Full Version: Don't count the chrono series out yet

I havn't been on any RPG forums in a long time but it astonishes me how many people don't know about the great possibility of a new chrono game. While the whole issue with the Chrono Break rights being abandoned by square has left many in a quandry, don't forget that the name "Chrono Brake" is still reserved. This is common knowledge however and I'm sure most of you know that.

In 2007 it was revealed that Square is very interested in making another chrono game. The issue however is getting together the old chrono team to keep that old "chrono feel". The only difficulty is that most of the team is busy with other games ATM and we will have to wait a little longer.

Also Masato Kato has already returned to SquareEnix in 2006 to do work on the World of Mana series. Also at PLAY! 2006 Mitsuda stated that he would love to compose for a new chrono game.

All this info and more can be found here http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Chrono_Break.html

I for one cannot wait for a new chrono game and hope they get to work on it soon. Chrono Trigger was legendary and Chrono Cross was an excellent sequal (though some may disagree due to a new cast). Although the player doesn't realize it till the end, the CC plot is directly linked to the events in CT and I for one enjoyed it. Radical Dreams, while just a small side story, was very well written and interesting to anyone who might like a good book. For those who don't know about RD, allow me to explain. RD was the prototype that CC was based on. The game was only released in Japan via Satellaview. RD is later stated in CC at Chronopolis that it is in fact more of a side story that takes place in a third, unexplored dimension. That being said RD in the end became more than just a prototype. Eventually DemiForce translated a RD ROM for SNES emulators so everyone can enjoy this side story.

Well I hope this info helps clear up any confusion about the continuation of the series to those who did not know about it. I also hope my small history lesson didn't bore anyone. tongue.gif

Though it may still take some time to happen, I can see a new chrono game on the horizon.

Thanks for the info. Looks like some Chrono fans are still holding their hopes high for a new game in the series. I'm surprised you didn't mention the latest trademark "Chrono Trigger: Echoes of Time". Though most people assume this to be just a subtitle for the DS port.

Anyway, I didn't know that Square have expressed any interest in continuing the series. But getting the old team together seems to be another problem they have with a possible FF7 remake, since everyone is so busy.

I fail at reading.

I wanna see a third game ohmy.gif. And if it's gonna have 40 something characters, they need to have some significance tongue.gif.

And right here is where I should have put the "brake" on reading the rest of this post.

Yeah, the 44 characters in CC wasn't a bad idea but I have to agree with you here. Many of the CC characters had no real significance to the story. In order to get around this flaw I found myself only using the characters that have a direct role like General Viper, Karsh, Zoah, Marcy, and Kid just to name a few. While other characters like Guile and Korcha were feasable with the story many of them had no value at all other than just getting them (example: Turnip, Poshul, and NeoFeo)

But hey, ya live and ya learn so I'm sure they won't make this same mistake again.

Not sure I understand how bringing up the "Chrono Brake" trademark could make you want to not read the rest of the info I presented. It seems like everywhere I go people seem to assume that there are no plans for a sequal. All I am doing is providing info that states Square is indeed interested in making another chrono game and the reasons behind why it is taking so long for them to get started.

I will say that in my opinion the name "Chrono Brake" might not even be what the next game is called. The name was reserved so long ago I would think that if it was intended for a new chrono game they would have started it by now. No one knows the full extent as to why "Chrono Brake" was reserved while "Chrono Break" was abandoned but seeing how this topic was made to discuss the possibility of a new chrono game it seemed appropriate to include it in my first post.

That was my origional assumption as well seeing has how they havn't actually started work on the new chrono game yet due to the chrono team being busy ATM. But hey, ya never know. They may have reserved that name for future use on the next game, but the DS port seems more probable to me.

Why shouldn't we count it out yet? People have been saying there's going to be a new one for almost a decade.

Well if you didn't read my whole post allow me to shorten it to one sentence for you. Square and Masato Kato have recently stated (2007) that they are indeed interested in making a new chrono game once the original team can get back together. Why should anyone count it out when the developers want to make a sequal?

Developers are always interested in making something, whether it be a sequel, a new game, or even a remake.
Heck, Squeenix is denying a FF VII remake in every single way, does that mean they're not interested in making it? No, everyone knows that Square's minds start spinning with the possible sales for a remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Now, onto the topic. A new Chrono game would surely be a nice welcome, because both games were excellent games.
It is just that I fail to believe, whether they have licensed names, they're busy or whatever is going on.
For now, I'll treat this as another dead rumour for people to try and revive the Chrono series.

On the other hand, I don't understand why Squeenix is being so arsey about remakes from fans. I believe we all know that fan remake of Chrono Trigger and that it was canceled, due to Squeenix forcing the law upon them.

I read everything you posted. It's just as much speculation now as it was when Chrono Break was first reserved. I've been hearing people seriously mention there's going to be a brand new spankin' Chrono game for almost a decade, only because so and so from x company or x magazine said something regarding it. We still don't have a new Chrono game and just because it was mentioned by Square that they're " Interested " doesn't mean it's coming anytime soon.

Sorry for being skeptical but I have plenty of reason to be.
Dragon Brigade
Isn’t it always possible that Echoes of Time is a new game for the PS3, in reference to the topic on the Final Fantasy team being reassembled or something for that big project to be announced at the Dsomethingorother event? Some of the people from Chrono Trigger worked in the Final Fantasy games and all, like Nobuo Uematsu and a few others...

Sorry if it’s a relatively stupid statement, but I just thought I’d throw it out there. >.>.
LordChrono
Dragon Brigade makes a very good point. While I think EoT is for the CT DS port it is very possible that they might be starting something new (I doubt it but we can hope).

As for all you skeptics out there, I can see your points as well and I don't blame you. I for one will never lose hope as long as the dev team still has plans in mind. I'm not saying that it will happen, but you can't say it won't. The chrono series being my overall fav series is what drives me to keep my hope.

The bottom line is that it was in 2007 that square was talking about having an interest in another chrono game and until they announce that it won't happen I will continue to keep my head held high.

In that 10 year span they were busy milking the living ##### out FF7. Guess no time for anything else(never mind VP2 and SO3).
LordChrono
One thing got me thinking just now and I would like to share it you guys. The fact that they are remaking CT on the DS could mean more than what meets the eye. The whole concept of that makes me believe they are building up for something big. Who knows, maybe EoT (possible chrono sequal) is just getting started and the CT remake is being released to re pump the chrono name. That being said I will be keeping my eyes peeled for square to announce another chrono game shortly after the release of CT for the DS.

This is my own little theory of course. Yes I know, I dream big. tongue.gif

The answer to that one is simple. It is possible that a fan remake of CT would take away potential buyers of CT remakes that square themselves release.

damn, I hope this does happen, I know I'm late to replying but it's about Chrono series so who cares? And since Square is a third party, hopefully it will come to the 360 if it come at all.

They are releasing the Chrono DS port. It would be awesome if they decided to create a follow up, but if they do I hope they include a more time travel oriented design for it.
