Yesterday's Namco Bandai press conference revealed media for new Tales RPGs on DS and PSP, and announced a Tales of the Abyss anime series. But outside of their 2008 lineup, series manager Makoto Yoshizumi announced that a new Tales game would be released on Wii in fiscal 2009.

The new game is to be the latest in their "Mothership" Tales series from Namco Tales Studio, rather than a port, remake, or side story. The good news, then, is that as a high-prestige title, it's more likely to be localized. We expect that Namco Bandai will continue to focus their promotion on Tales of Hearts and the other new games, so we'll have to wait a bit for specifics on this new Wii game. We've still got Tales of Symphonia 2 to look forward to anyway.

Read about this early this morning - another piece of good news - the series really does seem to be going from strength to strength and with the sheer number of Wii owners out there, here's hoping the series gets a bit more of the acknowledgment/success that it deserves. Also good to see the Wii getting more RPGs - keep em coming Namco!

Remember back during the event Namco-Bandai held for the Tales of series a few months ago, when a "Mothership" (Namco-Bandai term for a main series, non-spinoff title) title was announced for the Wii? During Nintendo's press confrence in Tokyo, Japan that centered around the Nintendo DSi and upcoming games for both systems.

During the upcoming Wii games that were shown, a unlabeled, Tales-like screenshot was taken.

It was played when the song around 59:30 in the above video, which happens to be a arrangement of a Tales of Destiny 2 song.

Rpgmonkey has some rumors that this game is being developed by a mix of Team Destiny and the Ratatosk development team, and that it isn't a "Destiny 3", but a brand-new Tales game. Namco is also making a new anime-geared "HD" project that will release next Spring. Sword of Legendia also got a title change (likely because it made it seem like it was related to Tales of Legendia).

This seems to be an accidental early leak on Namco-Bandai's part, since no name was given, or even a proper trailer. Maybe we'll learn more during TGS 2008?

Having not had the opportunity of playing ToD/ToD2 I'd rather this turn out to be an entirely new game in the series - unless of course it resulted in the localization of the first two games in which case I'm all for it. For more speculation and what I would imagine is the usual trolling had over to the Tales forum using the included link.

Perfect news for me to come onto the forum today; Tales news. <3

I haven’t played any of the Destiny’s myself, so I’d almost hope it’s a new game entirely (and since I don’t think either of the ToDs got localized, if it was ToD 3 I doubt we’d see it...). But I think it's a new game, personally. Looking forward to more out on it though.

oh I'm happy that it's going to be a brand new game! I haven't played any tales games before but they always looked so good. If it's for the wii, I would actually be able to get this game a chance. I cannot wait to hear more on this ^^

The original ToD got a release on the PS1 IIRC, but we definitely never got ToD2 thanks to the debacle with the naming of the state side release of Eternia - and it was a direct sequel - so if it turns out to be ToD3 as you said the chances of us seeing it are pretty slim - I suppose it could always be a prequel, but having not played the original I can't say if that would be warranted.

Personally though I'm really interested to see what this 'anime-geared "HD" project' coming out in spring is going to be. You've got to hand it to Namco - they know just the right way and just right amount of info to give to the fans to really get them going.

*Gasp!* You poor soul. I know I start foaming at the mouth every time I come into this particular sub-forum, but the Tales series has remained my absolute favorite. You should definite give this one a go when it comes out (even though I still don’t know too much about it, haha). If you only have access to a Wii, you should try snagging Tales of Symphonia for the GameCube as well, since it’ll work (and if you like that one, see about getting the new one, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World which’ll be for the Wii).

...Thus endeth my sales pitch...xD.

And PAL, I’d have to agree. Even with just a small morsel of information, I get very excited if it’s in any relation to the Tales series. Not sure if anyone can tell. xD.

No idea what the anime-geared HD project would be though...Might find a leak sometime though.

Edit: I should say, a "leak". You never know what's a genuine leak or not sometimes...
