The Midnight Meat Train is a 2008 horror film based on Clive Barker's 1984 short story of the same name, which can be found in Volume One of Barker's collection Books of Blood. The film follows a photographer who attempts to track down a serial killer dubbed the "Subway Butcher" and discovers more than he bargained for under the city streets.

The film was directed by Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura and stars Bradley Cooper, Roger Bart, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields. The script was adapted by Jeff Buhler, the producer was Tom Rosenberg of Lakeshore Entertainment, and it will be released on August 1, 2008.

The adaptation of this script was a labor of love for long-time Barker fan Jeff Buhler, who worked closely with Barker throughout the process. Their intent was to expand the world presented in the original short story while preserving the underlying mythology and themes presented in this seminal work of horror short fiction. Both Barker and Buhler fought long and hard to retain the original title of the film, which at one point was going to be changed by Lakeshore Entertainment to the more "user-friendly" "Midnight Train."

Producer Joe Daley, a long time friend of Buhler's, brought the two writers together and helped develop the script, along with producers Anthony Diblasi and Jorge Saralugi, for their newly minted horror factory The Midnight Picture Company. As of this entry, The Midnight Picture Company was busy shooting The Book of Blood, the next film adaptation from the anthology of short stories that spawned Midnight Meat Train.

Dragon Brigade
I’m really not that good with horror movies or anything (or thrillers even, but I’ve still watched some of those), but I’m tempted to scrounge about for Books of Blood now. Sounds like the type of thing I like to write about, haha...
The Evil Dead
It's coming out into theaters? I'm surprised to be honest.

I'm all about this. Hearing that the script writer worked closely with Barker instills a bit of hope in me that it'll be faithful to the short story and contain all the Barker goodness possible. I really hope it does well, Clive has a plethora of stories of horror that would be awesome as a movie.

Yeah, I'm relieved by the fact that Barker did get to stick as much of how he had visualized the book into it. I hope it won't suck, but the trailer looks alright. I'm going to give it a try, since I LOVED that story, and the entire Books of Blood, for that matter.

That's the guy that directed Versus. =P

Anyway, I've been excited about this ever since I heard about it at the beginning of summer. There's quite a few horror movies coming out soon that I really want to see (for example, Mirrors), and this one is close to the top.
