Bit of a slow news day today but we have this:

QUOTE
US, July 30, 2008 - For those thinking it might be just another case of vaporware, the DS version of Ragnarok Online is still in development, and it's reached that magic point where Famitsu was able to give it a huge spread in its latest issue.

Titled Ragnarok Online DS, the PC MMORPG will, as the name suggests, retain online play in the move over to the dual screen. The game supports Wi-Fi Connection cooperative play for up to three players with 50 multi-player dungeons available.

Obviously, this isn't quite the same online play as the PC original. Much of the DS title is actually new, including the original main character, Ares. The storyline is also original. The game will also have new jobs, including a dark knight and a shaman.

The control scheme appears to attempt to replicate the PC version, though, with the stylus used in place of the mouse. You make use of stylus motions to attack your enemies, use items, and perform skills.

Ragnarok Online DS will arrive in Japan via GungHo Works on December 18, just in time for the series' 6th anniversary.

from IGN.

What do you guys think? I never played Ragnarok online. You think itll co nvert to the ds well/was it any good? Diiiscusss.

PS. If anyone can track down the scans go crazy.

A friend wanted me to go play Ragnarok Online with him a while ago, but my computer doesn't fit the requirements (it's a Mac). Dunno if I'll go buy the game or not though for DS, since I think the online version is free anyway. Maybe I'll pick it up cheap, otherwise I doubt it. Haven't quite decided yet whether or not I want to.

Anyway, here is a spectacular screen/scan provided by Joystiq:

The PC version is subscription-based, aside from the trial (and cracked servers), DB.

Anyway, from the bit I've played, RO's a pretty great game. Heard plenty of good things about it. When I saw "Ragnarok is upon us," I somehow expected it to be under Nintendo's Consoles, heh. Just seems to fit. Anyway, RO on DS sounds like a good -- if not great -- idea, if you ask me. The Stylus play seems fitting for a game like RO, and RO just seems like a title that could bring a lot of fun to a handheld. Even if it were just a port of sorts, it'd be nice, but to be hearing that it's got a bunch of new material, including new classes, is even better.

Of course, for those who don't like just level-grinding through a whole game (more or less), this probably won't be something for you. But if that kind of gameplay suits you, I don't foresee any problems. RO offers plenty of variety in characters, and the chibi-esque anime art style is nice eye candy, with a catchy soundtrack to accompany it.

Oh, alright. Dunno why, but I was under the impression that it was free. Guess not though. ^^. Guess that means I don't have a reason to boycott this game because of it "being free on the computer". =P.

I'll still wait until I decide if I want to get it. I have two games for my DS right now, with a lot to catch up on. xD.
Manc
it is p2p as Chalryn said.

i don't doubt it won't work on DS as it is mostly controlled by mouse, the only thing is if the screen is too small!

It is acctually the one mmorpg that I'm really considering paying to play.
as much, that I played the trail-period three times (each time a new account)

Off-topic, but what games out of interest? XD I'm still working of FFTA2, with FFIII, Children of Mana and Heroes of Mana all started and incomplete >_<

What type of battle system does Ragnarok incorperate? It looks to be a good game, and those sprites look cool.

To Mushroom:

FFTA2 finished. wink.gif

Summon Night: Twin Ages
(And although this technically is on GBA, it plays on the DS) Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2
Luminous Arc
Etrian Odyssey
Etrian Odyssey 2
FFIV
FFTA2
Children of Mana
Heroes of Mana
Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head (there are a lot that are upcoming too, so I have to kind of decide carefully which ones I really want). I'd need to go on Amazon or something to boot the ol' memory for the others that are already out though.

And...Nice scan, Bomb. Thanks. ^^

Similar setup to most other MMO's out there. It's basically point-and-click, plus your command shortcuts. Enemies appear on-screen, and will generally attack when you're nearby, though I believe there's an effect that makes lower-level enemies ignore you... I forget, but in any case, you see them on-screen and attack them by clicking on them.

And yes, thanks for the scans, Bomb. Reliable as always. I can't read anything on them, though I'm assuming the character art on the mid-right of the second scan is art of the new Dark Knight and Shaman classes. Looking good, as RO's character art usually does.

Thanks for the heads up. MMORPG's are the one genre I have yet to try so I am not to experienced with the type. Will Ragnarok just be for online play?

I don't think any of it actually has anything to do with being online other than the Wi-Fi connect for the multi-player dungeons / other multiplayer stuff.
Phisix
So what your saying is that it will be a single player game too? Nice.
