Don't we miss those days? T__T Pulling out our little gaming console/handheld and playing it for hours and hours at these hilarious 16-bit/32-bit games?

For old time's sake, what are some highlights from your childhood when it came to gaming? What consoles did you own, and what games pretty much made childhood ##### awesome?
Dragon Brigade
PlayStation 1 for:

Spyro: Probably what got me into gaming in general. More Insomniac greatness.

Legend of Dragoon: First rpg I saw/played, had a hey-day with the imagination. I used to go play with fake swords, doing all the people's additions. xD. Yup. Role-played with my cousin essentially, even though she had no idea what the game was. I would never do something like that now, haha. =).

Crash Bandicoot: Fun adventure game / racing. Good multi-player memories. My mom even played it once. Needn't say more. >.o.

NFL Gameday: Dislike sports games, but my brother and I have some...fond memories. =p.

Nascar: Again, don't like these games, but played it with my brother.

Twisted Metal: Fun multi-player.

Computer:

Star Wars Dark Forces: I never beat this game on my own without using cheats. I'd watched my brother and sister play it and beat it so many times, but I couldn't seem to do it by myself. The only other games were things like Sim Ant, etc. Oh! There was this one meteor game too (shot down meteors with a ship floating uselessly in space, picking up medic kits along the way), but I don't remember what it was called. Oh well.

GBA:

Pokemon Red. This game gave me so much grief. It's pretty much all I did in fourth grade. At the time, my family was moving to a new house, so we stayed in my Grandma's basement til the house was done (remodeling my other grandma/grandpa's house, actually), so I basically just played Pokemon for ages. Got all 150 Pokemon in it. *sigh*.

Golden Sun 2 finally surfaced, but I didn't get that til sixth grade I think (and bought the first within a week of beating the second as soon as a used copy was available). Played it all the way through the drive to Florida and back. I really was addicted to the game, and did just about nothing else for weeks.

Those lasted me through probably third ---> sixth grade right there. Good ol' late 90s.
Markies
Time to feel old...

I remember the nights I spent playing Pong. My friend had it and we would play it for hours. I also remember the nights we spent on his TI and Intellivision.

We had an Atari 2600. Pitfall was awesome and a blast to play. I remember being incredibly disappointed in Pac-Man and how terrible ET was. I also remember some other titles that are escaping me.

I think my main memories come from the NES. The hours I played Tecmo Super Bowl with my brother. The first experience of playing Legend Of Zelda and then constantly playing it. Also, beating that game over 12 times. Super Mario Brothers 3 was fun, but hard for me to play. The hours and hours and hours I played Dr. Mario & Tetris. The first time I originally picked up Final Fantasy. Mega Man 2, Ducktales, Castlevania, Dragon Warrior, Little Nemo......too many classics to name.
Dragon Brigade
Oh, I forgot to mention Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons for the GBC. I remember having to help my brother beat Seasons, and linking to Ages right after I beat Seasons (for the added story). Good memories, that. I also managed to beat Ages before my sister (she got stuck at the mermaid/ocean temple). First time anybody ever beat a game before she did in my family, haha. =).

what age do you consider childhood?

lets start at where i can remember, age 8 i had an NES. I distinctly remember Zelda 2 and i could hardly read and Punch Out that taught me how to fight, i remember beating up a fat kid that was much bigger than me by imitating bald bulls punches.

fast forward to age 10 & 11 and by then i had discovered RPGs and remember Final Fantasy 1 my first RPG for 8 bucks with the box and then Dragon Warrior, oh how i suffered with Dragon Warrior. Me and two buddys would discover RPGs and play them together the likes of Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy 3, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Chrono Trigger.. then we went our seprate ways in middle school... On my own i conquered Breath of Fire, Robotrek, Breath of Fire 2 (ps1 era release), and many other SNES rpgs till its death

Man, back in the day we had a sinclair out our house \m/ this badass cassette playing video game thing. I had ninja turtles, super ted and all kinds of badass sizzle. I remember when i was 4 getting sonic on the master system, and that literally kept me occupied until i was like 10-11 haha. Good times.

I dunno, whatever you considered your childhood? *___*

sdjfk;jf;ja;ldfj goddd I remember back when I was like, 7 I got my first Gameboy color. I got the trippy purple see-through one, and it's actually still sitting on my desk to this day. Pokemon Red was my first game since my cousin got Pokemon Blue, but it was so fun. *o* After that it was like nonstop Pokemon Yellow, and then Gold, and the Silver, and the occasional Harvest moon.

I also played a lot with my cousin's SNES. We only really played that Mystical Ninja game, but it was so fun and intense.

My first console as a kid though was the Sega Genesis. It wasn't even really mine, it was my brother's. But when I was like, 4-5 years old, me and my cousin would button-mash to kill robots in Terminator 2 lols. :D Epic game.

I had an Atari of some kind of other, and at some point, a Colecovision (sp?). I don't really remember what games we played on those, though, other than stuff like Donkey Kong. We eventually skipped right over the NES and went straight to the SNES. Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Donkey Kong Country... I'm sure there were a few others, but those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

SNES lasted me up 'til I got my PSX, so I'll just leave my "childhood" there. I still occasionally play some of the old SNES games, though using an emulator. My SNES still works and all, but I just never really feel like using it.
Nocinderella
My first experience of video games that I can remember was the sega. My cousins owned one and all we did was take turns playing Sonic and umm something that including playing a Fox where you could switch your character to a hippo to knock down stone blocks hehe. Oh and Alex the Kid of course. I was probably around 7-8 years old.

I got my first playstation for Christmas from my parents when I was 9 or 10. My cousin had Barbie Race and Ride so that was the first ps game I played on my own console, good times happy.gif I fell in love with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, the 2nd games in their series being my favourites.

After that came my gameboy colour when I was 11. It had a picture of a Pikachu where the power light was smile.gif Pokemon Red and Silver were the only games I ever bought for it. I've still got it!

There's a few games I know I'll saddly never play again (unless maybe I find and get the roms for them someday in the future IF they are out there):

River Raid and Desert Falcon.

Joust and so many other Atari games got thrown out onto the classic packs, but River Raid and Desert Falcon just never got the love X/ (*randomly pondered if the Wii will release Rocket Knight Adventures on the virtual consol now*)

Feels like there are so many games there were significant to my childhood, it's hard to know where to start. But the first console I had was the NES. I remember you either got Super Mario or Ice Climber + Duck Hunt. I got Super Mario so I used to play Duck Hunt and Ice Climber with my friends who had it. And I was probably the only one who had this game, but it was called Anticipation. It was a board game that was also a spelling game. lol
TMNT 2 and 3 were some of my favorites. Turtles was the biggest thing ever back then. The Megaman games were also huge. I remember playing an imported Megaman 4 (It said Rockman on the cover) on a converter (the Japanese cartridges were about half the size of the normal ones). There was one guy who had the game and everyone wanted to borrow it. You needed some good bargaining chips to get it.
And playing Zelda 2 at my friends house was another highlight. He had all the Zelda games, and I didn't so I usually played them at his house. And I remember my first girlfriend also had Zelda 2 and Metroid, and we used to play them at her house a lot. I remember she was better at them than me, which impressed me. And her older sister was even better at Zelda 2 and I remember she used the downward stab to bounce off enemies consecutively a lot better than I could. Which I thought was incredibly hot for some reason. lol

And one of my friends used to have that old brick black-and-green Gameboy as well. I remember Kung Fu for it was pretty fun. And most of all Zelda: Link's Awakening. Still my favorite Gameboy game to this day. I remember borrowing his Gameboy and all his games when he went on vacation one summer. Fun times.

When SNES came I remember there were these demo booths in stores where you could play Super Mario World. But some of the owners shut it off after 10 minutes. =/
Street Fighter 2 was one of the first games I played, and I remember having difficulties doing the Dragon punch with Ken and Ryu. lol
Castlevania 4, Turtles in Time, Mario Kart, Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link to the Past, etc. Those were some of the early games for the system that I played and fell in love with. And my friend had something called "Gamedoctor" that could play copied SNES games from floppy discs. I remember we got a hold of quite a few Japanese games through that method, including a lot of Dragonball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho games that were never released outside of Japan.

But the most important thing with SNES might be that it got me introduced to RPG's. The first one I played was Secret of Mana, with a multipad adaptor so I could play it together with my friend. It was such a great experience. Then later my other friend (who had the Gamedoctor) got a tactical RPG from Square from japan called Bahamut Lagoon. But due to not being able to understand it we never finished the game.
A while after that another friend got Chrono Trigger, which was so amazing at the time that I refused to go home and eat, in case I'd miss something good. I remember how much my stomach hurt that evening when I finally went home. lol

As for Playstation and N64, I think my perspective on videogames was a bit different when they came out. But many of the games still felt magical. Mario 64 for example. The favorites on N64 goes without saying. The usual. Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Zelda, etc.
Playstation also continued to expand on my favorite genres, fighting games and rpg's mainly. Toshinden and King of Fighters 96. Final Fantasy 7 and Wild Arms. Those were some early favorites. And it also got me into the horror genre with Resident Evil.

Good times.

Holy crap, It's like reading my biography. Our family didn't get a console until the Master System and so all my gaming came from my brother's sinclair. The game I remember the most would have to be Dizzy, man I loved that game... I think I was better at it then than I am now.

Then came the Master System when I was about 4 and I basically played it all day (I miss those days before I had to go to school sad.gif ) With Sonic being my favourite. However my brothers got pissed off when they discovered that I was completing their games before they were. I used to love Sonic Chaos (Tails was my favourite character at that time) and Alex Kidd. Hell I even enjoyed Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusion.

I also used to love the game gear, my favourites were Streets of Rage and Shinobi (I loved having control of all the different Ninjas).

The GameBoy brought more delights, in particular Zelda, Links awakening. It was the first game I truly really loved. I really enjoyed the Story (Although there is next to no plot, it was still more then I was used to) and the puzzle aspect. It was the first time I was given the oppotunity to explore this huge world.

Of Course next came the Playstation era (Which brought my FFVII and my obsession of RPGs) as well as pokemon (But I was about 12 or 13 at that point so I wouldn't consider it my childhood).

I'm only sad I never get a Snes... then again a lot of the good games were never released in this country.

The old days Huh. Nice.

I remember the old Sonic, Mario and Zelda days. Was great to play old Super Mario World, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and a Link to the past.

The multiplayer days were equally as awesome. First a group of us used to play Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 and Bomberman on the great Snes, and when the Nintendo 64 was around we played some great titles such as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, WWF No Mercy and good old Worms Armageddon.

I could go on for ages at all the games, consoles and good times I had.

I just remember having a S/NES back when I was quite young, used to play Mario non stop and I had Hook, Flintstones and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I used to love that game but my Personal favorite was Maniac Mansion, so many years ago i must have been like 6,7 or 8.

After reading Athrun's post here, I don't feel like there's too much I could say about my first days of gaming that would be too different from his. From SMB, to the booths of SMW in stores, to discovering the pure awesome of Link's Awakening, to getting into SF2. Even right down to having trouble executing the Dragon Punch (seriously, I couldn't do it for like a year XD).

And Turtles totally was the biggest thing ever back then. ^^

Back when I was a wee tiny child, I remember the NES being my favorite thing. Games like TMNT: The Arcade Game, Adventures of Dino Riki, R.C. Pro-Am, Xexyz and Ice Hockey were my life. Then there were the big ones like Mario 3 and Punch Out. Man, those were the days. Gaming was so simple and fun.

Then the SNES came out. After destroying SMW about a billion times, I finally got into RPGs. I borrowed Lufia and the Fortress of Doom and Final Fantasy IV from two separate friends. My gaming days were changed forever. I found Final Fantasy VI cheap in a pawn shop and was officially an RPG gamer. That eventually got me to where I am now, playing almost exclusively RPGs.

This makes me kinda miss the days when gaming was more about having fun than cool graphics. =(

My first gaming experience came with playing a NES. I got it along with a 2-games-cartridge: Mario Bros & Duck Hunt (orange gun to point and shoot at screen included).

I also remember having a cool game that you could play with 2, either as a blue-colored guy with a sword or as a red-colored girl with shuriken. I played it often with my sister, but I can't remember the title of that game anymore. =/

Of course Zelda 1 & 2 were also two games I enjoyed very much (yes, I liked Zelda 2).

Next up: the SNES! Got it along with Super Mario Bros. I also got Zelda: A Link to the Past, which lasted me several months. Hey, I didn't have Internet back then to look up walkthroughs online. =P

Actually, on SNES I got several RPG's: Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time/Gaia, but those are all action-RPG's. I didn't know what turn-based battles were until I got a PSX (and FFIX was my first RPG on the PSX, and also the first turn-based battlesystem RPG I ever touched).

At some point, I also bought a Game Boy. But I can't remember if that was before or after I got the SNES. I don't recall there being many Game Boy games I really liked, except for: Zelda: Link's Awakening, Mystic Quest (not to be confused with Mystic Quest for SNES, though if I'm not mistaken the SNES one is only called Mystic Quest in Europe to begin with), and a very difficult Simpsons game. xD

Next came the PSX, but I suppose that doesn't really count as childhood time anymore. So I'll leave it at this. =)

I think that's Blue Shadow.

Yeah I played this game as well. It was pretty fun. I remember the main characters could swing themselves on top of the ledges they grab unto, so it felt more ninja style, and they had some cool attacks.

Here's a guy that runs through the game in under 10 mins.

Yes! That's the game! I recognised it instantly. ^^ Nice vid, btw. Doubt I could ever do that. ô_ô
