So I am gonna be leaving for Dark Knight in some time and I'll be going alone because I didnt really feel like calling anybody and I just want to go watch the movie and dont want to reschedule time to accommodate friends.

Some previous times, i have heard from people that they cant or wont go to the theater alone, ever. Then I ask why and they just say that they dont know why, or its a social thing like drinking in a bar, or just depressing and that there is always somebody you can go and if you dont just stay home.

I just dont get that. I watch movies in my room all the time, everybody does, whats the difference from going to the movies. I go to the theater alone all the time, there is nothing wrong with it fro my POV and I actually enjoy it more when i am alone.

On the other hand, i cant stand eating alone in a restaurant.

But how about you, if you want to go to the movies, do you always need to get together with friends to go or can just go at it alone like i do? Do you feel that going to the theater must always be a social group thing?

Another thing I dont and cant do is buy food at the theater. This is for three main reasons: a) Its ****ing expensive, like a 12 oz cup of coke costs almost 2 dollars, and dont get me started on popcorn/nachos/hotdogs; cool.gif I cant eat without the lights on, I must see what I am eating, dont know why, it must be a subconscious fear of getting something there that shouldnt be there; c) it distracts me from the movie, I am a movie nut and must watch everysingle thing going on the screen, which is also why I hate people in the theater, either the kids cry, and kids shouldnt be allowed in a movie theater after 6 pm or th dude laughs and talks on his cellphone or the girl screams or asks her boyfriend whats going on because apparently she is goddamn retarded.

What about you?

Most of the times that I have went to see a movie, I have been with a lot of people, so now I can't go unless someone is with me. I mean, if I had to, I guess I could. But I guess I would feel self-conscience or something.

But the eating alone thing I totally understand. I guess, in general, I don't like being alone in public. That's why we girls always like to go in groups to the restroom, I guess. I have no idea.

Plus, groups supply more conversation and more of a fun environment for me in the most part. Though, during most movies, me and my friends will whisper comments if the movie is stupid, but I do like to watch movies in silence.

But I guess the alone or group is just a reflection on the person. I enjoy watching movies in theaters with people, but at home, I prefer to view them alone so I can scream at the scary parts and makes comments and such. biggrin.gif

Lol, I wouldn't mind going to the cinemas by myself, but I just feel alittle weird and sad going by myself x_x... like I have no friends to hang out with me xD. My friends agree with me, which is why they don't do it - it's not really a social thing, it's just a rather sad feeling to go to the cinemas by yourself =/. I might do it once I get alittle bit older and can't fit my friends around the time I want to watch a certain film.

I have to get at least one friend with me to go to the cinemas, otherwise I resort to d/l or waiting for it to be released on DVD, even then I have to wait for a sale to buy it >_>.

Food at the cinemas cost alot because they pay alot to get the film showing in their cinema and need to make the money back up ;(. I used to buy food there, but usually end up having a food fight with my friends after the film has ended, so really it's a waste, which is why we don't buy the food anymore.

I'm the same as Raz when it comes to watching everything on the screen, especially if it's a film I'm obsessing about. I hate kids or people talking/screaming during the film, it's so annoying. Also, what is the deal with bringing a baby into the cinemas? I went to see James Bond and there was a baby crying for 15 minutes! Why bring a baby to a James Bond film? Where you know there's going to loud crashing action, ya think a baby isn't going to be bothered by that? x_X

This is why I usually end up rewatching films over and over again, because then I can catch anything I missed the first or second time I've watched it. I like to enjoy a film to it's core. x_x

On that note, I hope you enjoy The Dark Knight, Raz . According to my friend, it's EPIC! xD and I can't watch until it releases next week =___=.

I've never, in my life, gone to the theater alone. There's a few reasons why not. For one, I like to talk about the movie after I see it with actual people who are physically there. Second, if the movie sucks, I didn't waste my money, because me and my friends make the ##### funny (hell, in the case of Iron Man, we did it with a good movie too). Plus, there's solace in company. It's one thing to watch a movie by myself in my tiny room because it's size is pretty much made to fit one person. It's another thing when I'm in a huge theater and I am by myself. Freaks me out.

Sometimes, when I watch a movie on the PC, I'll talk to a person watching the same movie online, via tv links or whatever, and it's awesome.

You social whores can go ##### yourselves for all i care.

Now, I would really like to hit home with the bring your kid to the movies #####. I dont understand why people bring their kids to the 9 o clock show. Dont people have anybody in this god forsaken green earth to look at their little #######? The last times I have been to the movies there has been way to many kids there, well maybe Wall-E is excusable but hell, I think i even saw a kid on Saw 4.

I just came back from watching Dark Knight and there was a lady on my side with her like 4 year old kid there. Sure enough the kid actually fell asleep and didnt actually talked or anything while he was awake, possibly waking up to the millions of ##### explosions there were in the movie. But he is an exception in a world with parents who cant keep their ##### kids at home. I pretty much believe that cinemas should really prohibit children to go into movies after a certain time. Sometimes the parents take their children because they have no other choice, they dont bring them to watch the movie, they bring them to annoy the ##### out of everybody. and this should stop. I hate a lot of things in this worl but damn it all to hell do i hate other people's childrens. I think its like Clowns, then children and then Mormons/Jehovah's witnesses. Thats my top three right there.

Also, Dark Knight rocks the ##### out of any movie you have ever seen. Go see it.

Maybe it's just me that's uncomfortable sitting next to two totally unknown people. It is generally a somewhat social thing to do, and if I want to watch movies on my own I'll watch them at home.

I've never been to the cinema alone either and I never would, f**k that. I've only been the cinema once with the boys and there was a group of us. The rest of the time I've always been with ex-girlfriends or my wife.

Also I don't think there's anything wrong with taking your kids to see a film if it's a kids/family film like Wall-E or something but that's to be expected I find mouthy teenagers(and sometimes adults) more annoying but I'd usually tell them to shut up anyway.

I have gone to the theaters on my own, several times. Mainly when I am just shopping, or just looking around town and I walk past the theater and I just look to see what is on and find out that a movie I want to see is on in like 10 minutes. Choice is easily made.

A few things that really bother me when I watch a movie in a theater.

1. People having a conversation

If want to talk, go ##### outside. People talking throughout the movie clearly have no idea where they are. Maybe they do, but then they're selfish. It is commonly known to be silent when the movie is on, so why on earth are you ##### talking!? If you want to talk during a movie, go watch in your ##### house.

2. People kicking your chair

Once can happen, fair enough. But if you're actually kicking someone's chair, get the ##### out the theater. There is no reason to annoy other people in a theater, so don't do it.

3. Children

They do not shut up. Sure, they're younger and don't understand everything, I can understand. But screaming kids in a theater? When I was watching Caspian, there was a kid crying out loud, because he didn't got sweets. ##### OFF!

4. People making noises with their bag of crisps/popcorn/whatever

We all want to have a snack while watching a movie, but there is no need to keep fussing with your bags of food. The bags make enough noise when you're simply picking your food, so no need to make more noise yourself.

5. Mobile phones

Turn down you phone, put it on silent and leave it, or even better, turn it off.

6. People ANSWERING their mobile phone

This is even worse. Yes, people really do that. I really wonder what goes on in their mind when they answer the phone.

Yeah, I want to enjoy a movie, even if it is crap. Hearing noises from all over the place that aren't in the movie piss me off.

I got about 4 calls while watching Dark Knight yesterday from friends and I didnt answer them, just lost the call and sent a message that I was watching a movie. It kinda sucked to type as i missed one explosion i didnt see coming.

Kids should be kept away until they turn 18.

You have an iron will, I have no idea how one enjoys a crappy movie in silence.

Although, a crappy movie turns good when commentary's good. It's always the case. Saw The Strangers, and the ENTIRE AUDIENCE was right there with us making fun of the movie. It was epic.

And then you have annoying 18 year olds. That would change nothing.
Pesmerga
It is not really an iron will, but I payed to watch the movie and so did others, thus I watch it.
If it is truly horrific, I will leave the theater, but I will not ruin it for others, as I know how it annoys me.

I also cannot go to the theater with friends who keep talking. Saying 1, or 2 things is fine, things as "damn, that was awesome", "wow, she's hot", the usual thing. However, I do whisper them, so that others won't hear it.
Heck, I even watch movies in silence at home. It is how I like to watch my movie, bad or not.

Unless when we're drunk and we've seen the movie before. Then it is a whole different story, but this is only when we watch a movie at home =P.

Lols I don't mind watching movies alone at all. I've gone a few times, and I always enjoy striking up conversation with the people next to me if they don't mind a chat or so before the movie starts. (Yes, I love talking to strangers!)

I'm not usually a picky moviegoer. :\ I mean, I'll hate it when my friends are always trying to comment on something or be funny about some scene, but that's about it. If kids are in the theatre, I'll glare at them secretly but will just forget about it easily. Same goes for everything as as well.
Nocinderella
I've never been to the movies alone, nor have I ever wanted too. Just because I've grown up with going to the cinemas as being a social thing I guess. It would just make me feel uncomfortable and I would enjoy the movie less. With movie prices going up, I can't afford to go to somthing that I won't enjoy.

On a side note - I always buy my movie goodies from supermarkets (there's one right below my usual cinema), put them in my bag and go to the movies with that. I remember my friend bought a mini roast chicken into the cinema o.0

ive never gone to the movies alone, i just dont like to. If i am going to the movies, i want to take a friend or two, that way i am sharing the experience with someone and i have someone to talk with or debate about the movie with while we are leaving the place.

I do hate taking a friend who likes to "whisper" during the movie, because i get very quiet during the movie, i hate talking, i hate getting distracted, i just want to watch the show ya know

LOLS, that's amazing. A mini roast chicken. *o* Me and my friends, when we went to see Indiana Jones 4 for a midnight showing, ended up getting lots of chips, snacks, and a huge loaf of bread to eat with brie cheese. It was like a buffet in the very back row.

Personally, I think movie theaters are meant to be patronized by parties more than 1. So going to the movies alone is a no for me. Though I am seriously considering in doing it for the Dark Knight.
Dragon Brigade
I've always gone to a movie with at least one other person. I wouldn't mind going to see a movie alone though. I just have no means of doing so at my current stage in life. >.o.
