A brand new Prince of Persia game is jumping its way on to the Nintendo DS.

QUOTE
While the Prince's last outing on the DS was a turn-based strategy game, his next adventure on Nintendo's portable will attempt to be more faithful to the acrobatic action that is the series' trademark. While the DS may not have the array of analog sticks and buttons that its console and handheld counterparts possess, Ubisoft is attempting to re-create the Prince of Persia style of play with stylus controls.

It won't just be the Prince's movements that players control with the stylus, as a mysterious new character called the Magus joins him on a quest to stop an evil force known as Corruption from destroying an entire kingdom. The Magus possesses magic powers, and will also be called on to fight and help solve puzzles throughout the adventure.

While the PC and console editions of Prince of Persia are being developed at Ubisoft Montreal, duties for The Fallen King have been entrusted to the Ubisoft development studio in Casablanca, Morocco. This is not the first time the Casablanca crew has adapted a successful franchise to the DS; it has also developed Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 for the handheld.

Prince of Persia: The Fallen King is set for release during the coming holiday season.

Controlling the prince and Magus with the stylus sounds interesting. They could make acrobatic and skill jumps and the things the Prince does very, very fun.

I was reading something about this a couple days ago (or maybe it was yesterday, I can't even remember), and initially I was interested, but I'm not so sure of it at the moment. I haven't played a PoP yet (own SoT for the GC though), but I'm a little wary of this one (not because it's on the DS).

This is one of the screens DSfanboy had when they posted their article:

Not too sure I like it. So far a lot of people have been complaining with the way the Prince looks, but I don't mind that so much as the rest of the way the game looks. I'll give it time though, but personally I don't think this one is for me...
Phisix
You never played one? Dang, your missing out on some good acrobatic skillz fun.

I don't know about that picture, it looks awfully Gameboy Advance like which puts me on the fence for this one. If Ninja Gaiden and Final Fantasy IV can have good 3D graphics, I don't see why this game can not have some too.

Game play over graphics is the best thing, but that screenshot is very ugly so there is no excuse.
Mushroom
Granted the screenshot does look poor, it really does. But its a freeze frame, so I'll hold my breath until I see it in action. The last PoP spin-off wasn't spectacular so we'll see. I'm freakin excited for the new game though. Everyone here should know by now I'm a major mark for the PoP series <3

The first in game trailer of POP: The Fallen King is out and it looks absolutely great and fun, and it reminds me a bit of Aladdin on the Megadrive, but much better.

POP Trailer

It looks so much fun.
Dragon Brigade
It doesn't look quite so bad in action, and I agree about the Aladdin thing. I'm just not sure I want to get this game yet. I'll probably just wait and see what all the reviews say after it's out. I dunno. >.>.
Phisix
Or you could just rent it out and decide for yourself. Reviews are not always the best way.
Mushroom
I'm sure she knows how to decide whichever way thats best for her wink.gif

I saw the traile rtoday, and it looks frickin great fun. SO much better than the freezeframes. I didn't even realise the prince was supposed to be cartoony from those freeze frames, i just thought it was an extremely poor 3D model haha, but its v. good. Aladdin is a good comparison, that game was superb back in the day. I'm still not sure what i think of the main game, wanna see gameplay footage of that too, but this looks cool anyway.
Dragon Brigade
I usually don't put much stock in reviews (for movies and books especially), but for games I like to read them (sometimes) just to see what everybody has to say on a game. For instance, The World Ends With You has no real appeal to me, even though it's getting such great reviews. On the other hand, I loved Legend of Dragoon, and more than half the reviews I'll read say that it was the suckiest game created and it in no way was a "Final Fantasy killer" (which it wasn't, but in my mind it's a far better game. Simple bias. =p. ).

I dunno...I might borrow it or something, but I usually don't do the renting thing. Either I'll borrow it from somebody who does have it, or I pick it up cheap years later just because "it's supposed to be a good game" or something like that. I dunno. I don't really like renting something, because if I end up liking it I'll want to finish it, and I'd want to have my own copy so I don't have to keep renting it (even if I end up never playing it again. Game collector stupidity ftw!).

*shrugs*. I'll see how things turn out. =).
