Transferring Content Licenses to a New Console

Got a new Xbox 360® console? Great. But maybe you downloaded games or other content from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace onto an older Xbox 360 console, and now you want all that content on your new system. Well, now there's a way to do it.

With the license transfer tool, you can transfer the licenses of all your previously downloaded content from your old console to the new one.

Two Part Process
It's a simple two-part process.

First, you must transfer your authorized licenses here on the site.

Second
, you must download the transferred licenses onto your new Xbox 360.

It's about goddamn time. ohmy.gif

Good addition. What sucks is I already sold my old console so I get to rebuy everything whenever I get another 360. They should keep track of your licenses by gamertag, or something.
LunarMaster
They do. This is so you don't have to be on Live to play the stuff you bought (that's what happen when they sent me a replacement console with a different serial). I now have to go online or my purchased downloaded games are seen as demos. I don't know when I'll actually get around to doing this, but it's a nice feature.
The Evil Dead
Sweet ass.

so wait, does it delete the content of said xbox when it transfers it? because whats to stop people from simply moving their stuff from their own console to their mates?

other than, yeah, this has been a long time coming, and i didnt actually realise that it couldnt be done untill i tried to figure out how to do it and started posting around.

If the console is not the main license, it means that you need to be logged into the account that purchased the stuff so they don't become demos. If the license is on your console, all accounts have access to the content on the harddrive and won't show up as demos. From what I read you can only do the console license transfer once a year. That would restrict the possible piracy somewhat.

really good move..

Everything is based strongly on your gamertag. If you take your hard drive to a friends house and put it on his xbox, all your content will be restricted in some way like said; Arcade games will become "demos", rather than the full game, but as soon as you log into Xbox Live, you can play the full games.

The only way you're going to be able to transfer content onto a friends console, is if you put your gametag on his hard drive. By doing that, it will remove yours from your console until you recover it again. Which means piracy is very unlikely unless you dont mind losing your gamertag and all of the money you've put into downloaded content...
