Rewind about 5 years, and I was in pretty much the same situation, but with Gamecube. I held off on buying it until a certain or other game would be released. But whenever one of those games came out, they either weren't enough to purchase a system for (Smash Brothers *because everyone else had it anyway*, Resident Evil remake), or they just failed to impress me all together (Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, Metal Gear Twin Snakes).
And not a very bright prospect of future big titles being released.
With Wii I find myself in a similar situation. After some friends got Wii and I tried out Zelda, I completely lost the hype for the game for some reason.
Another reason I wanted Wii was for Super Mario and Smash Brothers. But while Mario is fun, I still need more to justify investing in a console. And with Smash Brothers, I was a bit underwhelmed to say the least. Sure, it is fun, but maybe not the big change for the better I was expecting. And again, since everyone else has it anyway and we only play it for multiplayer, might as well skip it.
After all the companies talked so much about making games for Wii, and pretty much all we see are low-to-mid budget gimmick games, it doesn't seem like the prioritized console it was first made out to be. What have we seen for it from Capcom, Namco, Konami, Square, etc? A Resident Evil 4 port and an on-rails shooter. A Soul Calibur copy that pales in comparison to the main game. And a new Crystal Chronicles. The least appreciated FF series ever. Namco are the only exception, developing a full fledged Tales of game for it.
But to be honest I don't see much in it's future that interests me. What big games are coming out for it?
I went from being sure of getting Wii to seriously question whether I should, or if I should just leave it be like the Gamecube.

this is the exact reason i have yet to get the wii and will never, i do not see anything on that console that screams "holy crap, I HAVE TO PLAY THIS!!"
i think you should save the 250 bucks you would have spent on this and use it towards a PS3 or a 360, though i would say PS3 but either of those systems will provide you with games now and games in the future that will be great. I dont think you will get that on the Wii. You may get the good game here or there, but it wont be much. I see it much as i did the gamecube, mabye 5 games on the cube that were good, MABYE. All the wii is going to do is create spam games over and over and bleed mario to death (cant stand him anymore)..
save your money, put it towards a real console, something that will last you many years and something that provides you with tons of great options as far as games.

I find the same thing with the Wii... once all the gimmicks run thin on the games (iTs liike reel tinnis! i swin tah wiimote liKe a batt!!!!111) and you look at all the games out for it I suddenly lose interest. Mad world DOES look interesting but I think we'll just have to wait until E3.
I'm on the edge of buying my next-gen console, and for about a month I've been looking at all three options but the Wii was the one I ruled out first. I'm half-way to handing over my cash for a PS3 but I'm waiting for E3 to make me certain.
I never really wanted a gamecube but I got one for free about a year ago, I use it every so often but I've found that all the games I really wanted to play are still quite easy to get a hold of and much cheaper, but there still aren't that many. I think for me the Wii will be the same. It's a great console for a family (Out family have had a lot of fun with my brother's Wii, it was great to see my almost blind mother beat my brother at the wii-bowling, further proving the fact that it's an accessible console) but outside of that it doesn't appeal much.

I do want to buy a Wii eventually mainly because my fiance likes to play games with me, and we're HUGE smash brothers fans. That being said, I think it does have GREAT potential, but may lack in hard-core developers because "it's just Nintendo" and "the controller is stupid" (but IMO, it's one of the greatest controllers ever made... even though it's gimmiky)
Another reason why I want to get it eventually, it's because I KNOW my kids will want to play video games, and I'll need a multiplayer system do do that (a.k.a. Wii) because let's face it folks, PS3 was not made for party games. (if anybody mentions Madden, I'll kill them). I loved the GC and N64 for their party games and that is why I'll still love Nintendo forever

(ya, Mario is a LITTLE old, but nothing beats a good game of Mario Kart 64)
Atty, it's up to you. Do you believe that it will get better/do you like party games, or not. As I said before, it's up to you.

The Wii is the GC 1.5. That's reason enough to not get it.
Basically you're stuck with first party titles, and if you don't enjoy those... What else do you get? Not a lot. Well. MAYBE Custom Robo.

I agree, I have a Wii and would not have bought it with my own money (my parents bought it because they saw media coverage on it, I guess). While Zelda, Mario, and Smash Bros. are all good games, they really aren't enough. I think Zelda was disappointing for a Zelda game which I started to notice during my third play through. The bosses are really uninspired and dungeons are just painfully easy so its not even that fun. Mario actually is really good, but as you said, one game isnt enough reason to buy a console. Smash Bros. is fun in multiplayer, and I had a ton of fun playing it with friends, I haven't touched since last time I played multiplayer close to 2 months ago. Also with Smash Bros., I believe that you've mentioned that you have friends who have it, if so, I don't really see a reason for you to get a Wii for it.
Nothing in the future looks to promising, to be honest. I mainly use it to wait for Nintendo to put Majora's Mask on the virtual console (a game I've been craving to play for a while) and for the few GC games that I still own.
In other news, my PS3 has been getting the most use out of all 3 systems since MGS4 came out, so I would have to recommend saving for that.

Well, it is going to be like the GameCube. But I’ll still end up getting one because I’m a major Tales fan (Symphonia: DotNW already has me sold, plus the new Tales that is coming out in ‘09), and I’ll be picking up any Zelda / FE games (plus any other oddball Wii exclusive rpgs + SSBB). So yeah, it’s probably not worth it if you want to have more than seven odd games in your Wii library, but I guess it just depends. To me the future of the Wii is promising (Tales games = win), but in the grand scheme of things it really isn’t. >.o. Oh well.

If you don't have the money and you want all three or another one of three major consoles, I tell you to put the money to the other console, if you're an RPG fan. Just take a long at your own game preference and decide if the Wii going to get the games that match your preference and buy it if it is, if not, then don't buy it.
I own one and did not cost me since I had plenty of money at the time. The only game I can say thrilled me on the Wii is Fire Embelm. Outside that, nothing caught my eye. Zelda is a baffling 50 dollars even today. That game should have received a price cut after all this time. Only other game I'm interested in coming soon is the Tales title. So, two games, in two years. Not that impressive. It's not the RPG's have to dazzle me. Just release more of them, but again, Nintendo system struggling with releasing RPG's. There's another title coming soon and DQ: Swords, but that's it off the top of my head. I do need to get into Paper Mario, but just haven't found the time.

I dunno. I have one, and I'm none too thrilled with it. Here are my games:
-Zak and Wiki
-No More Heroes
-Ghost Squad
-house of the Dead 2 & 3
- Legend of Zelda
- Resident Evil 4
- Super mario galaxy
- Super smash bros brawl
- bunch of Virtual Console games
Honestly, the Virtual Console is where it's at for me. Granted, you could get roms of ANY of the games on the VC, I do enjoy playing them on my TV. None of the Wii Ware titles appeal to me (yet. There is one coming out that I'm interested in, but I don't know the name of it).
Game wise, all I'm looking forward to is the Tales of games, and De Blob. So that's what? Three games? I'm told I should try out the Fire Emblem games (as I love SRPGs), but I've never really given them a shot. So there's a chance of like, five games total, that I'm planning on buying.
So in total, I'd have 13 games, AT MOST, for my Wii. Assuming I don't sell any of them. While the games I have for it I absolutely love (No More Heroes will always hold a place in my heart) I'm not sure it's worth it for the console. My PS1 library outmatches the Wii library that I plan on having. hell, my dreamcast library does. So does my NeoGeo Pocket Color library. I'm totally not biter at all, lol.
However, I have a lot of friends coming over, and each time we have a large group of us, we end up renting Mario Party, or putting in some other party game (be it anywhere between 2 and 4 players), so that at least two of us can screw around with it. A lot of the girls here are into wii sports (only God knows why), WarioWare and Mario Party. As a party machine it does its job pretty well, and I think theferrell hit the nail on the head when saying that. No one comes over to play the 360 or the PS3, but the Wii.
I think if you plan on having a lot of people over, and they're into party games, you should get the Wii. Otherwise, spend the money elsewhere, and pick one up after a price drop, if you're still interested in picking up a couple games.

The only other games that this console sells is games to a company that doesn't make consoles anymore...which is SEGA. They might release some Golden Sun titles on this console, but if your into Fire Emblem and the Tales series, this might be worth the buy. Fire Emblem Radient Danw alone covinced me to buy this console, although the next Fire Emblem game will get released on the DS, there is no telling when more Tales and Fire Emblem games will be made on this console. Wanna know why that this console gets sold out alot more than any other system, it's because of the family games that the parents buys for their children. If you aren't into Mario,Sonic,Zelda,Tales,Fire Emblem, then otherwise I would recommend not buying this. This console does need to provide more RPGS though.

The Wii really only has a handful of spectacular games. Most of them are just really...kidish and random. There are certain games on the Wii that are amazing though.
Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Okami (heard very good reviews of)
Mario Kart Wii

That was originally released for the PS2 anyway though (and yes, a
very good game). It's not Wii exclusive. I'm not sure if we're talking about Wii exclusive games here, but I'd assume so since he's looking for a reason to buy the system...

Yeah I wouldn't get a Wii either man. I regret getting mine. For some reason I just couldn't really ever play it. I had 10 games for it and I didn't beat a single one. Every time I saw a game I wanted I was like "hey this might be cool" but I ended up never finishing it. The only Wii game I ever beat was No More Heroes and I borrowed that from a friend. =/
I sold mine not too long ago and I'm going to save up for a PS3. If you're a hardcore gamer then the Wii will be a huge disappointment. I feel stupid for all the money and time I wasted getting one.

Ah comon, is the Wii really that bad?? Sure the online is crap and the games aren't directed towards core gamers and all, although I heard The Conduit is going to be a bad ass game on the wii (FPS online).
Like the Wii is meant towards family fun more than the 360 and ps3, but they stilll have some really good games on the wii that are worth playing.

The Wii isn't a bad console. It's an awesome idea with the whole Wii functionality thing and if it had the right games and was handled properly by Nintendo it probably would be the best system. But unfortunately Nintendo doesn't care because they're making easy money from a bunch of causal gamers who buy the system like crazy. It's also just being used by developers who only care about making a quick buck. But I don't think this casual audience will last forever so they better be careful.

Nintendo is a system all about itself, and the only reason you would get a Nintendo system is for their own games. Here are the games I have for my Wii:
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy
Paper Mario
Smash Brothers
Zack and Wiki
So far, I have been pleased with all of those games and Mario Galaxy even surprised me. (Personally is my favorite platform game I've ever played.) In fact, there are still some games I want for the system, mainly Fire Emblem and Mario Kart, plus I am a bit interested in Geometry Wars. I am still also interested in some games that have yet to come out, first one being from the creators of Odin Sphere, the sequel to Tales of Symphonia and the new Wario game. (And I really hope they make a new Pikmin game on it as well.) But it kind of falls back to being a fan of Nintendo's franchise. Since I am and have found the games I have to be either decent or very good, I really can not say I regret buying it. In fact, I still prefer to have that over the PS3 at the moment.
