Surprised that nobody made this thread. Anyway. Asian Mummies? With king that controls the 5 elements? Didn't Jet Li says he intend to quit acting in action movies?

Plot

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor stars Brendan Fraser reprising his role as explorer Rick O'Connell, along with his son Alex (Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, taking over the character from Rachel Weisz) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). The two parents are now retired, but they must stop the resurrected tyrannical Han, the Dragon Emperor (Jet Li), a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse, and whose army was found by 18-year old Alex. The Emperor now wishes to rebuild his empire, and threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service with his Terracotta Army. Their chances of stopping him are thin, for the Emperor has not only an army of great magnitude, but controls the five elements. The undead Terracotta Army faces another, smaller, raised-from-the-dead army made of the Dragon Emperor's enemies, who died when they were crushed under the Great Wall of China.[4] The emperor on which this fictitious account was based on was Qin Shi Huang and not the first Emperor of the Han Dynasty, Emperor Gaozu of Han.

[edit] Production

In November 2001, director Stephen Sommers, who directed the previous Mummy films, said about directing a third Mummy film, "There's a demand for it, but most of the gang would only be up for it again if we could find a way to make it bigger and better."[5] In May 2004, Sommers expressed his doubts about having the energy to make a third Mummy, though the cast of previous films had expressed interest in returning.[6] In December 2005, a review of a script written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar was about a Chinese mummy (China's first emperor, who wants to take over the world with his army of accursed warriors in 1940. The idea of the emperor and his army is based on the real-life Qin emperor Qin Shi Huang, who was buried amidst thousands of crafted and fired terra cotta soldiers, called the Terracotta Army, believed to date back to 210 BC. [7]

[edit] Cast

In March 2006, actor Oded Fehr said Sommers had told him a third film was in development and being written, with only Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's characters returning for the sequel.[8] The following September, director Joe Johnston was offered the helm by Universal Pictures, who hoped to start filming early in 2007.[9] Later in the month, Weisz expressed interest in reprising her role.[10]

In January 2007, Universal announced that Stephen Sommers, director of the first two Mummy films would not be attached to direct the third film. It was then announced that Universal entered talks with director Rob Cohen to take the helm from Sommers as the director of the third Mummy.[11] Later in the month, the story was revealed to center around Brendan Fraser's and Rachel Weisz's characters, as well as their now grown-up son. Negotiations with the actors were in progress at that time.[12] In February, casting began for the role of Alex O'Connell. In addition, the character of Jonathan, previously portrayed by John Hannah, will return for the sequel.[3] Also in February, director Rob Cohen mentioned that Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh will star in the movie although the official confirmation was not published until May.[13][14]

In April, Fraser re-joined the cast for The Mummy 3,[15] though Weisz did not.[16] The film was shot in Montreal[17] and China. The movie was reported to be titled The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.[18] In April, Luke Ford was cast as Alex O'Connell,[19] and in May, Maria Bello was cast to replace Weisz in the role of Evelyn. Bello reported during an interview that the new "Evy" is different from the original "Evy". "She has the same name, but she's quite a different character," said Bello.[20] At a news conference in Shanghai, Bello told the audience that "Rob created a new Evy ... in the first two Mummy's she was all actiony and lovely, but this Evy might be a little more ... forceful in terms of her martial art skills and shooting skills". It sounds bad... But I'll rent it out at the vid store out of curiosity. I never liked Brendan Fraser or the other movies that much. I'm also not very fond of Jet Li... never knew why.

I'll check it out I like Brendan Fraser and Jet Li so it's a winner for me. Also Jet Li never said he was quitting movies just the big Hong Kong films. Oh yeah and there was something on the discovery channel about mummies discovered in China in relation to the Loulan Kingdom which disappeared 1500 years ago so yep there's Asian mummies alright.
Voyou San
i think it will be a decent movie but i dont find myself going out to the movies to see it, prolly a good rental.
The Evil Dead
I'm hoping to see this one opening night but we'll see. I'm a huge Mummy fan and I think this one should at least be worth the ticket price. Brendan Fraiser is one of my favorite bumbling hero actors and although I'm bitter that Rachel Weisz wouldn't come back as Evie.

I don't really care that Jet Li is in the movie, to be honest. He shouldn't hurt the film, though.
Dragon Brigade
I’m still bummed myself that Weisz isn’t returning, but that’s the way things happen. I definitely plan on seeing this in theaters. My family’s been looking for things to see, so we’ll probably go see this with the cousin’s. Probably not opening night or anything, but we’ll get around to it sometime. Ever since I watched The Mummy for the first time about two years ago (couldn’t see it til I was thirteen), I’ve been a major fan. Wouldn’t want to miss this one considering that. It shouldn’t be too bad, I don’t think. =).

I'll definitely be seeing this. I think it's really creative how they went after a different kind of Mummy. the action scenes looks awesome in the trailer, and hopefully they make the script creative.

i know in 2 cases, Rush Hour 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3, they kind of reused the same jokes and stuff from the first couple movies, and it was like... ok its funny i guess, but not new.

I also think it's kinda cool how his son is grown up in this movie too.

Michelle Yeoh is the reason that makes me interested though. But from what I hear. Its more of skeletons then Mummies this time. Lol.

I actually wasn't planning on seeing this in theatres, but at the rate my mom keeps on "hinting" at her interest in it.....I'm probably going to see it within the first opening week. P:

I'm really disappointed Weisz got replaced by Maria Bello. :\ It totally ruins the in-character feel you get when you see the same characters in a series, and I'm sure it's going to be really odd seeing a Maria Bello-Evie. @__@ I've also been a fan of the Mummy series, although I think it's for the more silly reasons. (Egyptian history and culture interests me, but I highly doubt the series was nearly as accurate as it could've been. .___.) Jet Li should be cool though, and the Terracotta soldiers!! I've always wanted to see them in person. *o* I guess, if they're actually using them in the movie, it'll be the closest I'll get. P;

You guys ain't gonna watch a movie just because Weisz isn't returning ;0

But well one of the lines of the trailer got my attention Lol.

"I KILLED THE SAME MUMMY! TWICE!"

Lol xD
Dragon Brigade
Saw this last night.

Bad:

Maria Bello's portrayal of Evelyn.
Yeti's making fieldgoal signs.
Ending of the movie.
Movie itself seemed rushed (in a sense they gave the feel that, "Yeah, we know how this goes, let's go through the procedure and get it done with".).

Good:

Everybody else's portrayal of their character.
Fight scenes (I thought. Well, 'cept the end battle. That was way too short and didn't seem as "life threatening" as they made it in the other movies.).
Music.

To summarize, I thought it was alright. If they do Mummy 4 like all those rumors say, they need to make sure Rachel Weisz plays Evelyn, otherwise they need to just take that character out (unless they can find someone...other than Maria Bello. >.>.). There was really no chemistry between her Evelyn + Rick O'Connell, and she made Evie sort of...ditzy. =/.

I wouldn't ride it off as a horrible film though. It was a bit hokey in places (the yetis for instance. I mean, just because someone makes a comment on them being abominable snowmen and slightly downplaying their beastliness doesn't mean you make them less of an animal and more of something you'd see in a kid movie like Ice Age or whatever), but I thought it was decent overall. *shrugs*.

So, anybody else see it yet?
Kronik
Neh, it seriously feels like one mummy movie too many. The series alone was really cool and impressive. But this one? xP It sounds like they had Jet Li roled from the start. I mean emporer? Come on, you wouldn't do that if it was anyone else. But it might be cool if there's some bad ass fight scenes. =o
