I honestly think and beleive that Grandia 2 was a waaayyy better Dreamcast game than Skies of Arcadia. I beleive it even came out before Skies.... so i dunno why Skies is so overrated...

What a coincidence. I think SoA is a triumph in gaming history and that the Grandia games are nothing special and are a wee bit over-rated.
To each their own, I suppose. :0)

Never played Granida, but Skies had a number of things going for it such as ship battles (which were really fun), an interesting story that wasn't overly complicated, a (in my opinion) cool world, and on top of all that, the standard campaign, if I remember correctly, was about 40 hours long without side quests.
Overall, I don't really see it as overrated, it was a DAMN good game.

Both have a pretty big support group. I don't really see how one could be overrated compared to the other considering that. I mean, when you have two sides saying the other game is overrated, that says something doesn't it? =p.
Either way, I haven't played either. Well, I've played about fifteen minutes of Grandia II (to make sure the used copy for PS2 worked), but that's hardly enough to count. Still searching for a copy of SoA though.

Definetely to each their own. You can argue a game is better than Grandia, but I think its difficult to say its over-rated, hardly anyone on here even plays them, and this is primarily an rpg gaming forum. G2 is the freaking pwn imo. I neve rplayed Skies of Arcadia unfortunately.

Yeah, you're probably right. I think it's just been living with a Grandia nut for two years that makes me feel that way.
It's been a long time since I played Grandia.... hard to believe it's been out for almost ten years.

I haven't played any Grandia game, though I still want to.
However, I believe Skies of Arcadia is a very solid RPG and definitely gives you the full package. Maybe it missed a bit interaction between Vyse and one of the two female characters, like in-depth character development, but that never got anywhere.
However, sailing(flying) around the world, discovering things, nice battle animations, good story and sidequests gives this game a good rating in my book.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends (the Gamecube port) is an amazing game and one of my favorites.
Grandia II (ported to the PS2) was also a damn good game. Millenia is just an awesome character, but Roan just didn't sit right with me. I hated Roan.

I have played both Grandia 2 versions, Grandia 1, and both Skies of Arcadia versions, and Skies is far better than all Grandia's in each way:
> Story wise
> Character wise
> Graphic wise
> Sound Wise
> Content wise
Don't get me wrong, Grandia 2 is a good game, but it pails in comparison to Skies of Arcadia. For anyone who has not played Skies. You should get it as you will not be disappointed
To Pes:
If you ever get the chance, you should get Grandia as it is far better to Grandia 2, except the graphics of course.

SoA was alright. I never understood why it was such a huge favorite either. I suppose on two consoles with an extremely dry RPG outlet it's definitely a solid one.

Yeah, I've also heard that Grandia >>>>> Grandia 2. But I never played Grandia 2.
And I've heard some downright ugly things about Grandia 3.

By Grandia 3 do you mean Grandia: Extreme or Grandia 3 itself? I have wanted to play Grandia 3 for a while now, but don't know if it is any good.
You should definitely give Grandia 2 a go.

I mean the actual Grandia III. I haven't heard anything about the former. But I've heard that Grandia III is pretty mediocre at best.
But I take that with a grain of salt. I don't really use reviews to get a handle on games.

Weird. I thought Square-Enix helped with Grandia 3. I don't think it was released in Europe was it?

Veto. I have to recomend against that to Pes. Grandia? Good fun game, nice plot with a good battlesystem. G2? Perfects the system and provides a bette rplot with more interesting characters. Graphics is a moot point: I felt both games had average to poor graphics, but G2 still is an excellent game, and far superior to the original imo.
On the G3 point i unfortunately didn't come out here

I found Grandia's story to be better than Grandia 2's. Much better and epic if you will. Yes, Grandia 2 did improve the battle system, but the battle system is still good but they are basically the same. The only decent characters in Grandia 2 were Ryudo, Ryudos evil brother, Mereg and Millenia, the rest are wank, especially that robot chick. Grandia had a much better cast, Imo. Grandia had much better areas and bosses too.
The only annoying thing now is I cant find my copy of Grandia, as I want to play it.

Well, fair enough, but since this is a recomendation, I would very strongly disagree, but again its your opinion. If you feel mos tof the characters were "wank" then I don't feel particularly compelled to argue further against anyway, its a pretty definitive opinion. I'm sure we can agree both are great games though. The grandia series needs another installment <3
Let me know how that goes btw, if you can't find it, I'll grab mine from my parents house next time i'm over, could mail you it over. I will likely never play it again XD weirdly the g-force game shop in glasgow has a brand new copy for like, £15. I remember it going for hiiigh prices on ebay.

I agree, A new Grandia would be awesome, but I still want to play Grandia 3. Both Grandia and Grandia 1 are amazing.
Thanks, that's very generous. Would that be free.

I actually got to the final boss of Grandia and was not strong enough.(
I skip battles in areas sometimes when I get bored) I actually picked up my PS1 Grandia copy for like £3 brand new many years ago. The funny thing is, I have all my other PS1 rpgs but not Grandia. I will have another search later to see.
I tell you would be even better, Grandia on the DS! The graphics were sprites so it would fit.
