http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36436.htmlAlright, this game is shown again at this year's E3, but nobody on this forum payed much attention to it, I guess.
Anyway, I think this could be a very interesting game, as it looks like you're the one behind the evolution of the planet.
The dodgy looks and the grand scale (as it looks), plus flying through galaxy makes this a very interesting game to play.
I have always wanted a game that did something like this and here it is, it is Spore.
I am definitely interested in this game, what are your thoughts?

They had Creature editor everywhere on sale here. The game sounds cool. Nice Featuring of Creature Also The somehow unlimited variety of monsters breeds seems interesting. Evolution and Command and Conquer factor is cool. Also, from what I've heard, You start from a small planet in a small galaxy in a huge universe, which means lots of planets to conquer and stuff.
But yeah... I think such games is takes too much patience and time. Which sorta kill the people to play I suppose.
It is still yet nice to hear "God Hand" games having such improvements after Sims 2.

The game was announced at GDC in 2005. Looks like it will be very intuitive. The scope of the galaxies is massive. I've yet to play with the creature editor, but people have already created a ton of interesting creatures (they even have creatures that resemble the consoles). After this game is done I hope Will Wright creates a real Sim City (Societies is not a real Sim City, but Sim City for Sims fans).

Wut?

As pointed out,
Spore was announced a few years ago. Not sure about around here, but most people I know who know of it have been very interested in it ever since then, and have been eagerly awaiting its release.
Though I am surprised that there hasn't already been a thread for it on here...
Anyway, after watching a few beta videos and such (including
Robin Williams playing Spore, lol), I'm definitely interested. Though I doubt I'll be getting it for my own computer anytime in the next few years. In any case, from what I've heard, a lot of changes have been made since the original ideas, making it a bit less epic, but it still seems pretty awesome. I heard there were plans for a DS release of some sort, as well, actually.
Being a customization whore, I'm sure I'll have a ton of fun with this game, whenever I may get a chance to play it. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I messed up in the first post, was watching various videos of new announced games at the E3 and had all that in my mind and couldn't find a topic about Spore, so this is what happens when many things get mixed up in one's brains.
So yeah, I believe the game was announced in 2005 and won several awards. I didn't pay attention to it in other years, so I don't know if it appeared in other years.
Anyway, what I meant with "nobody paid much attention" was this forum. I never heard anyone really talk about this game and even with this topic, the replies so far have been limited.
Seems this game isn't popular on RPGDreamers. Well, it has been only two days, but I have seen topics get 4 pages in 3 days, so meh =P

Its the evolution process that is interesting DB.
Usually Sim like games have not much chances in evolving into a total different stage of technology. Really new in this aspect.

Yeah, I suppose...I’ve just never really been into these types of games (used to play Sim City/Ant way back in the day, but that's just about the extent of my obsession. Never really got into The Sims.). While I think the new advancing technology is cool and all that, I just don’t really know how interested I am in the game. But, we’ll see. I might just be getting a PS3 sometime in the near future, so I might end up getting this (assuming this is for PS3 and is out when/if I get a PS3. I’m not really sure).

Just to tell everyone the grand scale of this game, because it is seriously astounding that a game can be this big.
As everyone gets from the trailer, you start of a small parasite swimming for food and growing. When you grow bigger, you can add additional parts to your creature and basically make it bigger everytime.
Eventually you'll get a message saying you can go to land and continue your life. On land, you have to find creatures to hang out with and avoid the ones trying to kill you.
You'll have to find creatures of the opposite sex to mate with and basically make the creature smarter.
Once the creature is smart enough, you'll be given your first village and the games switches to the RTS aspect of the game. You'll get some superpowers and basically find other villages to interact with.
If you're an aggressive player and use the creatures aggressively, then this will affect the game for you and your tribe will become an aggressive tribe. Once you reach a point of superiority, you'll go to the next phase.
In the next phase, you'll start a civilization and you'll get your very first city. The game will detect what kind of style you played and will download matching buildings and whatnot to match your choices.
From what I know, once can choose from various styles of powers, such as military, economical and religious.
Once you become advanced enough and conquered the planet, the next stage starts, which to me is the most exciting stage.
This is the space stage, where you will try to conquer other planets. You'll be given loads of options, such as causing two other planets to fight each other, while you watch, start a trade thing with a planet, cause comets to crash into planets to create water, create cities underwater. Heck, if you're powerful enough, you could even destroy planets.
Later you are supposed to be able for interstellar travel and apparently there are over 4 billion planets, which is simply a ridiculous amount.
So yeah, this is basically a sum up. One thing that still confuses me is that the game is apparently a MMO game. Thus you'll be encountering other players. Players that either try to conquer/destroy your planet, or try to join forces with you.
I am unsure how this is going to work and I can already see the pricks making loads of Death Star like weapons and kill bunch of planets. This will probably result in a war, or something.
Anyway, the size of the game is simply enormous and the possibilities seem endless.

Ok so I started a topic for this game and it got closed because of this topic.
My apologizes.
From what I've researched about the game, it shall not be multiplayer. The game will constantly be uploading your content to the internet and downloading other players content to your game. Cities or worlds created by other players will therefore constantly be appearing in the galaxy, giving you a virtually unlimited number of planets to conquer. the planets. however, will not be run by their original players. The computer analyzes how they've played up to that point and when they are downloaded into your world, the computer will take over and continue as it sees fit. This way there will be no Death Star whores. But imagine the joy you'll experience when you find your best friend's planet still in a primitive stage and you can conquer it or, simply destroy it. Nothing you do to any of these planets from other players will affect their game, making this game a single player, but an amazingly interactive one, at that.

I finally managed to play the game, although it is an illegal version. I'll get the legal version as soon as I have the money.
Anyway, just to give a slight insight, on what this game actually is.
It is fairly obvious that this game doesn't have 1 genre, it is a mixture of various kinds of genres.
You start out as the little cell with nothing to do, but eat and fend for yourself. You'll swim in a sea with plenty of food available for you, either veggies, or meat. There are other cells as well, which will either eat you, or swim away from you. You're free to do whatever you want and your play style will affect your cell. My constant fighting and meat eating cell turned out to be a carnivore. Who knew.
You'll keep growing and growing and have plenty of time to add things to your cell, such as weapons, increased swimming speed, better turning etc.
Eventually you'll be too big for the ocean and you'll get on land. You'll be given the choice to add legs and feet and arms and hands and a new world opens up. These two chapters are fairly straight forward.
You start with a pack that will basically breed new species when you got legs.
Now you start interacting with other packs. You can make friends, add them to you pack, or fight them. It is literally a survival thing. It is interesting, as again your playstyle affects your game. I was a predator.
After this the tribe chapter starts and this is where the game starts showing more in-depth. You can now conquer tribes, or befriend tribes. Befriending is the same as in the stage on land, simply mimic the other and score enough points. Not everyone will befriend you. It is either dancing, posing, charming, or singing.
The way you play again affects your game.
In the next stage you have a civilization and more depth is added. You now control vehicles and you'll be either a religious, economical, or military civilization.
Each civilization has their own powers. You're again free to do whatever you want. The computer will interact with you, as you have to do with them. You can make alliances to fight a common enemy, or you can make trade routes.
Various possibilities are ready for you. If you have a trade route, you can eventually buy out that civilization and you will gain their powers and thus you can expand more. The goal is to acquire all civilizations, so use whatever you seem fit. You can simply nuke all bases if you want.
Now, in previews it was said that the space stage was big. Well, I am currently at the space stage and there is loads of stuff to do.
Although there seems to be a invisible wall, limiting your freedom (On the map you can see a white dotted circle, dunno if that is the wall, or not, haven't been there yet).
You can fly to all these stars, talk to the armies of that solar system and do quests for them, open trade routes, start alliances, or even wars.
There seems to be an vast amount of options in space. You'll feel like Star Trek when you fly around in space, along all these stars and planets.
I am not sure if there will be more things, so far I am doing quests and quests and see if I can start more alliances, as I have only 1 now. I might look into starting a war, just for kicks.
Anyway, there are plenty of galaxies open for your visity, conquer, colonize, or just messing around in your space craft using your mind-erase ray, or the famous tractor beam, drop them in water, or from great heights, mess with the flora and fauna, it is all possible.
Great game so far.

Double Post, but hey =P
After spending an hour in space, simply to see what the possibilities are, I can say that this game has virtually no limit.
Where I was talking about that dotted circle earlier, I now realized that it simply shows you your direct solar systems around you, but you can go as far as you want.
Making other solar systems your allies, travelling, trading and whatnot will earn you medals, which will unlock more items for you to use, such as a wormhole key. I can't wait to encounter a black hole and fly through it, now that I have the wormhole key.
There is so much to do in this game, once you reach the space stage.
However, the space stage is challenging, as other solar systems keep growing as well and I found myself in between two big empires and was continuously attacked by them, wasting money on repairing my planet, as well as trying to set up trade routes between other solar systems.
Just the fact that one can travel all across the entire galaxy is baffling and I doubt I will ever reach the other side.
The problem is that there is always something going on near your home planet.
Then you're attacked, then pirates are stealing your spices, then there is another planet having a problem, such as the ecosystem failing. You cannot explore far enough, as you have to keep returning, at least that is my problem so far. Hopefully this problem is solvable.

One of the fun things about the space stage is the tools you can acquire. You will do diffrent tasks through out the game and be able to unlock new stuff, and eventually you will have a large armada at your command, and the ability to use superweapons. If you want to watch a whole planet go kaboom you can, or you can just wipe out the civilizations on that planet with a graviton wave. As you fly around the galexy you will encounter thousands of other races. Some will be in the space age and some will still be in the civilization age, I don't know if I've ever found one in tribal stage. Some of the tools you get... you can really play god with these races I mean if you want to raise them to the space age, or wipe them out you can, I normally just stomp on them if I need their system. But you can communicate with them with things like crop circles and such. Kinda funny actually. When you raise them to the space age yourself its easy to align yourself with them, they will practically worship you. There are other things to do as well such as the ability to teraform planets, as you do alot of teraforming some really cool tools that quickly allow you to level up a planet for nice colonies are unlocked. As well as a few nice weapons...
As you get stuff unlocked your ship can become insanely powerful, I used to just solo without my fleet at the end just because I got tired of going back for them. Its necessary to have a meat shield for some circumstances though, and they come in handy for that.

I mean you can heal them but its still a pain.
I've been playing in the space age for about three weeks now and only have explored about 1 tenth of my galaxy to say the space age is massive is a bit of an understatement. I think it would really be interesting if this game was multiplayer...I mean without the superweapons and stuff. Even Co-op would be interesting. It gets kinda lonely out there but really hard to run out of things to do. The game keeps you on your toes if you don't have well defended and bio-protected colonies it can get annoying to have to go back and fix a colony when it on the other side of the galaxy and your trying to terraform a planet. But at least you earn good stuff doing it. Eventually you will have the proper stuff unlocked that you don't really need to worry about protecting your colonies or worrying about them faceing an eco disaster, but in the beginning it can really be annoying. I got tired of this one civillication trying to extort money out of me so they wouldn't fight me, so I just wiped them out gave them no quarter to, sent them all to their stupid spode. (a common religon in spore) They kept demanding an "unbeliever tax" go figure, it wasn't too smart saying that to someone who could nuke their cities but they weren't too smart...

The fact that flying through the galaxy awards you a powerful item is already a nice challenge.
I heard it is quite the challenge to fly through the galaxy, as you're warp drive will reduce, due to the gravity.
There also seems to be an award that only the most hardcore players will achieve, according to Wright.

That, and the big SecuRom thing going on kinda has me a bit turned off. Along with the fact my computer is about to explode if I add another huge game to it =(
Although what you guys have described makes me think my computer may just have to suck it up, mwuhahaha. Sounds like an amazing game that doesn't get boring too quickly.

The hardcore players are the ones that actually manage to kill the Grox. I'll show you guys a screenshot of the core, the Grox hold about 2000 star systems. I hold about 80, you do the math.
The final enemy you fight in spore is a borg-like enemy called the Grox. Fighting them is like trying to fight the sea with a sand castle. If I ever get my hands on the guys who thought it would be amusing to make an enemy that takes several years to kill I'll strangle him. I want to beat the game dammit. Anyways when you get to the core you get a useful weapon/tool that helps you but the hardest thing about the grox isn't killing them its how numerous they are. I don't think they claim new planets, they can only live on T0 planets, so they don't expand much but I almost fell out of my chair after my mad dash to the galactic core, and after I made out it barely alive I turned on the enemy/ally territory view and my whole map was filled with red. Go figure.
There are two ways to defeat them. One is to kill their cities on each world, and the other is to terraform the planet to T1 temp/atmosphere level. You don't have to plant trees or anything you just have to bring the conditions to T1 and they are killed. Much easer and often more survivable. There are a few other ways to fight them too. I bought about 50 monoliths and seeded the entire core with new allies, which I have to admit is definitely more a pain then a help they almost instantly started squabbling with each other. Now I know how the crew of the enterprise felt, trying to keep each race from killing each other (holding the alpha sector together must have been a headache) . I loaded my save game after I couldn't stand the constant bickering that was taking more time to resolve that I think would have been better spent killing the Grox. Not to mention a couple of them tried to join the Grox or took a Dislike to me and asked for a "unbeliever" tax, resulting in their culling from the herd. I don't respond well to extortion expecially if I was the one who terraformed their homeworld.
There are other ways though. You can actually ally with the Grox yourself, if you do it right. Every other race will hate you though and you will get a "Dancing with the Devil" badge. Its exceptionally hard though.
anyways, anyone else still fighting them?

It was one of the weirdest things about this month's release of Spore. Electronic Arts' manual for the game said you could have multiple accounts for the alien evolution sim but in reality there was just one such account available for each install of the game. Naturally, folks didn't like that. Now EA's producer of the game Lucy Bradshaw has announced that they have indeed caved in and made multiple accounts available for each copy.
Bradshaw states in a post on the official Spore message boards, "We are going to add the ability to have multiple Spore Screen Names for any one Spore Online Account. Here's how this will work: for each copy of Spore that you have purchased, you will be able to have one Spore Online Account, just as it is now. However, we will be adding the ability to have five Spore Screen Names for that account. When you launch Spore, you will be able to log in with any of those Screen Names."
People who already have the game can go to the Spore web site and add new screen names associated with their online account now so there's apparently no need for a patch. These screen names will have separate entries in the online Sporepedia and each will have their own achievements, buddy lists and other features. We wonder why it took an online protest to put in a feature that quite frankly should have been there from the start, but at least it's there now.
SourceI have to say, from what I'm reading of your guys' thoughts, this game sounds really really good...Don't think it'd work on my computer though, unfortunately. =(.

I have put Spore on a halt at the moment. I was going loads of work and then my computer, or Spore crashed and I hadn't saved at the time.
I was aware of terraforming their planets, but hadn't done much, I was considering the Dancing with the Devil badge, so I might go for that.
I also want to fly through the centre of the galaxy, just so that I can get the staff of life.
I have yet to find our solar system. I want to make a colony on Earth, or I can simply destroy Earth, just for fun.
Anyway, soon I'll probably return to the game.
DB, the game is quite fun and it gives you many possibilities. Definitely worth a shot, provided your computer can handle the game.

So the center of the universe... pretty siqq #####.
As it seems, no one else has gotten there yet so I shall give a few tips...
The Grox occupy almost every star system anywhere near the center of the universe. At first I used a "destroy, retreat, destroy, retreat" tactic attempting to pick my way to the center. Realizing how far I had to go and how long it would take made me think there had to be an easier way. And there is.
First, save up a lot of money. (I had 5,000,000-8,000,000 when I did this.)
Second, buy a lot of Colony packs.
Third, unlock Mega bomb and Interstellar Drive 5.
Fourth, use a worm hole or fly as close as you can before encountering the Grox. Now fly as far as you can into their territory without dying. When your health gets to 1000 or so, find a planet and colonize. If you need to destroy the Grox to colonize, just use the Mega Bomb to destroy their colonies quickly. (most of their planets are T0 so they are easy to destroy.) The Grox will keep attacking even once you destroy them but as soon as you place a colony, they back off. When I ran out of colony packs, I just used terrascore tools to up the terrascore to T1 (even just for a moment) then bought a colony pack from them.
In total it took me about an hour to reach the center from the edge of their territory.
I now long for Earth. Or as the game put it "the third rock from Sol". And the annihalation of the grox.
Just a side note. My girlfriend is playing more of a pacifistic style and she's doing missions for the Grox. Right now she's almost got a neutral status with them. If she can actually put a smile on their face, perhaps she can just fly right through them. I am actually really excited to see how that goes down.
Wright did state in a demonstration I watched from 2005 that, being Maxis, everything would have a nonviolent solution. That's just something to think on.

The argument most anti-Spore Christians have is that this promotes evolution, which goes against their beliefs. However, as Will Wright has repeatedly said, he does not state how the creations came to be, just that you start off with an amoeba (or whatever) and it grows.
Militant atheists (obviously again I’m speaking of the ones who are against the game), on the other hand, don’t like that the game doesn’t explain the evolutions enough and whatnot.
...And then you have us gamers (who don’t like the game) not because of the content itself, but because of the DRM. Lol.
Anyway, new expansion is on the way. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound too exciting.

The alien evolution sim game Spore was released just last month but Electronic Arts might be trying to quickly launch an expansion pack for the game before the end of the year. Fan site Hooked on Spore has discovered that both Gamestop and Amazon's web site has listings for such an expansion pack.
While these listings have since been removed, Google still has a cache image of the pages which have a Spore "Cute & Creepy Parts Pack" expansion listed as shipping on Nov. 18 for $19.99. The title suggests that this addition will simply be new parts that you can add to the creature stage in the game and will not have any new game-play. The removal of the listings may be due to a delay in its release or that EA just doesn't want to play its hand yet.
