I was thinking of buying Code Geass Season 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray. But I'm not sure how many episodes they have on each disc. Since a Blu-Ray disc is a bit more than 5 times bigger than a DVD, and a DVD usually contains about 4 episodes, technically they could fit the whole series on one disc. At least in standard DVD resolution. But I'm guessing since the animes are in HD format, it's probably something like 4 episodes per disc anyway?

well i would hope a blu-ray release for anime would mean less discs but i dont see that happening. I think we will still see multiple discs because with more discs, they can raise the price of the anime even more i believe. But thats just my opinion, though i believe they should really use the blu-ray and make it one disc.

here is something i found on a website, this anime is 5 episodes long , so it might give you some idea of the price and how they will do the boxsets on blu-ray? This may just be something off the wall and may not reflect the rest of the anime world on blu-ray, i hope not.

Bandai Visual has announced the high-def debut of the sci-fi anime series, 'Yukikaze,' which will hit Blu-ray this April in a deluxe box set.

Called the 'Top Gun' of anime, the five-part 'Yukikaze' will make its US high-debut as a three-disc Blu-ray box set this April 15.

Tech specs include the entire series spread across two BD-50 dual-layer discs, presented in 1080i/AVC MPEG-4 video (at the original aspect ratio of 1.37:1), along with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround and subtitle options in both the original Japanese and English.

Bonus content contained on the third BD-25 single-layer disc will include the 28-minute featurette "Aircrafts in Yukikaze: From Pilot's Eyes," a 6-minute short film inspired by 'Yukikaze' (both features in 1080i HD). The set will also include a 20-page SAF Fight Manual in full color, and what's being billed as an "exclusively designed box" (no pics were available at press time).

Bandai has set a suggested $79.98 list price for the Blu-ray.

You'll find disc details for 'Yukikaze' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under April 15

Yeah, I just found the Gundam 00 series sold on Blu-Ray and it's apparently a 7 disc series. I guess that means it will still be 4 episodes per disc. I was hoping for the whole series on one disc, but I guess higher quality isn't bad either.

And on amazon, Code Geass R2 was sold for 3,234 Yen ($30). And originally priced at 4,200 Yen ($40).
So if the prices stay that way outside of Japan, it's not that bad. But it seems to vary from series to series. Gundam 00 for example was sold for 3,881 Yen ($36) originally priced at 5,040 Yen ($47).

40 bucks for an anime series on blu-ray would not be bad at all, but wish it was on less discs.

I guess we could just burn them on one disc in HD once Blu-Ray burners become more common and cheap.
The HD avi episodes are usually no more than 500 MB. Which means 50 of them would fit on a Blu-Ray (25 GB).

Which makes me wonder what kind of file sizes the episodes that are on the Blu-Ray discs are? 25 GB divided by 4 episodes is 6,25 GB each...

Don't Japanese DVD's usually have about 1-2 episodes per disc? Correct me if I'm wrong here.
They do it that way for reasons that are all but obvious by now, but I suppose throwing 4 episodes on a blu-ray disc would still be an "improvement".

I have no idea actually. I only saw that Gundam 00 had 7 discs announced: Click

I assumed that it was the full series. Then again, Code Geass only has two volumes on the list, so it could be that Gundam 00 also doesn't have all it's volumes announced yet. In that case it could go up to 13 discs.

Now that I think about it, I do remember that Gundam SEED Destiny had up to 13 discs, so I guess you're right.
It could be like this for Blu-Ray as well. That would make it 12,5 GB per episode on the disc. Obviously the episodes aren't that big, and they could fit more on the discs.

How many episodes are usually on a US anime DVD? About four, right?
But if Gundam 00 really is 7 volumes, then perhaps we can expect the same improvement here, with eight episodes per disc instead of four. I hope so.
