Oh, it's nowhere near that long. If you're referring to Sony's press conference about the 10 year life span, it only meant that the system will have games released for it over a span of 10 years.
A PS2 generally lasts about 4 - 5 years for most people before it starts acting up, one way or another. But this is probably dependent on the amount of use, and if you keep it clean, etc.
Oh...Must have misread that then. But it’s reassuring to know my family’s PS2 has lasted the estimated “live time”. =).

DB you could try asking a a computer tech person to see if there are any parts compatible with the PS2 to replace the motor if that's the only problem. Though like what Hiks said, if it's the lens just get a new one.
Well, the brother that told me that the motor died is a computer tech-ish person (went to college for it, but not sure it did him any good. I mean, he’s built computers and sold them at garage sales and whatever, but...still. >.o.). He’s seemed to be leaning towards getting a new console entirely, so I’m not sure if I can get any of the parts fixed (and if it costs the same as getting a new PS2 or even more, I’d just as soon get the new PS2.). I dunno. It still runs and everything when I turn it on, it’s just that the discs don’t spin and we have to try loads of things to try and get them to (most times doesn’t work).
I’ll give it another whirl later. It may just be a special ed console (works, but takes a while to get it to). My current PS1 is of the same edition (freezes like no other). >.o. I’ll ask my brother about just getting parts replaced and we’ll see if it’s worth getting replacement parts or just getting a new system...
Edit:
@Cloudy: I’m thinking of a PS3 too, but I’d still get a PS2 just because it’d be way too expensive to try getting a 60GB that has backward compatibility...
Yeah. I think I’m just going to go invest in the new PS2...
Thanks for all of the replies. I appreciate it. =).
