Yeah, ever since the info on III, I've kinda been in the mood for II lately, myself. Only problem is I can't find anyone to play with. D:

I used to play on USEast, but due to friend circumstances when I started my new account, I play on USWest now. My main character's a level 74 paladin (Zeal), though I've been meaning to work on a sorceress (fire) and necromancer (bone). I haven't got anything particularly amazing, though I've got a handful of items I could give out, including some druid gear, and I've got two sets of Titan's Revenge with no idea what to do with them, hah. So, depending on what class you'd choose, I may be able to hook you up with some stuff.

If we can get enough people from Dreamers to play (really just two more, I guess, lol), I'll hop back on. I currently don't have a character/account, but I have the discs ready to go.

I guess I could go for it as well.

That's paladin shields for you.

As for Death's stuff, it's a "set." Remember the equipment sets in Suikoden V? It's basically like that. Though, in D2, set items give bonuses not only for completing the set, but for partially completing the set as well. Individual pieces might gain bonuses as you add on to your collection of the set, and other bonuses are just additional ones given from partially/fully completing the set.

You can find all of the other sets and their special bonuses there as well, so feel free to browse.

Also, try increasing the resolution setting for your game. The default is 800x600, I think, though you can increase it once, and by doing so (through the video settings in the Options menu), you can gain some shortcuts in your toolbar on the bottom of the screen for adding stat points and skill points. (And I'm sure it'll make the game look a bit better as well.) Just a handy option, though far from important, so it's up to you.

And I changed the resolution to 800x600, which is the highest. It was lower before. It looks a bit better now, and I like that the stats buttons don't appear on the screen any more.

I also made a Sorceress.
It's more fun to teleport rather than walk.

Tal Rasha's is pretty much the sorceress set, so good luck with that, haha. Though I do have... the mask, I think. Which server are you playing on?

Unfortunately I'm only playing single player mode. I need to buy the game again to get on battle.net.
I might do that next week. I'll use my 242% chance to find rare item set to find my Tal Rasha items. =p

I remember my lovely nova sorc (which they bloody nerfed ><) at level 98 with almost full tal rasha, plus a shako and a lidless wall, I think. Of course the stone of jordan cannot be overseen =P.

You know, if everyone would write down what server they play on, I could install the game and look up the same server. I believe there is no limitation, as to what continent you could play on?

If you had full Tal Rasha's equipped, then there's no way you could also have a shako equipped at the same time. =P Nevermind, I'm dumb. ^^;

I think I mentioned it earlier, but I play on USWest. I'm pretty sure living on different continents shouldn't cause any problems.

Yeah, my mind apparently just skipped over the "almost" part until Atty mentioned it later. ^^;

Getting everyone on one server is just a pain for those who already have accounts/characters, like myself. I've already got a level 70-something paladin, as well as a 30-something barbarian (mule, though), and then the low-level guys I started not too long ago. I've got a handful of things I could probably give away if anyone starts playing, too. (Nothing amazing, but good for low-ish levels.) That all said, if you don't already have an account started otherwise, feel free to start up on USWest, y'all.

USWest ain't bad at all. Actually, when I first made the move, I thought it was a bit better than USEast. Just less connectivity problems and such.

I ahve a lvl 83-84 Fire Sorc on West. Some really nice stuff on her, too. I have a decent MF, and I know I've helped Chal out as I found stuff.
I also have a lvl 60 something Zeal/Smiter pally, although he's still a work in progress. I haven't played for a number of weeks/months... Should probably start again, I suppose...

They're frowned upon because they're all worthless in end game outside of hammerdins. =P

Zealadins were good up until 1.10. I mean they're still passable now in end game if you have great gear, but they pale in comparison to their hammer tossing brethren.

And I've got no name. D2 drives me insane because I deal with it all day.

Yeah, so lvl 85 Fire Sorc. About 8k Fireball. 16k Meteor.
Lvl 65 Zeal/Smiter pally.
His existance is kinda experimental with his gear setup. Looking at the calculations I've done and the information I've looked into from The Arreat Summit, he'll be doing just as much damage as every other zeal pally, if not more. With his smiting, that was more to make him end game worthy.

Yeah, I understand that they're so much more powerful and all... I dunno, it just bugs me, somehow. Can't really explain it. Inferior or not, I personally find Zealers more fun to play, so I still use 'em just for that reason.

I never really understood Smiterdins. I tried making one, edited (though realistically), and damage-wise, they don't really deal as much as others... Though upon closer inspection, I noticed Smite has a pretty nice stun time. So, is the stun the reason for using it? I imagine it could be handy against bosses, assuming the stun works on them, but otherwise, I don't see the point.

Smiters are for PvP and Ubers.

Oh, right, PvP. Duh. By "Ubers," I'm assuming you mean the three bosses, right? That's what I recall reading about Smiterdins for originally. Smite + life leech, right? So the stun works on them, then?

Yeah ubers are the last 3 bosses altogether done in Tristram after you get all the parts to create the portal.

As for smiters, yup... You just sit there and stun the ##### out the ubers and they can't do much. Same with PvP.

If you guys want to make super sick characters and have the time... I'd check out the battle.net build thread. It has some great links to guides for tons of builds for every class. Explains how you should spend your skill/stat points as well as what gear to try... Generally most builds will list a " rich " or " poor " version depending on how serious you are about the game. Meaning you can make the build still but with marginal equipment.

There really isn't any reason not to, as long as you don't have any characters on NL already...
Ladder just has access to better items and Cube transmutations, while NL simply doesn't. Outside of that, there isn't a big difference, I've found. Both me and Chalryn have discussed that finding Runes seems to be easier, but that's only speculation, really.

And to continue the smiter discussion:
Smite+Fantasam= Speed god. With high enough attack speed, you don't stop bashing. Combined with even a decent stun, it leaves things totally helpless. Also, with Life Tap it makes you unable to die as long as you continue attacking.

Also, Crushing Blow still works with Smite. Deadly Strike does not, but Crushing Blow does. Crushing Blow takes down 1/16 of an enemy's current health, or something along those lines. So basically, having a 35% chance to blow off 1/16 of their health and being in a situation where they quite literally can't fight back, it's just a battle of time.

Also, you're using a pally. Great resists+awesome defense+increasing all other physical attacker's power and speed makes you a prime candidate for almost any situation, regardless of your own primary function.

And for Athrun, I'll be sure to keep any Tal items I come across, although I can't promise a lot. That particular set is sought after a lot, so I may only be able to get a couple of the less valuable items...


Edit: Apparently because my characters expired, they are now Nonladder. How this works, I have no idea, but it seems I'm starting off with everyone else, despite other characters on NL.

Second Edit: I have a lvl 6 Sorc on Ladder, as of now. No skill points spent because I still don't know what kind I want to choose this time...

Remember, I play sorc as well, so I could use that set as well =D. Considering Athrun isn't online yet, I should get them first =D.

They're non ladder because the ladder reset recently. All characters that were ladder prior to like a couple months ago were dropped to non ladder to start the new ladder season.

What? The Ladder just got reset last summer... Jeez, never realized it was set every year, but that may have been a detail I never knew about...

Alright, back to starting out new. If anyone needs help with anything, just ask, and I'm sure someone here can help...

So what's this ladder and non-ladder crap?

"Ladder" refers to... well, the ladder. When a ladder season starts, players can create ladder-specific characters, and compete to reach the top through leveling and whatever. It's basically just a race to level 99, far as I know. Sometimes, Blizzard gives prizes or something, though I don't think they always do.

When playing on the ladder, you have access to a handful of nifty items that are ladder-only (including ladder-only rune words), and you also have access to a few more formulas for the Horadric Cube.

When the ladder is reset, all ladder characters will be converted to non-ladder. If they are carrying any ladder-only items, those items are carried over, and still usable, but you will not be able to find/create any more of them.
