This means nothing to current 360 owners. To those looking into it, or people like me who sold apparently too early ( Yeah start releasing the RPG's after I sell, MS. ) this is awesome news. Whether it's fully true or not is up in the air, but a price drop on the system is eminent.

Soon as I have my laptop paid off this is my next purchase. Should only be a couple months away. smile.gif

Following up on yesterday's rumor that the Xbox 360 Premium model will soon fall to $299, Joystiq has received (from a separate source) what we believe may be the full-page Kmart ad confirming the price drop . However, our new source says that the flyer is actually for the week of July 13 (E3 week!) and not the originally reported week of July 6. We're attempting to get a better quality scan (this latest image is courtesy of another cell phone) and hope to update by this evening.

thats a good deal, hopefully for you, that is, if you are going to buy it again, this is true. Although I mine off a friend for 200$ so I'm all set, 300$ still would of been good but 200 is better.

EDIT: I got mine, not "I mine"
The Evil Dead
If I could get a premium for 200 I'd definitely do it.

To continue on, rumor has it that the price will indeed drop, but only to discontinue the 20GB model and replace it with a new 60GB model back at its original price tag.

Rumor: More Xbox 360 price cut, 60GB 360 talk
Posted Jun 30th 2008 11:00AM by Dustin Burg
Filed under: News, Rumors

Ever since last week, we've known about a rumored $299 Xbox 360 Pro price cut thanks to a leaked Kmart adscan and have also heard grumblings of a new 60GB HDD equipped 360 being announced at E3. Well, the rumor mill keeps on a churning as two more sources are reporting that the price cut and 60GB 360 rumors are indeed true.

Ars technica is claiming that, according to their super secret source, Microsoft will only be cutting the 20GB Xbox 360's price to $299 because it'll be discontinued and replaced with the newer 60GB HDD model. They also claim that the new 60GB 360 will roll out to retailers sometime in July, refuting the August release claims that were previously rumored. Finally, Hollywood Reporter is jumping into the Xbox 360 rumor pit, with claims that their sources tell them that the Xbox 360 Pro price cut will in fact happen prior to E3, but no information regarding the Elite or Arcade is available.

This is how we see this playing out: The first week of July, Microsoft will announce that the Xbox 360 Pro and only the Pro will see a price cut to $299. Then, the second week of July during their E3 press conference, MS will announce a new 60GB HDD Xbox 360 console priced at $349 to replace the old 20GB model. Simple.

So in short, the 20GB price cut would just be to sell through them and make way for the new 60GB premium. Sounds good I guess. I always thought it was a little ridiculous that the premium drive was a full 100GB smaller than the Elite, so this would be a little more fitting. Good news either way for anyone picking up a 360 anytime soon, as you've got some decent options if this is true.

good move by Microsoft if this is true and if i had the money to drop i might pick this up.
The Evil Dead
Bah. That kinda sucks. I don't know if I'll be able to throw the money together in time, unless there's plenty of those units sitting around.

If I could get a premium for 200 I'd definitely do it.

Hmm, what do you mean $200? Isn't itgoing to be $350? And something about Pro being $300.
What's the difference between all these Pro, Premium, Elite, Arcade, etc?
Premium? How am I supposed to know what that represents? Am I filling up gas? I wish they had more straightforward names based on the HDD size that tell the jist of it right away. Maybe I'll memorize them one day. All I know is that the Core had no Harddrive.

Anyway, $200 for a good version of Xbox 360 is almost good enough to consider. I think that's the equivalent of $110 here. It's really cheap, but still too much for a brick that only plays 2-3 games and takes up space in my room. But if it was $150, then I would seriously consider getting that brick.

What is all this nonsense? Are you high or something?

I said I'd get one for $200 for sure if I could, as Apple Juice sold his to a friend for that.

Well I had no idea if you were referring to something from an article or link regarding this since you didn't quote anyone. I'm not particularly interested in X360 to dig for much info, so I asked. (And I didn't understand what you meant by "getting money in time" as if this is a limited deal, which I didn't find when I browsed through the article, but I'll refrain from asking. lol)

I would've gone for it. At the very least, a few of those games may've been a decent trade-in to get something worthwhile.

JD posted an article above regarding that this price drop was to phase out the 20gb model. Meaning I'd have a limited amount of time to get the money together to get the console depending on the amount of 20gb models out there.

Oh, so you're going for the 20GB version then? I missread the article at first. I thought the 60 GB model and the 20 GB model would be priced the same.
Anyway, the 60 GB model might only be $50 more than the price cutted 20 GB version, right? An extra 50 for a decent harddrive might be good? Or are you ok with a 20 GB harddrive?

20 GB is pretty hard to use up unless you download a lot of content or play games like FF11 that you have to download onto your HD. Some Xbox originals like Ninja Gaiden take up quit a bit of space as well. I ended up uninstalling FF11 just so I could install NG: Black, though. If you dont plan on downloading anything, 20 GB is the way to go...
Athrun
Well a lot of PS3 games allow you to install the games to improve loading times. That seems to take up a few GB here and there. Is that not common on X360? I remember some PS3 games had that option while the X360 versions didn't for some reason, but I don't know to what extent it's missing on X360 games. Thought it might be more common now.

The funny thing is, GTA 4 laods faster on the X360 than it does on the PS3. And by that, I mean the main loading that is done in the beginning of the game when it goes through the slide show of pictures.

The 20 gig is just fine for the 360.

The previous article I posted is confirmed on Xbox.com now.

Xbox 360 Console Now Offers Triple the Storage
Published July 13, 2008

Redmond, Washington—Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.

Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. In addition, Microsoft today dropped the price of its 20GB Xbox 360 console in the U.S. and Canada to just $299 (U.S.) (ERP) while supplies last, a savings of $50.

"We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we're giving it to them at no extra charge," said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. "No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you'll have three times the storage to manage all that great content."

Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft's Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games, is a value for the whole family for $279 (U.S.) (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for $449 (U.S.) (ERP).

So if any of you want a 360 anytime soon, the 20GB drive model is now $299 while supplies last.
The Evil Dead
Argh... For the love of god there better still be 20 gigs in like a month. >_>

I mean I guess it only ends up being 50 bucks but I don't have as much money to throw around as I used to.
