I would prefer a Zelda over a Mario game, personally...Unfortunately there’s not much to go on other than these two teams are apparently working together.

Never mind the wicked -- there's no rest for anybody at Nintendo. Speaking at the company's E3 2008 press conference, whip-cracking president Satoru Iwata insisted that the Mario and Zelda teams were "both hard at work" on "new titles."
And? Um ... and that's it. No further hints, clues, or suggestive winks, though we're placing our money on Link and/or Mario being involved somehow (duh), and with good reason -- a future that lacks a Zelda game with 1:1 swordfighting really doesn't bear thinking about.

Haha. =p. I should hope not. They’ve been saying they were going to work on a Mario Galaxy 2, so that might be one of the projects.
And scratch what I said on them “working together” in my first post. False statement entirely.

How about a Zelda Teaches Typing? Watch out for that semicolon key or Ganondorf will getcha!
Anyway, I'm moderately interested. I've been on the fence with a Wii since it came out. I really was interested in a couple Mario titles on there, like Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario, since I loved both, especially Mario 64, that was really fun. But I'd probably just use the Wii to buy the original Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG. Classics. I've never actually played a Zelda game, but I would like to try Ocarina of Time out someday. I heard the Zelda series has come to an end, so maybe its too little, too late. Just rumors I guess, Zelda all around has sounded kind of dire lately though. The last one looked good though, forgot what it was called. XD

Oh come now! Mario Teaches Typing from way back in the day was entertaining. Seriously.
The last Zelda (for Wii, not DS) was Twilight Princess. It got extremely mixed reviews. I would hardly say it’s come to an end though. I mean...the developers of Zelda are hard at work. =p. Then again, it’s possible they’re working on something new entirely, but...still. I’m hoping for that “new, innovative Zelda like no other”.

Not really a very big surprise, I'd assume they would do something with their biggest franchises or at least the people that develop them. Zelda has yet to have a proper game for the Wii (Twilight princess was a Gamecube game afterall) but really there isn't enough information to get excited or even speculate...

I really am looking forward to Zelda's first Wii game.
I am actually more interested in Mario than Zelda at the moment, not because I prefer once franchise over the other, but because I think it is harder to assume what Mario's next big adventure is going to be compared to Zelda. No matter what the next Zelda game accomplishes, we all know it is going to involve some temples and traveling around Hyrule. Though perhaps Nintendo will shock us again and try to pull something off from left field like they did with Majora's Mask.
Mario on the other hand just had a game about the ##### Galaxy. Where the hell do you take the series after that without making it feel inferior? Granted, I am sure Nintendo will think of something fun for the next true Mario game, but I honestly think I will not see anything live up to Galaxy for the next few years at least.

My thoughts exactly. I would consider Nintendo fools if they weren't working on anything concerning Mario or Zelda, considering the marketability of the franchises. Lols, it's a shame the news clipping is so vague, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles. Either way, it's kind of obvious they would be working on something like Mario and Zelda.....I'm just saying.

Mario Galaxy 2? No thanks, number 1 was enough for me. The Mario and Zelda series are starting to get stale now. I can manage one more Zelda in the same way as usual, but Mario I can not. Still, Nintendo are good at surprises so I cannot wait until what they can show.

I'm the same way, only with the series's flopped. Zelda has been state to me for a long time now. Mario is starting to get stale too. But at least the Mario series tries to switch things up from game to game, however superficial.
But yeah, Nintendo will have to excuse me for not getting riled over another Zelda title or a sequel to the last Mario game.

The Phantom Hourglass was something different as it was fun to use the stylus. Twilight Princes was great, but just a blatent Ocarina of Time ripoff.
The rumor going around seem to be true, A Galaxy sequel and a DS sequel to Super Mario Bros. Bring back Yoshi, and make it like Super Mario World.

If the DS Zelda team is helping out the Wii Zelda team, it could mean either of two things. One -- the next Wii Zelda is going to be beyond awesome. Two -- will the DS successor to Phantom Hourglass be neglected for longer than desired? It could cause longer development cycles, but the overall product will surely benefit from the extra talent.
Mitamoto explained that "the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version." Possible theory -- instead of a "realistic" Link for Wii and "cartoon" Link for DS, the two games might just be linked by more than just the name. All speculation, but speculation is fun!

The Capcom and Nintendo Zelda teams working together is very good news. Perhaps they will help each out which means the DS version would be great. A link, linking both games would be great.

Well since 3D Mario Platformers are usually once-come generation games, I doubt we'll see anything substantial on the Mario game until 2010, or late 2009.
The Zelda game they're working on, the same circsumstance, maybe a little sooner.
Well the main IPs for Nintendo are pretty much limited to Mario and Zelda. Metroid is no longer part of the mix, because Retro refuses to make another Metroid game.

The only thing about the "2 teams working together" thing is the Zelda DS team and the Zelda Wii team coming together to work on the Zelda Wii.

Yeah, I amended my statement of that a couple posts down. What I put in my first post wasn't entirely accurate. Guess I could have edited it, but oh well...=).
