Yeah, just ordered this game online and I thought that I shall give this game a go since SO3 Till The End Of Time and the music tracks that I have listened too made me wanting to try this game out. Comments on whether that the game is good enough or not? No, I don't have the remake on the PSP as the Square Enix version is crap. I'm getting the original Playstation one freshly made by ENIX, only ENIX!

Looking forward to seeing Lenneth and Freya! happy.gif

I never played Valkyrie Profile, but I always wanted to play it (and will some day). I know the music is good though, since a few of the tracks seem to be reused in SO3, as you said.
Hope you enjoy the game.

I've only played a few hours or so of the original game, though I've played the entire second game, and loved it.

The original's got a handful of things to like about it, from the soundtrack to the pleasing-to-the-eyes 2-D sprites, and of course things like the recruitment of multiple characters, and the whole Norse mythology setting. My only problem with it, from what I've played, is how limited your time is for each chapter/period. It doesn't really give you much time to look around, and it makes you feel kind of rushed. Otherwise, it's got the same battle system as VP2, which I have nothing against. While some may not like the character-per-button setup (like in Star Ocean and the Tales series), I find it plenty enjoyable.

Since I haven't played that much of it, I really can't say much about the story one way or another, though. I can't imagine it's particularly terrible.

Why is the PSP version crap again? It is the very same fricking game! It is not a remake, it is a port.
The reason it was ported, was because VP2 was released, so they gave the people that still wanted to play the game, the chance to do so, on the PSP.

The only things that changed from the PSX version are the graphics, the cutscenes and some censorships removed/added (not precisely sure on this).

Anyway, VP is a good game and the music is great. Motoi Sakuraba makes great songs.

I have this same question and statement.

We are in the same boat. I purchased Valkyrie Profile a month or two ago and I am about to start playing it. I have some small games to beat first, but that one is coming quickly. I have some online friends so that it is fantastic, so my hopes are up for the game to be great. I watched the first movie of the game and I was really impressed with the graphics. They look so beautiful that it blew me away.

Paying 100 bucks for it made my wallet shed a tear, but hopefully it will be worth it.

And just think, if I sell my still brand new, never played copy...I'd be a rich man. Well not really.

The PSP version of Valkyrie Profile is actually the Japanese version of the release. The US version was indeed superior, though the PSP version adds in the neat cutscenes and well.. the game is awesome.

I have the PSP version. I liked the game, I stopped playing after a few hours though. Something about the "flow" of the game just didn't feel right. I dunno if it was the battles, or the dungeons, but I give the game a LOT of credit for its artisti design. It's script is VERY in depth, and the scenes are very well set-up

I may pick it up again in the future, who knows.
Manc
I bought it a few days ago and like it alot, messed up the characters though so I had to restart before I understod how it was supposed to be!

very good characters and so far decent story!

Not exactly on topic BUT. Today, I went out and bought VP2, my first shot of the franchise ever, and have been blown away. It is such an outstanding game. First and most obviously, the graphics are stunning. I have to say, were it not mostly side-scrolling, it'd be in the running for best looking PS2 ever for me. But the fact it doesn't have full 3-D explorable areas takes away a little. None the less, it has an astonishing look for a PS2 game and the side-scrolling thing is very unique, and helped set the game apart for me. I was worried the battle system, skill system etc et cwould all be overly confusing for me but these are easy to get in, great fun and addictive. I've only just reached Dipan since i spent like 3 hours just fighting around in the dungeon on the way, gettin gused to the system and the characters and unless this game takes a serious downturn, I have something very very special in front of me.

Same here. I played through about half of the PSP version and it was everything that the PS1 version was, if not a bit more, and it looked really good on the PSP screen as well. I congratulate you on getting the game, and I hope you got a good deal on the PS1 version since it goes for a lot these days, but unless the second half of the port miserably sucks then there was nothing wrong about getting the PSP version.

About the game itself, yeah, it has this "time limit" in the sense that you can only visit towns and dungeons and such so many times before you reach the end of the game. But you also have more then enough time to finish everything you want, so it never bothered me. Also, I recommend that you just go right to hard mode and see if you can handle it. It has the best dungeons that you can only explore in that mode, not to mention that you can not do the Serephic Gate if you play through hard mode and get the flame gems.

Personally I am a huge fan of VP series. Though Usually I tend to prefer side character then main characters =p *ehem*Llewelyn*ehem*

yeah that game make me go to the extend on memorising the Greater Magic Lines lol. Really awesome.

Anyways the PSP and PSX version has no difference. Just extra Animations and cutscenes. No change in plot what so ever.

You won't find a copy under 100 dollars.

2) Frequently Asked Questions
=================================

Q: Why is this game so expensive?

A: Supply and demand. Only 73,000 copies were sold in North America. In
addition, the game is extremely sensitive to scratches. The smallest scratch
can make it unplayable, so not all of those copies work. Combine that with
excellent word of mouth that this is a must-play game, and the game is
suddenly impossible to find for less than $100.

I think that explains everything why it is so expensive.

In the first scan, whoever thought that Lenneth would have a secret idendity name.

In this scan, whoever thought that Freya would have such beautiful offical artwork.

I consider the Japanese version to be superior. No censorship, no name changes, no stupid voices. Lezard Valeth sounds horrible in the American version. In the Japanese version he has a very deep voice, I believe the same voice as Dias from SO II and in the American version he sounds like a kid. Grey also has a very annoying voice, especially when he shouts ICICLE DISASTER!!!! The few glitches and interface menu that were better in the American version do not make this a better game for me. Besides, I always enjoy the Japanese voice overs more in any game.

I actually liked the Meowth voice that Lezard had in Valkyrie Profile, in fact I thought it only added to his character. Considering the kind of nut Lezard was, I can not imagine him with a deep, villainous voice.
Valince
The voice of him in VP2(english) - that guy has voiced a lot of "sinister" characters in NIS games I think. I could be wrong, but they have all sounded like him. For example; Ayatane's; tagging this because he's a villain for a bit(Ar Tonelico) VA sounds just like him.
Pesmerga
I do, I like the deep voices in villains, as it makes them sort of charismatic, it gives them a certain factor that you don't really get with high pitch voices. Generally, higher voices are sort of maniacal voices. Albedo is a good example of this. Great voice acting and fitting voice, as it is a very maniacal voice, due it being higher pitched, well that scene with all the robots and laughter anyway.

I also liked how Badrach was named Badrac in Japanese, which is a pun on Bad Luck, but the translators effed that up. =P
Bloo
Well, Jelanda has the correct bossy missy princess voice. Annoying but suitable.

Lezard had the Nerdy yet villainy voice.

Llewelyn has the weak yet powerful and faithful voice =p (I just have to say that)

So the English version is alright. =p
Pesmerga
VP1 US has awful voice overs, it really does. The second game does a major improvement on this though. Especially on Lezard who sounded 5 years old in VP1.

I also loathe Grey's voice, I really do and I find his Japanese voice again better. ICICLE DISASTER! Bleh.
Vilagen
I thought that Valkyrie Profile had some of the best voice acting for the PS1 generation. Don't get me wrong, VP2's voice acting is better, but the voice acting in part one wasn't really that bad. Granted, I never used Grey so I am not aware of how bad his voice acting was.
