Edit: I'm sure this is good news anyway, even if it's not PoP. xD.

Jordan Mechner created the original Prince of Persia game back in 1989 and it quickly became one of the most popular and acclaimed action titles ever made thanks to some terrific puzzle gameplay and impressive animation. Mechner was involved in the making of the Ubisoft revival Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time but since then he has been working on getting a movie version of Prince of Persia produced.
The movie version is finally going into production for a summer 2009 release but at a San Diego Comic-Con panel on the movie, Mechner revealed that he is working to revive his very first game, Karateka. Gamasutra reports that the revival is indeed in the form of a game with Mechner saying, "It's a project I'm going to be involved in. I can safely say it's not going to be in the way you expect." Karateka was first released in 1984; there's no further word on how this revival will be handled.

Actually, this are better news. We have a fuckload of PoP games out there and SoT even had the first level made with better graphics as a feature, and I didnt like it that much. PoP was cute when it came out and all, and it still sort of is, but that last three PoP games were pretty well made, Godsmack withstanding, so I dont really see a need to remake it.
However, remaking Karateka is interesting. I would prefer it to stay 2D but have HD graphics, like all new 2D games should be.

Oooh my word, I did it again. You're right, it's not the first PoP but rather his first game entirely. D=. I'll edit the topic header. Sorry for false advertisement again. >.<.

I've just looked up this game, having not heard of it before, and two things strike me. Firstly the smooth animation considering the graphical limitations of the system. Secondly, the amazing ending if you try to attack the princess at the end xD
A remake would be interesting, but I don't see him hitting gold twice with this one.

WOW I FEEL OLD. LOL. That was one of the first fighting sims I ever played. It was a fun game too. No 2-D please. Make that ##### 3D with free roaming. No side scrolling. Something EPIC(kinda like Ninja Gaiden but not).

You are the type of people that caused this to be made.

Then again, Rockstar did well with the Warriors, maybe it could work.
