Do - Ridiculous hero pose:
There's something kewl about the way spiderman flips and spins and needlessly turns his web slinging into a gymnastic sessions, I love it. Or those poses where the hero rises up and there's some kind of epic scene of destruction behind him/her. It's tackiness done right.
Don't - Ridiculous hero pose...with american flag behind:
Not only will my upchuck reflexes be instantly tested with this HORRIBLY overused cliche load of garbage, but out of pure hate I will instantly write off the film as rubbish. No offence to yanks, but enough of your culture is forced on the world without that sickening sense of American patriotism being rammed down my throat whilst i'm trying to watch a film. But the same goes for any nations flag wavering in the wind behind the hero, it's like the film is saying "Don't YOU wish you were from our nation? We have heroes like this!!!".
Do - Movies not taking themselves seriously:
No matter how serious the flick, humor just has to be injected to loosen up the mood even a fraction, doesn't matter if it is tacky or lame - it doesn't even have to be often.
Don't - Make a film the next big thing purely based on its cast:
Ocean's 11, 12, 13, 109, ocean's small rebel country or whatever it's up to now is a good example of this. Unless the roles of each character fit each actor, then there's no amount of out-of-movie-fame that will save the flick. Most movies like this simply cry out "Look! Lots of Hollywood actors, come watch this so we can get a large revenue injection".
Do - Have an unpredictable, evolving or just epic plot
I can't enjoy a movie if I can pick the bad guy five minutes in, or work out the twist half way through a movie, so on. I crave originality, something I don't expect or just something way way over the top. Movie's need either something to look forward to or something that grabs my attention the whole way too, and I don't just mean endless action, even that gets a little tired.
Don't - Follow the pack
Surely everyone has noticed by now that when a lord of the rings comes out, a trailer load of similar fantasy based films flood the movie screens, or star wars or any other box office smash movie. Any moron with half a brain would surely realize that their movie will most likely be compared to the awesome movie they are trying to rip off, thus unless the movie is as awesome or better, which is highly unlikely, it's going to be ignored for the most part.
That'll do me for now
