I have nothing to say on the article itself since I have no real knowledge whatsoever with it, but when they say "Pokemon" as a developer, don't they mean GameFreak or whatever? >.>.

Anyway. Thoughts?

QUOTE

Nintendo is finally taking aggressive action against piracy, as the company is suing five Japanese firms over flash cart equipment. The Big N is just one of many plaintiffs in the case, though, with fifty-three others joining in to aid the fight -- just a few companies that you may have heard of, like, oh, Square Enix, Sega, Level-5, Hudson, Pokemon, Capcom, Namco Bandai, SNK Playmore, Koei, and so forth.

While details are scarce, we can imagine a lot of popular carts (like the R4), if not all carts, will be affected. Should Nintendo and friends win the suit, selling and importing such carts will be illegal, meaning that people would have to resort to the black market to get their hands on one.

We understand why Nintendo and other companies would want to fight the good fight against piracy, but we can't help but fret over the impact on our precious homebrew hobby. At any rate, we'll give you more information as this case unfolds.

Resorting to Black Market? LOL

There are a gazilion people in the world and I'm sure at least one person will be able to upload the roms online for people to get it on their flashcards. And I also have to admit that it's so easy to get a flashcard these days and have they ever thought about how ridiculously expensive games are these days, no kid really has that kind of money =/.

It is the famous cycle. Big company complains it is loosing money, due to piracy. Customers resort to piracy, because it is cheaper and the only way for "average Joe" to get all the titles he wants.

Games are too expensive and there are too many consoles fighting with each other. The flash cart is awesome.
My youngest brother has a flash card and he can play all the games he wants to play, simply buy downloading them.
He doesn't care it is illegal, he doesn't even know it is (I think), my parents don't know much about this either, as their technological skills are rather limited. My younger brother set it up for him and he is happy.
He wants to play many games, but often he plays them for a little while and then plays another game, he has my famous "can't stick to one game"-syndrome.
Anyway, my parents are happy, because he can play the games he wants and they don't spend tons of money on him to get him all the game he wants. He is hardly allowed to buy, or be bought games anyway.
I believe he has over 40 games on 1 card, though I am not sure. I simply now that there is a lot of games on the card and good for him.

To Ninty, if you want to prevent people from piracy, go back to your cardridge days. Piracy was difficult (depsite it being around) and nobody really bothered. Besides, back in those days, you might good games =O.

Isn't one of the biggest issues the flash cart on the DS, which uses cartridges?

If and when I ever get a DS for Castlevania goodness I'll be getting a flashcart. SCREW YOU NINTENDO.
