Aya of Parasite Eve celebrates 3rd Birthday on PSP

We were all a little disappointed to hear that a title like Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday was being made for mobile phones way back when it was first announced. The third game in one of the best and most original series Squaresoft ever made (well okay Parasite Eve 2 was admittedly horrible) should not have been brought to such a non-traditional gaming machine. And even though it has taken Square Enix a very long time to finally realize this, the company is actually waking up and doing something about it.

News coming from the Square Enix party unveiled that the game will be heading to the PSP. It is currently unknown if the game is still in development for mobile phones or whether that's been scrapped in place of full-on PSP development. What is known, however, is that the title is scheduled for a 2009 release in Japan. A sateside release is still up in the air, but the fact that it's a PSP game now makes chances much better.

Words can't quite express how happy I am to hear about this.

I hate the psp, it get so many games that if it didnt exist, would go for the ps2.

I'll wait for the port. Wait actually, Squenix has not ported any of the games they have released for the psp right?

#####.

The 3rd Birthday was originally planned for mobile phone, so I'm not sure how that would work, to switch off to a full console title. (Not to suggest that I wouldn't want it. I'd welcome a PS2 port. Just not sure how it would work out for the developers and such, and how it would be as a full console title.) PSP suits me just fine, even if I don't have one yet. Anything beats mobile, right? Haha. Though I would rather see a new console PE title (Original remake, please? Yeah, right...), I'll certainly settle for a PSP title.

I'm just glad that Square's finally digging PE out of the pile. We better get this release over here eventually.

Whee...still need a PSP. Thank you SE for unpissing me off. Man I was so mad when they announced it for the phones and JAPAN ONLY, as was a lot of people. I ran one of the largest PE fansites for 2yrs and SE slapped me in the face with that ~_~. As far as the first two games are concerned, especially the second; having wiped out all the ANMC, I wonder what she will be putting up with in the third game. As it stands she is the most powerful human in the world and the only one with her kind of mitochondria.

Having this along with Agito XIII and KH:BBS/Dissidia combo.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Words cannot express how happy I am of what SE is doing for the portable systems. =^.^=

Oh HELL yes.

I suppose this is good news. But meh, I don't have a PSP and never will have one. I want a new Parasite Eve game for a real console, damn it! Still, better than nothing. Surely they'll have PSP emulation at some point. >.>
The Evil Dead
If it doesn't suck, I'm down. I think I only played the first one a bit, but it's been so long that I can't really remember too much about it.

^Short summary, it's about an attack on mankind in the worst possible way. Mitochondria tells mankind to ##### itself and begins to take over the bodies of people they reside in. In a very real sense, they are tired of associating with us "lower species". We are "weak" and "powerfuless". Mitochondria is an organism that lives inside of us that controls growth and age and other things. It has it's own DNA. The antagonist "Eve" was the first to awaken within the body of Melissa Pierce. Aya Brea's mitochondria, though can rebel against her, has chosen not to and infact gives her powers to fight off other mitochondrial creatures. Eve's goal is to give birth to the ultimate being and destroy mankind and have a world of ruling Mitochondria. Not sure if that gives a lot away so Im tagging it.

PE2 is a bit complicating. Aya has lost most of her powers(she is still immune to being taken over by enemy mitochondria), and the new threat ANMC(Artificial Neo-Mitochondrion Creature) is far superior to the mitochondrial creatures in PE1. They were recreated from Aya's mitochondria and she was cloned. Haven't replayed that enough to grasp the understanding of whats going on.

Oh HELL yes.

You are now my favorite member for the rest of the day(I'm sure I'll forget about later if I make it "forever").

Great news. I just wish now that I did not sell my PSP a while back. Stupid extra bills. I will get one againt for this and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Dragon Brigade
I'm getting into the handhelds a bit more now, so this is cool news. I'll definitely need to go pick up a PSP sometime soon. ^^

as long as it is along the lines of the first game (action-rpg type game) as opposed to the horrid RE style shooter of the second game. [the second game was bad.], i'm game.

anybody know the story behind it?
Chalryn
The plot, as Wikipedia puts it at the moment:

QUOTE
Late night on Christmas Eve, Aya and the other members of CTI: New York are called into headquarters in response to an outbreak of attacks in Manhattan by a creature called Twisted. These creatures emerged from a mysterious time contortion, details about which will be revealed later.

Also, apparently, The 3rd Birthday is really a spin-off of Parasite Eve, as opposed to an actual third installment in the storyline of the series. Aya's still the main focus, of course, and she still has "special powers" that cause her to appear younger than she is, though no word on the details of her powers' involvement as of yet.

More scans. Yummy. Not a whole lot revealed by them, though there is the silhouette of that person at the entrance to wonder about... And actually, I'm not really fond of Aya's new look. Maybe it's just these particular scenes... dunno. Looking forward to seeing more, though, still. Thanks again for the scans, Bomb.

If that is true, perhaps if The 3rd Birthday sales well and is popular, SquareEnix might make the proper 3rd Parasite Eve on to the PS3 or Xbox 360. But would a spin off not be with a different character and location? Seeing as the game will revolve around Aya and CTI again.

I don't mind either way as I enjoyed what little I played of Parasite Eve 2. I have never played the first, am I missing out?

Yes. The first Parasite Eve was a great game, though short (you could beat it within 10 hours) but has good replay value with the bonus dungeon that opens up once you complete one playthrough.

combat was more turn-based random encounters, as opposed to the standard "shoot what you can't see" of early Resident Evil/Dino Crisis.

one thing i hated about PE2 was the armor system... whatever you had equipped has a few pockets. you could only use what you had in your pockets.
Phisix
Sounds interesting. I may have to pick up both one day so I can get to grips with the story thus far. PE1 is on the PS1, right?
Chalryn
The spin-off comment was based on what I saw on Wikipedia. The point of it was that it doesn't take place in the same timeline as the first two games.

And yes, both PE and PE2 are PSX/PS1 games.
I enjoyed both of them very much, but the first holds a special place in my heart. ^^ Not even just the battle system, but I considered almost everything in the original better. Just a really great game.
Phisix
And the classics are always the best! Is the story good too? I like to have great and deep storys with my games. Still, looking forward to this new version too, and gives me anther reason to buy a new PSP.
Chalryn
Definitely. Well, IMO. It's all about mitochondria rebelling and taking over the body (and thus, the world, basically), and "Eve" trying to help the mitochondria do so.
Phisix
I watched a few in-game videos of PE on Youtube. It looks good, from a PS1 perspective. The game has the feel of Resident Evil, and the graphics look like Final Fantasy VII. Though the character designer is from Final Fantasy VII I think. The battle system seemed cool enough, as it's random battles and then you have to run around the battle area and wait for that bar to go up until you get your go. It looks interesting so I will pick up a copy in the future. I still have a few PS1 games to dust off so I will get around to it one day.

The one thing about PE2 that stuck out like a large thorn was its incredibly dry BGM selection. I think the only good track was the opening FMV BMG and the BGM with the boss that comes before the final one.

New info, but really, not much.

QUOTE (IGN)
Judging by the latest trailer footage, Square Enix's The 3rd Birthday looked like it might be a Kill Bill simulation. Thankfully, the latest issue of Famitsu came through today with hints at the true nature of the title.

According to project director Hajime Tabata, this PSP Parasite Eve sequel is going to be a true 3D gun action game. Noting that it will differ from Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus, he described it as a "true third person shooter."

Square Enix is working with another development studio on the game, Tabata revealed, without naming names.

Tabata also revealed that wireless play is being considered. He didn't state if this would be 'net based or ad-hoc, although it's worth noting that the aim for Tabata's other directorial project, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, is online-based play.

Finally, Tabata shared a couple of bits about the game's storyline and gameplay systems. These two areas are intertwined thanks to something called "overdrive," an ability that crosses time. Aya, the hero, uses this ability to both look into the mysteries of the game's enemies, the Twisted, and to fight them.

While stopping short of sharing an actual release time frame, Tabata did state that the game's scenario and design are nearing completion.

Going in a 2D gun action direction huh, well that doesn't sound good. Since PE2 played like RE, perhaps it will be like RE4 style shooting. I was hoping for a turn based style.
