Not much is known about this title yet except it's by Quantic Dream who developed Omikron The Nomad Soul(which was awesome) and Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy(also awesome) which were kind of graphic adventures. The game will apparently have a film noir thriller feel to it it certainly has me interested and it's nice to that the PS3 is getting some interesting looking exclusives.

Anyway here's some details and a trailer

TRAILER

QUOTE ('kotaku')
While most of us in North America don't read the Dutch magazine Chief, one of our readers abroad pointed out that they'd run a major exclusive on upcoming Quantic Dream/Sony title Heavy Rain. (You know Quantic Dream as the company behind Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, and you know Heavy Rain from my fanboy obsession).

Reader Saimon was kind enough to translate some of the more enticing statements about the title made by Quantic Dream's founder David Cage. And we were kind enough to copy and paste the translations after the jump.

On Locations:
"I don't want to do a big free-roaming city like GTA, because the flow of the story will then be hard to control. Nevertheless, I do want to incorporate big sets, with a crowd, heavy populated areas like a mall and a subway are going to be in there. Of course, the gameplay has got to make use of that aspect too."

On Graphics:
"People will be surprised. Internal (Sony's) feedback on graphics has been great. This is going to be a truly next-gen game. But still, we want to do something unique with the graphics, going beyond just making the most photorealistic world we can."

On Gameplay:
"With the release of Fahrenheit, we gave the adventure genre a new grammar. We brought new ways into the genre, new words if you want to see it like that, a new vocabulaire. With Heavy Rain, where going to expand on that same grammar."

On Story:
"Heavy Rain is about normal people that have landed in extraordinary situations. I wanted a much more personal story. The first thing that came to my mind, as a father of two little boys, was that the main theme should simply be a father's love for his son. This is not a game about saving the princess or the world. Its purely about a father's love."

"The main story will revolve around 4 different characters, and we're putting the spotlight on their perceptions. The question 'what is good and what is evil' is the key here, that will be just a matter of viewpoint...I believe heavily in moral choices, I'm going to use them A LOT. They're not about being good or bad, but about finding the right balance."

So far, so good. Thanks to Saimon for all the hard work on this one

i remember viewing the trailer for this.. though details had been slim..

Indigo Prophecy was awesome, so i hope for good things./

This game looks like it's going to be intense. A friend of mine showed me the trailer way back in the day, and I'm really excited about it. The character designs looks really nice too, but I'm hoping they don't tread into the uncanny valley with it.
Dragon Brigade
Agreed on the intenseness factor. Film noir is always fine with me. Hopefully the game doesn't disappoint. ^^
LunarMaster
This was just a tech demo from what I understood so it doesn't actually represent the game itself (at least I don't think it does). The character detail looks quite good, but the animations just have the creepy stiff look to them. Hoping a new trailer pops up at E3.

Some new screenshots - you'll need to scroll down a bit
Voyou San
yea those screenshots look sick, especially the close up of the eyes.

That looks the business, good post smile.gif This is the sort of thing I want from my PS3 new IPs that show the potential of the console.

In before Lunar says something negative about it.

Also, it looks really impressive. But what is it? I noticed it seems to have interactive cut scenes. I have to read up on what kind of game it is. It sounds to me like we might get to play the game from different characters point of view, and perhaps they will interact with each other, which will make the player question what is right and what is wrong? For example, in a situation like the struggle we see in the video, if you get to play that event with the other character as well later in the game, and they both have their own reason for doing what they do, then you might change your perception of what you thought was right. And maybe start to question your own actions next time a similar event happens.

Sounds very interesting. I played a bit of Indigo Prophecy, and I always wanted to play more of that game because what I saw really impressed me.
Voyou San
hicks its all a game about moral choices, and whatnot..

I was just checking out this game, hadn't got round to having a proper read of the E3 and GC coverage, and it looks...weird, to say the least. Cool, but very different. Is all the gameplay going to be made up of these sort of interactive cutscenes? I might go check out their other games, since I haven't played any of them ,and they seem to get rave reviews.
Death
Hopefully it will be nothing Like Chocolate rain.

laugh.gif If you look at the pic on both her hands (not the reflection) she has two right thumbs - her left hand is the wrong way round.

Actually, I think you're the one mixing it up with the reflection, pardna.

I believe you're looking at the fingers from the reflection on her left hand. Her non-reflection fingers are wrapped around the pole.

I rest my case.
cloudycat
Oh my life haha!!

looking through the characters eyes her left hand is the wrong way round

/\ that hand has the thumb on the wrong side it doesn't match the hand in the reflection, she's even holding the pipe the wrong way to the reflection. To me looking at that pic she has two right hands.

EDIT Oh aye duh!! I just noticed the fingers HAHAHA!!! Man my eyes are fXXked either that or I need to turn up the contrast on my monitor xp.gif oops.gif
Mushroom
Hahahah, thats hilarious man. I see exactly what you were looking at now. For anyone interested btw, there's a really good mirror's edge trailer on the official site, that basically picks up where the first trailer leaves off, jumping towards the pipes ^^

To bring all this back on track, PS3fanboy has some more news about this very interesting game:

QUOTE
David Cage, director of Heavy Rain, disclosed an interesting tidbit of info back at LGC: the main character of the game, as seen above, can be killed and the player will still be able to continue the game. "I can't really tell you too much about what the story's about or how it's going to work with the characters, all I can tell you that your character -- the main character -- can die, and the story will continue," Cage told VG247. "You can continue to play, without this character, of course."

He was asked to elaborate on whether the player will continue on in a side-story instead. "No, no. It's one big story." We knew Heavy Rain was going to be innovative, but this is something we've yet to see in a big-budget title.

Well, this is definetely very different. I hope they make it work since it sounds very cool, but I'm perhaps just a little skeptical since I've never seen anything of its kind before. hopefully we see more at TGS.
Dragon Brigade
That’s pretty cool if you ask me. Not sure how well it’ll work (who becomes the controlled character afterwards, exactly how different will the story play out, etc.), but it sounds like an interesting additional tidbit.

20+ minutes of Heavy Rain

QUOTE
Gamekyo recently got a second helping of Heavy Rain at the Micromania Games Show 2008 in Paris. At the show, David Cage showed off the same level seen in the debut Leipzig trailer earlier this year. This time, Cage took the MGS crowd through the level, showing them Heavy Rain's Sixaxis controls, fully interactive environments, multiple story paths and no load screens.

Gamekyo recorded over 20 minutes of the demonstration, which you can watch right after the break. While Cage may be explaining everything in French in the video, it's not too difficult to figure out what's going on. Besides, the in-game dialogue is in English.

It takes a little to get into. Like they said, the speaking is in French, so for the first minute or so you just listen to him, with the character in the background looking around with her eyes. To skip the opening speaking and get to the guts of the video (where they show video from the game; in-game dialogue is in English), go to 3:06.

The video takes a while to buffer though (for me at least; keeps needing to stop, and when I've let it just sit to load to 100%, it takes about five minutes just to go 1%, so hopefully that's just with my computer and nobody else's; if the one on PS3 Fanboy does go slow for anybody else, I've kept the link to the one uploaded at Gamekyo to try that one).
Athrun
Heh, since you tend to post a lot of news lately, I checked the topic hoping that your new post was a video of some sort, and it was. It seems to take forever to buffer though, as you said, so I'll go make something to eat in the meantime.

The Gamekyu video works better. (Skip the first three minutes.)

I just finished watching the video and I'm very very impressed by the game so far. The game looks absolutely gorgeous, and the animation and lighting looks very realistic. She moves very human like. Looks like they've put a lot of work into the details for this game. And controlling a character in a horror game who isn't armed with any weapons makes it feel all the more scary. The split screen system is really cool too. And the part about the main character being able to die and you still continue the story sounds really interesting.

Looking forward to seeing more of this awesome game.
