Well, I managed to get some cash together and buy another rpg this week via the world wide interweb, and it goes by the name Phantom Brave. its yet to arrive, and frankly I don't really know anything about it outside of the fact it looks cool, its made by NIS and its not grid-based unlike most oif their other s-rpgs. So really I'm just wondering who's played it, what you guys think, how does the game stack up against say Disgaea and NIS' other projects, is the lack of grid a pro or a con, etc etc. ^^

I haven't actually played the game, but I've been tempted to pick it up. I saw it relatively cheap at a used game store, but I didn't buy it because I was going for Champions: Return to Arms. Most of what I've heard about it has been good news, so I'll probably get it sometime.
But yeah. I really now nothing about the game other than it's supposed to be good.

I've only had a quick go but it ended up on the back burner with all the games I've got to play and probably never will. It seemed good though. From what I remember it's quite easy to pick up, but I've heard it gets pretty difficult later. Sorry that isn't much to go on.

It's probably the darkest NIS game I've played so far. It has a pretty sad theme to it. The battle system is a bit odd since summoning your characters is done by possessing items that can enhance/lower the abilities of that characters. I actually had to level up for like 6 hours to beat the final boss since I had not been power leveling through out the game. He was one hard bastard. Still a fun and engaging game with a nice plot.

The attack ring of crap deterred me off from this game and Makai Kingdom. Get Disgaea 2 instead.

XD Well, I read it had an attack ring, and it made me think of BOF:DQ which I really enjoyed so I was kinda interested to check it out. Like LM said too, I hear it has the most serious story of their games. I love the Disgaea humuor, but it'd be nice to see what they can do when they're serious. >-< Disgaea 2 is still way expensive over here, online at least. I've ordered it anyway, so I'll have to live with it if it sucks. Should come tomorrow ^^.
On a sidenote, don't worry about it cloudy, I still have Disgaea, Ys, Suikoden 4 and 5, Xenosaga 2 and more to complete >_< I literally may never finish them all.
Phantom Brave one of my personal favorite Strategy RPG's. It offer a different approach to Strategy RPG's that made it a interesting title. Not to mention it offer a challenge. Sulphur is one hard final boss. Not to mention there's a stronger version of him if you do the side quests. Just a warning, Phantom Brave battle system not for everybody and you need to get use to the fact that your own characters will disappear after a number of turns, so you have a limited number of turns to complete your mission. Also, weapons are one of the most important aspects of the game. A good weapon can make a character very powerful.
