since I've noticed quite a few survival horror fans on here like myself I thought I'd post some info and vids for those interested.

Apparently fans of Event Horizon will feel right at home with this game - that's me sorted then smile.gif I'm loving how atmospheric it's looking. I'm quite excited for this game to be honest.

QUOTE ('IGN')
Gamers step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that promises to deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action. Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship's crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.

There's also a comic you can download on PSN I'm not sure if it's there on the xbox Marketplace I haven't checked.
Phisix
Wow, that looks great. I can just imagine how you will walk across the planet in absolute silence except for those horrors. This is going to be on great game.
Dragon Brigade
Personally I’ve never really been one for horror games of any kind, but this one does look good. Not sure I’ll ever get it for my own squeamish reasons, but it doesn’t sound so bad from what I’ve heard of it so far. Space is actually a good place to do something like this, because it’d be quiet and you’d be utterly alone. So many possibilities of things for them to do, haha...

A nifty video from E3:

QUOTE
During the Electronic Arts Press Conference yesterday, EA showed off some gameplay footage of Dead Space. After the developer guided demo through the upcoming survival horror title was over EA left gamers salivating and frightened with a teaser trailer. Each time we see it Dead Space looks more and more like a contender for the survival horror crown. Could it take Resident Evil and Silent Hill down a notch? Well, we'll have to wait for crappy Hollywood movies based on it to find out for sure. Dead Space lands in stores on October 21, 2008.
Ibanez Player
Well, I went through the first four pages in this forum, and didn't see anything for it.

Personally, I'm pumped about this game. There haven't been many good survival horror game for the 360, and this one looks especially appetizing.

QUOTE
The game's plot revolves around Isaac Clarke, a space engineer who works for the Concordance Extraction Corporation (C.E.C), a company that operates "giant mining ships" throughout the galaxy. His company receives a distress call from the USG Ishimura, a “Planet Cracker” class ship that destroys planets in order to extract valuable ore. Assuming that the ship has had a mechanical failure, Isaac and two other C.E.C employees set out to rendezvous with the Ishimura. They soon discover that the ship has been overrun by a hostile alien race. After boarding the ship, Clarke is separated from his party and must battle his way through various hazardous environments to safety.[6] Based on the three graphic art videos released for the game, it seems that a mysterious "artifact" had been found near one of the colony planets and was brought aboard the Ishimura despite the fact that it seemed to make the miners who extracted it go insane. This artifact seems to not only play a large role in the game's story but also seems to be closely followed by a cult, known as the Unitologists.

Nine videos about Dead Space.

Quote from PS3 Fanboy:

QUOTE
WeGame has posted a whooping nine videos about Dead Space from an EA community event they attended. They include interviews with producers, a creature design presentation by the lead concept artist, a lighting presentation by the lead lighting engineer, an environments presentation by the art director, a presentation on scripted events by a producer and two demonstrations of combat and in-game features. The demonstration on in-game features is above, while the rest are after the jump, enjoy

Isn't this the game that is different every time you play a new game?
Or am I thinking about a different game now?

Anyway, the video do look pretty impressive and a friend of mine loves his Resident Evil stuff, so this might be something for him.

I don't think it's different every time you play it. I read that the each and every enemy can be or have to be taken out with a different strategy every time you encounter one but that's it.
Voyou San
they stopped that twinkle twinkle trailer because they said it was too gruesome or something of the sort, i remember reading something like that on it.

Game looks interesting, looks like it might be pretty scury and a good play, prolly rent it.

Hmm, no thought as much. I think it is called Left For Dead then. It was a game that got quite some media attention at the E3 anyway.

Left For Dead looks pretty damn cool it may even convince me to reactivate my Xbox Live Gold account but we shall see it all depends on time and money both of which aren't exactly in abundance lately. thatsuck.gif

Some video game websites really are fascinating. We've been having a blast with the Resistance 2 ARGs, and now we're keeping an eye on this new Dead Space website. No Known Survivors isn't an ARG, though -- you won't be visiting the websites of fake corporations, nor will you be getting mysterious voicemails from Katee Sackhoff. Instead, No Known Survivors is an episodic, interactive 3D experience that takes you on board the USG Ishimura, to explore the events that happen before the upcoming horror game. If you know anything about the game, we're pretty certain that these weekly episodes won't end with bunnies or rainbows. In fact, we're pretty sure there will be ... well, no survivors.

From what I've seen of Joystiq/PS3Fanboy/X3F show of No Known Survivors, it looks pretty fascinating (as the article put it).
Sarc Griffinheart
Heh, that trailer was gorier than I expected it to be. Looks pretty interesting, I'll definitely be looking into it when it comes out. I'll be getting the PS3 version.
Mushroom
Man, the more I see of this, the more f-ed up it looks, and the more I get pumped for it. The ARG etc. are all things I dig and buy into when a game or tv series is coming out, and I'm glad this is out sooner rather than later.

The release date for the game has been brought forward to October the 24th in Europe - I would guess it's the same for the US too -

http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/08/29/d...ward-in-europe/

Mushroom
XDXD I thought that was when it was coming out anyway haha? Its going to clash with Bioshock, but I'll probably have the $ for both that week ^^ then its x-mas present time >>

EDIT: interestingly enough, gamesmaster magazine has a piece of dead space this month and perhaps has given away some previously unmentioned details by accident. They have a half page hands on article, and pretty much cover what weknow so far.
However, they also have the controls to the game detailed in the corner, and apparently one of buttons is mapped to telekinesis. Now, maybe I've missed something, but I haven't seen or heard of this game having telekinesis in it. In fact, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the game's direction if they go with the infected/super-powered monster route, but maybe it was just a mistake. Anyway, just a heads up on that info.

I looked that up, and the telekinesis thing is just a gun.

Ahhhh, I see, thanks DB ^^ its a piece of tech. I just got horrific flashbacks to 2/3 of the way through condemned 2, when the elad character got the magical ability to blow people's heads off and the whole game went to pot. Good article btw, I hadn't read some of that stuff.

Interestingly enough, I just read the PS3 is the lead platform for this game, as is the case with mirror's edge, also by EA. That may be a trend developing.

Ah cool so EA are keeping with their promise to get behind the PS3 after being pleased with the sales of its games on the system. I was hoping it would happen soon and hopefully we'll see some visual differences it'll be really interesting to see how the 360 handles multi-plat ports as a secondary platform for a change too. I have to admit I am hoping for the same graphical differences we saw between the PS2 and original Xbox - i.e. the Xbox blowing the PS2 out of the water in terms of graphics on multi-plat games, but that may be wishful thinking as I don't think the gap between the 360 and PS3 is as large as Xbox and PS2 but we'll see.
Mushroom
Mmm, I'd be inclined to agree with you that the gap isn't the same this time round, but really who knows as PS3 development goes on. It may stay the same right now, it may not. Its good to see EA show some support even if they are a third party, after such high sales reported awhile back.

I actually just made an american psn account (tired of missing out of...well, everything) and one of the trailers I downloaded was the trailer for this directed by James Wan (director of the first saw movie). This game is f-ed up. I feel like I'm repeating myself but Its going to take sheer will for me to have the bottle to play this through.

There's some nice things out right now like a comic book mini-series by two of my favourite creator, Antony Johnston (Wasteland) and Ben Templesmith (Fell), as well as the forth-coming prequel animation on blu-ray. I'm disappointed that its not CGI, but the trailer looked crazy so I'll probably pick it up. Although the push forward of the game means the prequel is now due out a week after its release XD

They're bringing this forward yet again to the 14th October in the US but still 24th in Europe as far as I know

http://www.rpgdreamersforum.com/index.php?...15&start=15
Voyou San
I wonder if they saw all the big games being released on the 21st and decided to push it forward again. I mean Bioshock, Fable 2, LittleBigPlanet and Eternal Sonata all have 10/21 release dates and as cool as this game looks, it would have been lost among Fable 2 and LittleBigPlanet mostly.

Though a push to the 14th and they are still up against FIFA 09, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and SOCOM among others. But I guess on the 14th they are not up against a horror type shooter, which they would be on the 21st with the PS3 release of Bioshock.

anywho, good to hear of a game getting pushed forward and not back
Dragon Brigade
I'll be expecting an update later tonight saying the game will be released tomorrow. xD. But in all seriousness, it does seem to be getting moved forward a lot. Better than being moved backwards though.

Personally I think it'll do well against other releases coming out around the 14th (but that's just me, because not many of the others Voyou listed really interest me much, though that's just my opinion.) rather than the 24th (which I would assume is why they pushed it up, rather than keep it then. LBP, while holding no real sway over me, is going to be a killer no doubt, same with Fable 2 and some of the others.).

But anyway, it's all sounding good.
Mushroom
Wow, they pushed it forward again? I guess if its done and polished etc. then why not. Hopefully we get a great game then and not a game that could have done with another month of polish. I'll take it as a positive for now ^^ This is the big game of October for me, so I can't wait to get a my hands on it.

Dead Space banning rumors come under fire

We imagine that video game developers and publishers aren't pleased when blockbuster titles receive the banhammer's blow before their release dates -- which is why we're so perplexed by the recent drama surrounding Electronic Arts' upcoming "tactical dismemberment" shooter, Dead Space. Destructoid reported Thursday that the game's community manager, Andrew Green, recently broke the regrettable news that the title had been banned in Germany, Japan, and China-- however, GamePolitics has more than a few qualms with this announcement.

Not only is it peculiar that all three bans happen to emerge at the same time, but GP points out that none of the ratings boards of the three nations mentioned have made any announcements on the matter -- even more notably, neither has EA. Also, as one eagle-eyed GP reader pointed out, it's impossible under German law to ban a product before its release. Further negating the German ban, Videogaming247 reports that the title is apparently still going through the ratings gauntlet of Germany's censorship board, the USK.

Regardless of whether this is a misguided publicity stunt, an unfortunate miscommunication, or proof that Andrew Green has mysterious psychic abilities, we certainly hope EA clears up the confusion with a quickness.

...Weird.
Mushroom
*shrug* To be fair, I don't think its a publicity stunt. Even if the rating boards aren't done, China and Germany are kind of easy to predict on these things; I don't think it'll be coming out in either. Not so sure on Japan, but maybe thats just the impression that dude is getting off the people he knows in those organisations. On a better and infinitely cooler piece of news, IGN put up some videos of the various weapons you'll get in this game and they all look great. Not only are they cool and the monsters look a challenge, there's a good looking upgrade system present in one of the vids. Check them out at: HERE
Sigs Minock
it's obvious that this game is gonna get a Mature+ rating.
Odds are i'll rent it when it come out, but won't buy it till later.

still, looks awesome. biggrin.gif
Mushroom
Just to continue the hype trian on this one, IGN have a really good interview up with the exec. producer HERE. Some of his stories from past projects are v. interesting too. I can't stress how good a thing it is as well that Ellis and Johnston have worked on this, they are top notch writers so epic win for the story i hope. Can't wait for this game!
Noonstalker
Im gonna check it out just because it got banned in a couple countries. I wanna see whY!

Which just goes to show how dumb it is that video games still aren't being treated the same as movies and whatnot, despite being an equally valid art form and frankly the biggest growing aspect of entertainment in comparison to music, movies etc.

Countries have to accept these games should be released with the appropriate age rating, the same as a movie or whatever. No movie gets banned because its an 18 horror. Mental. Glad I don't have to worry about that though, and handy the PS3 is region free wink.gif

Here's the trophy list for the game. The first twelve I could imagine anyone who beats the game will have. >.o.

Ya I mean, great list there but c'mon, a trophy for finishing each chapter? I aprpeciate they're only bronze, but finishing the chapter isn't a choice; at least the next easiest (20 kills per weapon) is a choice, that you migbht ahve to go out of your way with, with weapons you don't like or w/e. Otherwise, cool. I'm not really bothered with the whole trophy thing so far ( restarted uncharted and just didn't care enuogh just to play for trophies) but I imagine I could pick up alot of those on a regular playthrough.
Dragon Brigade
I don’t really care too much about the trophies myself. Though, I guess in essence, they aren’t much different from, for example, the special bolts in the Ratchet and Clank series. Then again, that’s debatable, because with R&C you actually have to search for them instead of ‘kill 50 something’s with the Plasma Rod’ or somesuch. >.>. Maybe that wasn’t such a good analogy, haha...

Anyway, more Dead Space weapon vids that I forgot to post up earlier:
