So it seems to enjoy the next gen consoles, you have to enjoy FPS. Honestly, I haven't given the genre much of a chance past the original Doom, and TimeSplitters 2.
So I've decided I should really give it a go to get myself excited about buying a PS3 and also get some practice in. So being that I'm a PS2 whore, what is the best FPS for the PS2 and why?
Also keep in mind that I'm Novicy McNovice at FPS games and not very good at them at all, So something that might ease me in would be nice.
Call of Duty 3 seems to be cheap and easy to get hold of, is it any good?

There's really not too many solid FPS titles on the PS2 at all to be honest.
TS 2 and 3 are my favorites... And Darkwatch is pretty good.
I'd avoid anything else.

Star Wars Battlefront (1 and 2) are very fun. Not sure if you're a Star Wars fan, but they're pretty entertaining be it with one player or two (I usually have played with my brother).
There is a Conquest mode (try and control all of the planets), a Vs. mode (for two people), and I think the other is a Campaign or something. I don't remember what it's called, but you basically do things in the order of the movie what with fights and stuff. The second one is better (you get to use Jedi; space fights are much better than the first, where you don't actually go in space and the controls are really hard - I ended up just staying on the ground; and some of the places in the "Campaign" mode are quite difficult - it took my brother and I ages to get past the one scene that opens SW ep. IV in which Vader boards the ship Leia is on.). But the first one has some good planets that they didn't keep in the second, and it's not too hard. Well, once you get used to the second, it's not too hard either, but they're still fun to play.
I honestly haven't really played many other shooters (and these are more third person, not first person). I recently purchased TimeSplitters, but have yet to give it a go so I can't really say anything on it yet. I still recommend Star Wars Battlefront though...They're fun and easy to get into.

I was going to say Black, but that game gets hard and frustrating. Great FPS other than the difficulty though. I would say Timesplitters 2, that would be a good FPS to start with.
Cod3? Yeah, it is a good solid FPS. If you are in to World War type games then get that. Either Cod3 or TS2. Your choice.

Hahaha, people can say what they want, I played the heck out of and enjoyed Killzone dude, I'd give that a go. I'm not sure what the criticisms were but it seemed to rub some the wrong way, but I though tit was really good fun, me n my room-mate would play the battlefields for hours, stacking the odds against ourselves. Great game. I'll second the black recomendation too.

I wouldn't buy Killzone unless you want to trudge around in a game at 5 FPS with weapons that are strangely ineffective.
I bought it myself because I got it for like 10 bucks and figured if it was at least average it would be worth the price... Unfortunately it was not. Must have sold it because it's not on my shelf anymore... Don't remember selling it though.

I'd recommend Battlefront, but with consoles I have a problem with switching from 3rd person to 1st person, since you'd have to switch from and to inverted y-axis. D:
So go with TS or something that's permanent on one

Again, what can I say, game wasn't viewed well by some of the hardcore gaming community XD I play just about any FPS I can get my hands on though, and Killzone genuinely ranked up very high on my list of favourites, due to the sheer fun I had playing it. Bad taste? Maybe. I don't know. I look for fun in a game, and I found it in killzone. ^^

Black certainly Piques my interest (being that I can get a pre-owned copy dirt cheap) and everyone's biggest gripe with it seems to be the Length (which again, for the price I'll be paying, it hardly bothers me). My real worry is the difficulty, I have a feeling this isn't going to be the game that eases me into the FPS genre.
Still tempted with COD3, not sure if WWII games are my thing, Although I do remember that I enjoyed the first Medal Of Honour, but mostly just the multiplayer (Jumping around as Churchill and shooting ##### to bits... yes please) and the undercover missions, so maybe this is my thing.
I already own TS2, and I'll have to start playing it again but I still fancy something a bit more... modern.
Cheers for the suggestions, keep 'em coming...

My friend just recommended a game called Cold Winter to me today saying its really good (also found it for $10). I didn't buy it because I'm not really in an FPS mood at the moment, but hes pretty big into games so it very well may be a quality game.
Now that I think about it though, I don't think I own a single FPS for the PS2.

If you get Black you can turn the difficulty to the easiest setting. The normal setting was easy enough but could get hard at some points. Easy would be a nice start to a great game. Also, nearly all buildings, walls and such that you shoot at in Black will break and smash. Which works very well. It is probably the best looking FPS on the Playstation 2.

I loved how it was basically like playing a bigass action movie XD The game pretty much never let up either, really badass. Just.....no multiplayer. I c\an see why, but a fps without multiplayer just seems like the dumbest idea ever.

True, that would have been such a badass multiplayer if it did have it. Considering its an old game now and Flame just wants some practice for the next generation of FPS's, and Black would be the best to play.

I'm pretty sure there was alot of talk about there being a sequel or two to black as well, but pretty much any mention of that has died out

Wasn't the original Half-Life released on the PS2?
If you want an awesome FPS, buy that one and enjoy the hell out of it. I think it was released at the beginning of the console, so it might be a little rare, but totally worth it.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one. Nice one Markies. Stuff Black, get Half-Life instead.

I never heard that myself. Would be great if there was a next gen version. Imagine the carnage!
