First of all, if you're not familiar with the story about Geneon: check here.

That out of the way, I was randomly looking around for Black Lagoon on Amazon.com, and found a bit more than I was looking for. Hungry for details, I did some quick research:

QUOTE (Wikipedia)
In July 2008, anime distributor and licensor Funimation announced that they had acquired the rights to release certain Geneon properties, such as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Black Lagoon.
QUOTE (Wikipedia)
On July 3, 2008, Geneon Entertainment and Funimation Entertainment announced an agreement to distribute select titles in North America. While Geneon Entertainment will still retain the license, Funimation Entertainment will assume exclusive rights to the manufacturing, marketing, sales and distribution of select titles. Black Lagoon was one of several titles involved in the deal.

So, it seems FUNimation is picking up where Geneon left off, at least with a select handful of series.
Now, to answer the question of "Which series?":

Black Lagoon season 1
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage volume 1
Elemental Gelade volume 1

September 2:

September 9:

September 16:

Hellsing Ultimate volumes 1-4
Rozen Maiden series box

And I'm pretty certain there's more than just that, but those are the titles I've found so far. So, apparently, not only are they picking up where Geneon left off, but they're re-releasing the earlier volumes (most as box sets, to save time) of series that Geneon only partially released beforehand.

Looking on Amazon, I got a bit curious about dubs. Amazon fails at being very specific with such details, so I checked out DiscountAnimeDVD, and from what they're saying, the new releases (such as Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage) are indeed being released with both Japanese and English audio, plus English subtitles. (I'm not sure what the deal is with other languages at the moment. I'm only seeing Japanese/English.) I'm still not 100% certain about this, though, so I'll try to keep an eye out for any info regarding the dubs. One way or another, though, the US is getting these releases.

So, whaddya think? Is this good news to anyone? Or does no one really care one way or the other? <.<;

Finally I can watch Shakugan no Shana and finish watching Fate/Stay Night, it's a pain to find subs for the series on the net that doesn't involve Torrent. Also I sure hope the re-release the box-set for Samurai Champloo, I never picked it up when I have the chance.

In anycase, I hope this means more anime is coming to business overseas. To be honest, I really wanna land a VA gig after I graduate from college.

This announcement was absolutely excellent news for me - i'd put the Box Set of Elemental Gelade on pre-order but Geneon's cut-off date for new releases before they went bust was the week before it was due to be shipped so missed out on that. And of course the all important Fate/Stay Night - after months of trawling the net trying to find reasonably priced copies I can now get my hands on the complete set for about half the price they wanted for the original volume 6! You have no idea how much I loved FUNi the day that was announced! lol

Like Soul_Taker_Devil I've also had my eye on Shana for a while now but that might have to wait for a while considering that the Bleach manga collection (vol 1-21) comes out on the 2nd September, Shana on the 9th and Fate/Stay Night on the 16th - I just can't justify that kind of buying all three right now so Shana will have to take the back seat.

They also got the rights to Ergo Proxy - I think the complete box set is due for release at the beginning of October, the same day as the Complete Death Note Manga collection comes out - god this anime/manga habit is getting expensive - so may give that show a look now too.

But of course we can't forget all the ex-ADV titles that FUNi announced that they'd saved the next day...
QUOTE (animenewsnetwork.com)
The North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainment and Japan's ARM Corporation have announced that ARM has transfered the rights to more than 30 of its titles — all previously held by A.D. Vision — to Funimation. Those rights include the home video, broadcast, digital, and merchandising rights in North America and other regions. The complete list of transferred titles is as follows:

009-1
Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy
Air Gear
Air movie

Le Chevalier D'Eon
Magikano
Moeyo Ken TV
Moonlight Mile
Murder Princess
Nerima Daikon Brothers
Pani Poni Dash!
Project Blue Earth SOS
Pumpkin Scissors
Red Garden
Sgt. Keroro 1st & 2nd
Tokyo Majin
UFO Princess Valkyrie
Utawarerumono
Venus Versus Virus
The Wallflower
Welcome to the NHK
Xenosaga

Not as many big titles for me as with the Geneon announcement but good to see that Utawareumono and Welcome to the NHK are going to be able to finish there run and with FUNi's track record with Box Set releases its looking good that i'll finally be able to afford both of these series. And I've heard a lot of good things about Kanon as well, but still not 100% certain about that one - maybe once I've bought everything else I've got my eye on...

Yeah, I'm not familiar with much of that ADV list, but it's nice to see the DMC series getting picked up (even though the series itself wasn't anything amazing). From that list, the main one I'm glad to see listed is Red Garden. Not many people seem to have noticed the series, but it's pretty great.

Complete box set for Ergo Proxy? Thank god. I hope it's relatively cheap (For a box, I mean). The individual DVD prices haven't budged an inch since their releases, still up around $25-30. (Though the first volume's at least available used for around $10-15.) Definitely one of my favorite series.

Utawarerumono. Hell yeah. Never saw the anime version, but I loved the storyline in the game. One of my favorites to date that originated as a PC game, alongside Fate/Stay and Tsukihime. So, this is good news.

As long as Samurai Champloo is still alright, I don't care. Oh wait, GITS was with Geneon weren't they? I vaguely recall the names listed for those two seconds after the ending theme for the anime's I watch finish. Fate/Stay Night has interested me, but I haven't really had time to find it on the net.

You sure follow your anime releases PAL. Have you bought all of those? How are they? More importantly...how do you afford them? Those have to add up after awhile. XD

That was just my wish list for the Geneon/ADV releases - you should see the full list - LOL!
No I seriously overestimated the health of my bank balance so I've only picked up Fate Stay Night and the Bleach manga box set (but that was a bargain so I had to buy that while I still could).
Though I still intend to pick up Shana at some point but Tsubasa season one and xxxHolic series one part one come out soon, not to mention the VC of Basilisk... it looks like i'm going to have to redo my budget biggrin.gif

If you've still not looked into FSN then I really recommend that you do sometime soon. I finished the show last night I can honestly say that there wasn't a single second of that show that I didn't enjoy. Supposedly the game is meant to be better so maybe I'm just too easily pleased but it is easily one of my favourite shows at the moment, if you like a bit of fantasy, with an interesting storyline, plenty of battles and a little of the obligatory fan service (which considering this was based on a H-game was minimal) then give this series a go.

I've heard a couple not-as-nice-as-yours- reviews on the anime haha. I heard with how the story set up that it was easy to read the storyline...a little too easy. Kind of like there was the hero, all of the 'bad guys' were known so it was kind of like a 'kill this person, get stronger, move on to the next...' rinse and repeat. Basically a story that was a little too see through. And despite Saber (I think that's her name) being awesome, the fights were a tad boring with not much dialogue going on in between.

Oddly enough the first time I saw this was in an RP on this board. And suddenly I come to the realization of just how much of a fan Servant Saber is, just by looking at her username. Wow. XD

But that's just what I heard, I'll probably still watch it once I get around to it anyway. I'm still only mid season through on Gundam 00...first season. *sigh* Then there's Code Geass R2.
