Woo! Another Tales game. Here’s to hoping it makes it to the US. =).

QUOTE

Not one, but two amazing RPG announcements have been made for the DS this morning. First up, a timeless masterpiece of epic proportions -- second, a brand-new addition to the acclaimed Tales series. We could go on about what we prefer, but it really doesn't matter. Life is good.

Tales of Hearts has been scanned from Shonen Jump and shipped over the intertrons for your viewing enjoyment. The image is skint on details, but two characters make an apperance in anime and real ... human form. The release is scheduled near the end of the year -- just hope it makes it to America, unlike another awesome game.

EDIT: My brain seems to be failing me. Totally forgot about the Tales forum for this. Could a Moderator please move this for me?

I was really hoping they wouldn't use that name, but oh well.

Another Tales game is never a bad thing. I wonder if this one will get a release outside of Japan?

I saw about this, this morning, but saw no concrete looking evidence. All that is left now is a PSP Tales of game and it is a whole this generation set, heh. Perhaps the real looking characters are from the cut scenes, maybe.

I hope it will be released out of Japan. This DS get more RPGS everyday. I love it.

They've already announced Radiant Mythology 2 for the PSP. Unless you meant an "original" Tales game, but still...That would fill the quota of a Tales game being released on just about every "new" console. =).

Yes, that was what I ment. I have no idea what Radiant Mythology is, though...

LOLS, Tales of Hearts is an awful name....but I guess it fits true to the "Tales of" series name criteria. tongue.gif

I'm excited to try it out though! The fact it's for the DS is promising, especially for me.

Something looks very off about the character's appearances though, in human form. :\ The guy looks crosseyed adn the girl's hair looks too big for her. I'm sure they'll look better in motion though....or so I'd hope. dry.gif

Tales oh Hearts? Tales of we-ran-out-of-ideas. Anyway, a new DS game was pretty much expected sooner or later. One for each console. But I have to agree, the CG design on the characters looks odd...

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology is basically a spin-off type thing that puts a bunch of different characters from different Tales games into one game and go from there. So it's not exactly an "original" Tales game, but it's still a Tales game nonetheless. =).

And I ditto with the name "Tale of Hearts", but I'm sure it has some deep philosophical meaning. =p. I'm sure they'll fix the cg people eventually. Might just be the scan, too...Page doesn't look like it was "flat", but sort of rounded a bit...But it wouldn't make that big of a difference anyway. People would still look the same. >.o.

A better scan that has a couple of gameplay screens as well.

At a promotional event in Japan for all things Tales, a number of guest speakers showcased plenty of new ideas and media for the groin-grabbingly popular RPG franchise. Some footage from the upcoming Tales of Hearts was featured along with running commentary, but our general stupidness prevents any translation. However, you can still see the game in action, as the charming little sprite characters duke it out in a beautifully detailed world.

This is self-inflicted pain. If you allow yourself to get excited over each superb entry in the Tales series, you'll wind up cold and alone. There's nothing more depressing than a neglected RPG.

The footage is only about twenty-five seconds, but you can see stuff in it. The cg people still look a little weird, but it’s not too bad.
Dragon Brigade
Sorry for another bump. This article explains the whole CG / anime art thing. I can definitely say that I'll most likely be using it so that it's in 2D Anime Art, because the CG still looks weird...Hopefully they won't release two different carts but keep it all on one, because I might want to try out the CG sometime too.

QUOTE
New Information has also emerged on the recently revealed Tales of Heart for the Nintendo DS. Players will be given the choice of viewing Cut-scenes in 2D Anime Art, or CG Animation. It is rumoured that Production I.G, the same company assisting with Wario Land for Wii, will be handling the Anime side of things.

It is unclear whether this subsequent choice would require two versions of the game for retail, or if Namco-Bandai will squeeze it all on one DS Cart.

Those screens look nice.(From a DS perspective) I am glad the DS is getting a Tales of game, and I will probably get this as soon as it comes up.

UPDATE: A new and improved trailer...
TRAILER

Whilst I have absolutely nothing against the visual style of the actual game footage (actually find it quite appealing - especially for a handheld) I am not impressed with the CG cut scenes in the least. I have always been a fan of the anime sequences in this series and it was one of the reasons I picked up ToS in the first place - I'm just praying that this is not a sign of things to come.
Dragon Brigade
I only really have beef with the black-haired female's cg appearance. The guy and the platinum haired woman look somewhat normal, but otherwise they just look kind of odd. The actual in-game footage is almost nostalgic. Not sure why though. Nice trailer. =).

I don't know if it is just me, but the character models in and outside of battle look and move very weird. As for the CGI, I am with you on that aspect. Anime cutscenes would have fit much better than those CGI. Other than that, the trailer was awesome, and will be another DS RPG that I will be getting.
Apple
LOLS?! The first two characters still look odd in motion, although the other two characters revealed in CG look pretty awesome. I am seriously hating on the CG-designer for the brown-haired character. His hair looks like it could do some damage if you spin around fast enough. But the in-game shots look promising. :D I'm excited to try it when it comes out. Hopefully it won't disappoint. *_*

Tales of Hearts: screenshots & producer's description
QUOTE
According to a Famitsu interview, producer Hideo Baba says that “Hearts” was chosen for the title because of its themes of interpersonal connections that go beyond communication and stretch more deeply into feeling and emotion. It also ties in the courage he feels the characters show and his own personal desire to commemorate the past…in whatever way. The much-discussed switches from traditional sprites in the regular game to realistic models in the videos represents his wanting to express both the old and the new in the same game.

There’s a good chance this might make it to NA. ^^. Apparently the name was trademarked for North America, so...yeah.

Now it’s just the “when?”.

In other words it’s a Tales game. Couldn’t agree with you more. =p.
Hyoushitsu
Yeah, I'm always up for a Tales game getting release outside of Japan. The games may be flawed, but they're damn near the epitome of the word fun. Makes it really easy to overlook said flaws.

Awesome news. I'm always pessimistic when a new Tales game is announced.

Updation.

V-Jump magazine in Japan recently revealed two new characters for the upcoming DS RPG Tales of Hearts.

The male, Hisui Hearts (brother of the protagonist Kohak Hearts), and appears to use a crossbow-like weapon. The female in the scan was revealed to be named Ines Lorenz (on the left), who appears to wield a sword in the game. Other than names, their roles in the game are unknown.

Tales of Hearts will be released on the DS in Japan in Winter of this year, with no confirmed release for any other region.

I personally would buy the anime renditions for cutscenes rather than the CG myself...if it *does* get released to NA like I'm thinking it might (though I'm also worried they might just release one version if anything, and with my luck it'd end up being the CG. But I'll take what I can get. >.>.).

Anyway, some more info from IGN regarding battle system plus a few other things:

QUOTE
August 26, 2008 - Following up on yesterday's story about Namco's plans for two versions of Tales of Hearts, a few new details on the game have come our way through the game's official site.

The site introduces a couple of new characters who join previously announced Shing Meteorite and Kohaku Hearts as protagonists. First up is Koahku's older brother, Hisui. Voiced (in the Japanese version) by Masaya Matsukaze, the 18-year-old Hisui is strongly protective of his sister. Also introduced at the site is Innes Lorenz. Voiced by Shizuka Ito, Innes runs her own delivery shop and is tougher than she appears (but apparently not tough enough to tell the truth about her weight).

Also introduced at the site is the game's battle system. As previously announced, Hearts makes use of the Combination Aerial LMBS system, and advanced version of the Aerial LMBS battle system from Tales of Destiny. The "combination" part of the system comes from a new combination gauge. When this gauge fills up, you can select to perform combination attacks with party members who aren't on the battle field. Candidates for your combo pairings appear on the touch screen, and are accessible with a simple tap.

Joining the combination gauge is the emotion gauge. This gauge appears to control how many consecutive moves you can make. It depletes as you make attacks, and recovers automatically when you're resting. When the gauge is full, you can make more moves but have weaker defense. On the flip side, when the gauge is low, you can't attack as much, but your defense rises. The official site also mentions that the gauge is influenced by character relationships, although it doesn't get into specifics.

You can see the new characters and gameplay systems for yourself at the Tales of Hearts official site. As we noted yesterday, to access the site's content, you'll have to first make your choice of CG or anime character designs.

Tales of Hearts is set for a December release in Japan.

Brief IGN Preview from TGS

I'm still trying not to get too excited for this in case it doesn't make it outside Japan (beyond importing it), but I'm glad to hear they won't have random encounters and they'll be moseying around, and they'll also have skits in this one.

It was a short preview, but it's something.

What are the chances of this being released in English?

Or any of the other Tales titles made for the Nintendo DS, for that matter? wub.gif
Dragon Brigade
The name has been trademarked for NA (in an earlier post), but Namco has yet to officially say anything about it. Hopefully it should eventually make it out. ^^
