Anybody else had to send off their PS3 for service, if so how long did it take to get it back.
Mine quit reading PS3 disks.
luckily mine was still under warranty, if not is was going to cost me $150.
The Evil Dead
I don't think anyone around here has had any issues. Their failure rate is pretty low.

Glad you still have a warrenty. Paying for that would suck ass.

They said it was an issue on the 40gig models, but mine is a 60, which they said was less common

no issues yet *crosses fingers*

News like this makes me nervous about my own PS3. I haven't had any issues either, but I remember someone in Live Chat saying something about dust problems, and now this again. Not even once in my life did I dust out my PS2, so I hope I won't have to do so with my PS3.

When playing Uncharted on my PS3, the game did freeze once. But other than that, everything has been fine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I hope I never have to have my PS3 service, because of dust. I encounter the "dust" problems a number of times on the PS2, so far I have yet to encounter the problem with the PS3. I put a towel over the PS3 while it's not being used and brush the dust away when it collects on the top of the system. I should not have to do this, but considering my experience with the PS2, I'm just going to play it on the safe side and take the extra step to keep my system from being covered in dust.

never thought of the towel idea, thats a smooth move.

Mine never collects that much dust, but after a few days or whatnot you can see a tiny bit on the system.

Just spray your system out through the vents and openings with a can of air every month or so. I do it with all my electronics.

Speaking as the spokesperson as the first person to bust his PS3 (well more like my family busted it), listen to what TED says. Apparently it was dust, overheating, and position (mine was enclosed in an entertainment center) what killed my Blu-ray drive. Though it shouldn't take no more than 2-4 weeks for it to be serviced as far as I'm told. I still need to ship it back to the factory when I get home, I'm currently in Canada right now.
