When you want to try out a new game that maybe you aren't sure of (in the scenario of either getting good reviews or bad reviews - in which instance it happens to appeal to you but not the reviewer and thus you're unsure), do you go rent it, wait til someone you know has it and borrow the game, or do you just go straight out and buy it and if you don't like it you just sell it (or hold onto it)?

lately i have been on the buying end of this.. i read reviews, i hopefully play a demo and i watch lots of video and then i just buy.
I hardly ever rent anymore, half the time the game you rent is scratched to hell so you cant play and i dont really care for blockbuster much anymore. I know i could try gamefly but yea..
Borrow, well i will do that sometimes..but really ill just usually buy it and take my chances.

I always always rent or hear from a friend first. I have made the mistake, too many times, of buying a game and only playing it once. I know sometimes it's hard looking for games to rent, too. Especially if the store doesn't carry a lot of video games in general. Also, you never know when it's going to be in or out. If it's a new release you can almost bet you're not going to be walking out of the store with it. If I get lucky I can borrow it from a friend because we all have mostly the same taste in game, or I get to watch them play it. That's really how I got into RPGs.

if a friend i know has it, i'll borrow it [like i did with Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2- glad i never wasted money on those games; just time. :/]
if it's a game i know i can rent, and am skeptical on how good it is- i'll rent it. [wish i'd done that with Assassin's Creed, that game was pathetic.]
i only buy games i'm interested in. so far, i've done good on keeping my games.

If a friend of mine has a game, then I'll ask to borrow the game, however, if not then I'll either buy it or not. I don't rent games, because I know me and I always turn them in late.

I used to rent all my games, because I couldn't afford them back then

FF games are the only games that I straight out buy without trying first, because even if I don't particularly like them (FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus for example) I still want to have them because I've already got every other FF game.
Right now I've made some fellow gamer friends who have games that I can borrow, so I do that instead of renting. Or I just read alot of reviews and buy the game based on those.

I purchase my games. Most of the games I purchase are RPG's and I plan on keeping them. Though, I did rent last month for the first time in years. I ended up renting GTA 4 and MGS 4 instead of paying $60 for each game and beat both games in under a week. If I do buy them, it will be when both titles receive a price reduction.

Most of the time, if I buy a game, I know for a fact that I want it. (Usually, just because it's part of a franchise I'm a fan of.) Otherwise, if it's something I'm unfamiliar with, then I'll look/ask around to find out a bit about it, and then probably rent it. Or, if a friend owns it (or plans to own it a short time after I discover it), then I'll play it while I hang out with them or I'll borrow it from them.

I usually buy them directly... after watching clips on youtube of the gameplay!
