If you guys ever flip through art museums, or generally look through art anywhere, which do you prefer looking at; The Classical stuff such as Renaissance, Medieval, etc. or do you prefer looking at Modern/Contemporary stuff such as Impressionism, and Pop Art?
Any particular favs? 8D

Hmm, well if it's modern art, I don't like anything controversial. Just a nice looking painting. Not like those weird sculptures composed of various junk pieces that makes no sense. But I prefer to look at older art. Mainly portraying nature, like Monet.

This one for example.

I am not a fan of the still life paintings. However, the more modern stuff does catch my eye.
Though, classical paintings, such as the sunflowers of van Gogh and the Night watch from Rembrandt are always good to see.

Hmm...I don’t really mind either, to be honest. No real favorites. I guess if I had to chose though, I’d go with more of the classical stuff. I dunno.

I agree with Athrun. it has to be art and not something... "is this supposed to be art?"
the artist have to have made some kind of effortfor it to be art in my eyes, so foto's usually don't do for me!

Wow, I'm almost the opposite of you guys lols. :D
I love modern and contemporary works. *o* I love how crazy they are. :D and I especially love the thought that goes into them too. *_____* I've especially leaned a lot more towards the contemporary artists and the DADA movement. I really like the classics too, since they tell you a lot about what was going on during that era and it's generally a pretty look-at, but I have much more fun going to a contemporary wing any day. :D

Thats controversial.
Hmmmm....though, I'm more in between I would say. I do like art from both areas, though I'm more geared to the Classical side of art. There's more warmth in them, than in modern stuff. Dont get me wrong, modern has its own uniqueness. It's just that there isn't much there. Like you said, Classical has a way of showing you what went on during that era. =)
I do enjoy the randomness that can be modern art at times, and thats about the only reason why I like it.

Modern art for sure.
Especially glass blowing.
I don't really have any particular favourites but contemporary glass work is amazing.
There are a lot of amazing classics.
Van Gogh's Starry Night is great. Most of Van Gogh's work is amazing.
Maurits Escher is another one of my favourites from the Classical Era of art.
Reflection In A Glass Ball is probably my favourite classical work.
I have more actual Classic favourites only because I've studied it more.
Though I have yet to study it, contemporary is more interesting and eye catching.
It makes me think a lot more.
As Rina said, "I have much more fun going to a contemporary wing any day."

I love Markus Pierson and his Coyote Series. I love the richness of the colors he applies to his subject and I LOVE the writings he puts on his paintings. I don't care much for his sculptures, though. I feel as though they look better on canvas with oils.
I'm not the greatest at classifying art, but I think he is considered modern art? I saw his artwork in a Modern Art museum, so I'm just gonna go by that.
Another favorite of mine is a person whose name I don't remember but his pictures that I saw all had a champagne bottle, a broadway show playbill, and another item relating to the broadway. For instance, he had a painting called, "Dancing Through Life" which had the champagne bottle, the Wicked playbill, and a yearbook. I love the way he uses oils. The champagne in the glass with the fizzy bubbles and the reflections of light in the glass was sooooo cool.
I like modern art more than classical because I feel like the paintings have a lot more to say visually. And, yeah, sometimes they don't, but I just love looking at them. They can be so weird or so beautiful and, just in general, I stop to look at them more than I would a classical piece. Although I think art nouveau is visually eye-catching, as well as impressionist paintings.
BUT! I LOVE surrealism. Renee Magritte. <3 That's probably why I like Markus Pierson...there's a lot of Magritte in his stuff, I think.
I really don't know much about art though. Wish I did.
